also the larger the spark gap the higher the voltage you can gain in the cap, which makes me wonder about the whole guestimation of a KV by 1/2" spark, and if it applies to this charging caps also... cause in that case we could make a huge spark in a vacuum chamber.....thanks for the thoughts
we where talking about early diodes made from glass jars will water and triangle shaped allaminium strip etc etc then we turn on the tube and here you are with an amazing new diode. well done man

crob, you've piqued my interest, I've been noticing odd stuff happening when caps and sparks get together.
Harpbloke; synchronicity, and yeah I'm still heaps chuffed. Couldn't sleep last night thinking about it, and now can't sleep for all the chuffing..
In principle, there is no voltage limit; the insulation on the wires in the rest of the circuit would be more of a problem.
