  • OMG.....I do love this man....I have goose bumpies just listening to him!!!!

  • Just to clarify my previous comment, before it illicits a tirade of abuse from pre pubescent teens, I wasn't implying in any way that Journey are a Metal band. But the essence of Metal comes from the REAL, power rock bands of yore, via the New wave of british heavy metal. anyway I'm not a genre nazi, Its all rock, loud guitars, chunky riffs, hair, beards whatever. Music like this will never die.

  • Its such a shame it doesn't have the overdubbed backing vox on the "Anywaaaaaaaay" bits at the end, But still, how awesome to just listen to pure gold. What I find sad is that many modern Metal heads, cannot see the Awesome power of tunes like this, they seem to look down on it as 'Not heavy enough' or wet and cheesy, oh well their loss. They are perhaps pigeonholing themselves into being the same as indoctrinated Bieber, Gaga fans. Journey, Boston, Zep, Sabbath, AC DC, that's real music!

  • Just listen to that soothing vibrato Steve uses. No one like him

  • 2:56 - 3:13 Wow Just Amazing.

  • its A CAPPELLA not acapella

  • The King.

  • Steve Perry sings his ass off. I don't care what anyone says.

  • that is ridiculously good. really shows how powerful his voice was.

  • @SpeedGodK Best voice i've EVER heard! And he came about number 75 in a magazine poll on greatest singers....who the hell was number 1? Or the other 74? I'd like to hear them beat this vocal performance....personally i don't think it can be done! There's a reason he got called "the Voice"! I could listen to this all day- i wish all his songs had an acapella version- simply awesome!

  • @perrymad8 surely WHICH magazine is important here...

  • @DocSandwiches Actually its worse than i thought- he came in at number 76,not 75. It was in Rollingstones magazine " 100 greatest singers of all time".What do they know......they voted Bjork in at number 60. She's a fair song writer, but singer? Not pitch perfect like Steve Perry thats for sure!Still,at least he was voted number 1 in Classic Rock mag in december 2010 in the top 40 AOR vocalists of all time- much more like it!

  • who is better steve perry or steve winwood?

  • absolutely awsome

  • WOW!! Thanks for posting, this is awesome!!

  • beautiful , there is nothing like this in the World...

  • I am moist now!

  • this is sofar beyond WOW- words cannot express, but his one thing I know- Steve's voice and Journey Harmonies- ARE AWESOME and can never be duplicated with any other group- it was MAGIC!

  • Steve Perry is one of the greatest singers of all time! Great job making this voice-only version of the song!

  • This. Is. F#@king. Awesome.

  • Steve Perry blew away the bands of the late 70's and 80's.Let him enjoy not returning.God blessed him with amazing talent.Memories are the only thing we get to take with us when we go.He will be one of my BEST. THANK YOU STEVE PERRY for following your GOD GIVEN TALENT.

  • LOVE this. Steve's pitch and intonation is absolutely perfect. He's was more a "rock star". This guy had serious musicianship.

  • Gotta love video game stems.

  • BREATHTAKING :)

  • Unbelievable...listen to the voices! (I like it better without instruments.) Perry...copied...NEVER replaced!

  • I love Journey !!!!!!!

  • This is a TREASURE!

Thank you so much for posting this.

To just hear "The Voice" makes the instrumentals almost unnecessary! No one can ever sound like Steve Perry... gifts like his can never be replicated. Just listening to the beautiful voice on 2:56 brought tears to my eyes.

  • Wow! This is a gift.

  • WOW!!! leaves you speechless

  • This is BadAss,

  • OMG

  • I am in just total speechless mode here. Totally amazing. Thank you!!!

  • Wow!

  • I love this! Very interesting, and a good addition to my education of the work of Steve Perry. Thanks so much for stuff like this, it's as close to "the process" as I'll ever get!

  • lets hear that arnel "piñata" sing these songs a la acapella :))

  • @catakyar arnel couldn't touch any of these classic songs....

  • From 2:58 on is just GREAT. What a voice. Thanks for posting htis. Got any more like it?

  • Where did you get this??????????

  • It's simply marvelous! Steve Perry~Tastic!

  • Oh my god. I'm serious about what I'm about to say here...

2:51 where Steve sings that "anywaayyy".... it drove me to tears.

