@LegitImports21 is there a big difference in performance between the two engines and are all the s2000's either a ap1 or ap1 cause when i was looking at them on autotrader it doesnt say if its a ap1 or ap1 or is there just a standard s2000
@cbeck611 ap1 and ap2 both are "standard s2000s". ap1 is 99-03, ap2 04-08. the ap1 has a 2.0L motor that revs to 9k. the ap2 has a 2.2L motor that revs to 8200k. they lowered the redline for more torque under the curve to improve the powerband since the s2000 is so peaky. the ap2 also has more understeer, the ap1 was prone to snap oversteer and very dangerous at the limit. the ap2 also has a nicer looking front lip kit and new headlights. IMO, ap1> edgier performance. ap2> nicer DD. both cool
@cbeck611 An AP1 is the first generation with the 2.0 litre engine and an AP2 is the second generation with the 2.2 litre engine and updated suspension and updated body styling
if your gonna buy exhaust , buy it for the sound. the exhaust note. the HP gains are negligible unless fitted with headers and tuned. its really for the sound!
to get off the line allot better you need to get into VTEC sooner which means 6000 rpm.. to do this you gotta burn some clutch or a little tire.... personally i prefer tire!! i find a .6 second quicker to 60 about 5.5 seconds
Actually, the car sounds 100% stock. My S2000 w/out any exhaust or intake, sounds identical. The funny thing is, without changing the intake, TB, headers and cat, the exhaust will do absolutely nothing for the car EXCEPT look good. It's DYNO PROVEN, that the S2000 does not respond to bolt-ons. It's been said that with 2000$-5,000$ in bolt-ons, you'll be lucky to pull an extra 10hp. The fuel system is what's holding the S2000 back, and mufflers aren't gonna help that. Stand alone ECU will.
I own a AP2 and it was stock for a while. Even with the resonator removed from the exhaust it still wasn't this loud. I then upgraded to a k&n fpik intake system and the sound of course got louder. I now have a second gen mugen exhaust and to be honest it hurts my ears when I ride with the windows down. I have a hard top and I think if I only had the soft top I would be deaf by now. I watched a jdm exhaust decibel test here on YT and the first gen mugen was tested at 103 decibels.
Yes it is a very enjoyable car. If you want to fast in the straights get a 350z. If you want to go fast all of the time (see: corners) get an S2000. If it isnt fast enough stock then turbo it.
I agree, but although a tune will help you out once you get all the parts. I dynoed 202 bone stock. 207 with CAI, TP, EXHAUST, then with a tune (ballastic e-manage) I dynoed 224whp. add on 4.77s and its a blast :)
Its because Honda's specialty isn't making cars, its making engines. The F20c and F22c are so finely built and tuned from the factory, their is hardly any more potential horses to open up. Thats why it has 125 horsepower / liter, which was the highest ratio ever manufactured for a production car until Ferrari debuted the 458 Italia.
Because it revs high, and has a high lift at the end. It's an expensive engine that goes to the realistic limits of an N/A 4 cylinder production car. Expensive to build that engine, COSTLY head, and you still lack a ton of torque
@Trollensteinowitz Ok.. a 99 Ford Mustang has ~300 ft-lb of torque with a comparable 0-60/quarter mi time. Some diesel engines push well over 1,000 ft-lb of torque yet accelerate slowly (not talking about semi trans).
Torque is not the end-all be-all of acceleration. There are other ways. Honda uses high revving, low torque engines to create their horsepower. Either way works and it's really annoying how trolls shit on small engines when they are just as fast as engines twice their size.
Ferrari Italia 458 have modern technology, and with brilliant engineers produce maximum torque on early 3k rpm to over 8k. This engine produce 562bhp at 4.5 liters what is 124,88 bhp per liter, still not highest. S2000 AP1 with 2.0 liter engine in JDM version produce 250bhp which is 125 per liter, what you said.
F20C and F22C like K20A are one of the best performance 4-bangers ever produced for street cars.
@truelegendinblack yeah thats true but if the evo didnt had the turbo it wouldnt make the +- 140bhp per liter and if you put a turbo on the s2000 the size the evo´s got the s2000 wouldt make way more than 140bhp per liter
You won't get much in the way of extra horsepower, but this exhaust is titanium isn't it? Should be quite a bit lighter than the heavy stock item. You're right though, it barely sounds any more aggresive than stock.
@AP1FORLIFE true! 100% true i send around 2G on bolt on and still did 1/4 miles the same time. But with my new turbo kit, ecu from gready tuned by twin turbo. At 8.5psi im doing 281.3hp and 196tq everthing cost me $11,000.
i fuckin love s2ks

@cbeck611 ap1 was the s2000 thats was made until 2004. After that its the ap2. I think. correct me if im wrong though.

you still have the car? you reccommend it?

You're not losing any significant weight using TITANIUM (it's not even titanium, it's an alloy that contains titanium, not even BASED)
Trollensteinowitz 2 years ago
It's 12 kg lighter than the 24kg heavy OEM exhaust!
Rear mufflers are titanium, the rest is stainless steel.
