@pf126p Ferry Porsche designed the first Volkswagen, not Hitler as myth may suggest, Hitler simply suggested that ferry should design an economical car for the German people and that he would support the project. Ferry had already been considering making an economical car that the common man could afford for some time.
I'm not trying to say Hitler was a nice guy, only defending Mr. Porsche and his brilliant career in the automotive industry
@Madeppymage You may be totally right. It's just that sources actually list Hitler alongside Porsche as co-founder. It doesn't give one the warm fuzzies to see that. And, notice, you won't see many Jews driving them. But, hey, you won't see the G.I. Generation driving Japanese either. I think it's important for the younger generations to at least appreciate where these people are coming from.
@pf126p I don't see you bitching at BMW for making engines for the Luftwaffe or even thinking about the way German society was held hostage by the Nazis. Everyone seems to think that the moment Hitler took over that everyone in Germany became racist murdering monsters, Porsche only did what the leader of his country asked him to, just think of what Hitler would have done had Porsche refused? Put yourself in his shoes.
I don't have enough space in 400 characters to enumerate all the companies, let alone individuals, with skeletons in their closets, particularly those OT. But indeed, there was a number of companies actively trading with Nazi Germany, including but not limited to Ford and IBM. So, good point. There's plenty of guilt to go around.
It's moot anyway because I don't even like BMW... but if I did it would make me think twice. 65 years is not that long ago.
@pf126p Volkswagens aren't evil because Hitler founded their brand, All Porsche did was make a great, durable, economical car that anyone could afford. I don't see evil Nazi mumbo jumbo entering that scenario at all. If Hitler wasn't involved and some other wealthy individual supplied Porsche with support you wouldn't feel the way you do about Volkswagens.

Ironic how they show all this diversity, especially the Jews, when you consider Volkswagen's roots in Nazi Germany.

@Madeppymage You're absolutely right; I wouldn't. Can't argue with that.