I sit here stunned. I think this emotional response may be due to that as a kid, that fading out singing, that note he held, how he sang it, had always had an impact on me, I loved it and I remember pushing up the volume to near max just to hear every bit of that "anywaaaaayyyyyy!".

  • @wendileona Great example of what that extra vocal double does to get that perfect natural chorus sound. Done right, that is. A technique still used today in the studio by many pop music producers. In songs from Steve Perry to Katy Perry.

  • 1:48 is absolutely glorious. Powerfully ethereal and uplifting, like a hundred voices in one voice singing to the world! Fantastic!

    Thank you for sharing this!

  • That's one hell of a voice!!!!

  • This sound shows just how perfectly pitched and clear Steve's voice was and still is. AMAZING.

  • One of the sweetest voices ever ... and not an autotune anywhere near.

  • WOW.....WOW!!! this is amazin'... "The Voice"...this is the reason he is called this. love, love this!! thanks for posting.

  • Man, if I could sing 1:49-2:04 like that.

  • Man he was unique. Power and debth. Once in a lifetime singer.

  • Thanks for this acapella.

I used it or a Remix.

  • Theeeeee Beeest! PERIOD!!!!!

  • I can't think of words to do justice of his voice and talent. Amazing. I'm speechless.

  • @looperlindsey I know what you mean!!!!!!!! I can't explain it, I am also speechless!!!

  • 1:49-2:03 woooooooow!!! amazing vocals!

  • do you have more songs like this from them?

  • you can hear the music playing in his headphones

  • Thanks for the track !!!! I have a question though. Is Steve Perry singing both octaves or is someone else singing either the high octave or the low octave. Analyzing the audio, I see two distinct voices in some of the sections that sound almost like the same singer, but in the A4 range and in the A5 range simultaneously. Is he singing separate tracks in two octaves, using some kind of effect, or is there another singer with him? I would really like to know because he is hard to emulate.

  • @BigWheelJohn he normaly sings backup on the album but the other members sing to.

  • @BigWheelJohn Greg Rollie, the original keyboard player and sometime vocalist is definately in this mix. If you're familiar, his timber is darker than Steve's and his range is lower.

  • F#4-C6 ... WOW!

  • This is so COOL, thanks for it, great stuff, post more plz.

  • This is just too cool. Thanks for sharing.

  • Arnel Pineda WHO?!

Steve Perry is THE VOICE! Got it?

  • Absolutely amazing! Thanks for the glimpse of what was and what we are missing. They just don't make them like that anymore! Oh how we would LOVE more!

  • Holy SPIT!!! This is awesome. Love it - thanks for posting!

  • Wow, he's really flat at 1:18! I never thought I'd hear such a thing from Perry.

  • Damn! IMO, Perry never quite got the credit he deserved for that absolutely unbelievable voice. I read that he would usually go into the studio and the recording would be made in one take - whether that's true or not ...??? Any way, sung recorded with or without music, he has a phenomenal voice and talent...truly one in a million.

  • @purpleanemone Uhhh, I can assure you SP got plenty O credit. Trust me. Still is, both recognition-wise and royalty-wise. All the remasters - I believe that was his project. Steve knows he's loved. I promise.

  • @GoodMorninGirl - I was referring to the 80's when Journey / Steve Perry seemed to be picked on for at the time writing what many thought were only "cheezy ballads". I don't think anyone really fully realized the magic Journey was and the mind-blowing talent of Steve Perry until after he stepped away. I'm aware the remasters were his project, and of course the 1981 Houston DVD. I notice too that we hear Journey in the Perry days on the radio and not another stand-in singer. Sure, Perry's loved.

  • Was this actually recorded with no music? If so that is amazing. Steve Perry's voice is one in a million!!!

  • @eljay345

It's the actual vocal tracks from the original studio recording.

  • @SomeRockVideos Wow!!! Not many singers now could sing that great without music. I just love Steve Perry.

  • @SomeRockVideos

    How did you get this?

  • Comment removed

  • @eljay345 When they record, they use different tracks to record the instruments and the voices separately. They mix it after wards. I'm sure the band was listening to the music on headphones as they recorded the vocal track.

  • @eljay345 love this!

  • @eljay345 this was most probably recorded with steve singing along to the backing track in his headphones.

what you hear here is just the vocal tracks, just the voices...

  • What a treat! What a voice!
