I met Paul at a MM show in Baltimore and we just geeked out about music and when I mentioned Jaco Pastorius and Paul said "Roy LOVES that guy! We dig Weather Report's music as well"
From that night on I have a HUGE respect for MuteMath as people and musicians!
OK, I like MuteMath and all, but all this drooling over Roy's playing is ridiculous, he's no big deal at all as a bassist., even though both he and the whole band are a zillion times more interesting than their contemporaries. Look up Mick Karn to hear a seriously good fretless in pop/rock.
Roy and Darren are having way too much fun up there... saw these guys in Chicago in 2007, with The Cinematics and Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. That show was absolutely perfect... The openers were great, in their own ways, with SSLYBY exuding a sort of awkward, geeky charm, the Cinematics sounding like an updated Joy Division merged with the Talking Heads, and Mute Math put on the best show I've seen, ever. Well, second best. I saw Muse in march and they were fucking EPIC.
I was talking to Paul after a MM show and we were talking about Jazz groups like "Weather Report"...then we talked about Jaco Pastorius, Paul said "Roy is a huge Jaco fan" I was like "YESSSSSSS!"
I think this song is really great! Nice rhythm changes in the bass-line, lilt cutting with the drums and so on..... it's amazing, very good to see and hear something which is new and good. Grat!
absolutely incredible...one of the most unorthodox bands ever..unbelievably imaginative. i want so badly to meet the band....i know i would gain inspiration just by hearing them speak about their instruments. they are all my heroes for each instrument (i'm a one man band by the way, lol)
there is something about roys playing that is amazing.i mean maybe he doesnt play the fastest slap bass or tap bass but if you listen to the recordings the way he goes from his low tones to his high tones is perfect.he just knows where to play on the neck to convey the right emotion for the song
That poor hi hat....

The guy on keys and singer looks like the actor on FX TV's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I think the characters name is Dennis.

HAHAHAH I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH
it makes me want to giggle. hahahahhaa
The only thing is, sometimes, when he goes from low to high, he goes too high, and it's kind of annoying. But I still love it.
I think everyone in the band is freaking talented, and I love that whole playing the electric guitar with a a mallet hahaha
