jespersschmidt: MLK and Malcolm did not like each other. Their objectives were similar but not the same. They disagreed on their methods, however shortly before he was assassinated, Malcolm had a significant change of heart and was opened more to the peaceful methods advocated by MLK. MLK was Christian and Malcolm was Muslim. The point is that communication was initiated, and had they not been assassinated they might have been able to do more to bring their peoples together.

But they did not dislike each other nor have animosity towards one another. James Cone in his book said that the two had great respect for each other, and were happy to greet one another. They just had opposing ideology.

However, I wouldn't say Malcolm completely accepted that non-violence was the best way to liberate the blacks from oppression. He was just, for the first time being more compromising.
