It is so beautiful and touching. I saw Ida Haendel last night, perform. There was a well-deserved standing ovation. There were many tears in the audience.
This modern vibrato makes me uncomfortable. Baroque vibrato was an ornament, otherwise notes were played smoothly. Modern violinists do the opposite, even when it's known to be stylistically incorrect.
Well, remember this is written by Carl Flesch, a 20th century violinist, based on Handel's famous prayer melody. This is Romantic music based on a Baroque melody; there's no reason to play it with a Baroque style.
Ida Haendel visited Japan in April, 2008 and played Beethoven's violin concerto and Enesco's violin sonata. I went to her 2 concerts in Tokyo. I was impressed with her splendid art and intellectual interpretation. She played Handel's "prayer" in Japan several years ago. She introduced "composed by another Handel" with full of humor. I went to thank her directly after a performance. She said this arrangement was her famous teacher Carl Flesch.
That Haendel melody set very well with that very so sad memorial. I am weeping of course; musically is better played with violin instide of being sung. How many tears....
A moving memorial by a Polish Jewish virtuoso that spent a great deal of her life in Canada. Is there any valid reason for this omission by this music poster in his/her notes? Bravo to Ida for this glorious and monumental performance.

Played beautifully. Could you believe the sheet music is not available for this piece by Handel.
