Try parallel parking a Sprinter van with your boss bellowing 'instructions' at you and you can't see the vehicle behind. That's no fun. My own car I can put on a sixpence.
It's a lot to take in for just one manoeuver when learning. It certainly overwhelmed me. Was glad it wasn't in the test. I picked it up better on my own afterwards.
@c7ftube As it is a video recap for the UK where as with 34% of the rest of the world we drive on the left. The first legal reference in Britain to an order for traffic to remain on the left was in 1756, a little before Henery Ford messed things up, by making a Left hand drive car
@cleor11 kerb or curb For the noun designating the edge of a roadway (or the edge of a British pavement/ American sidewalk/ Australian footpath). Curb is the older spelling, and in the UK as well as in the US, it is still the proper spelling for the verb meaning restrain
Good, clear instructions - good job! Maybe you could have emphasised the Blind Spot check at the point of turn, bearing in mind that missing that one is a serious fault. But apart from that, excellent work my friend! 9.9/10!
1st it would not matter too much if you are anywhere say between 35 and 50 degrees, but you need to be consistent as possible. To work out a good reference park the car look straight ahead then imagine where 45 degrees from a point ahead be would be on the middle of the front windscreen maybe it will line with a point on the nearside windscreen wipers this is now your reference for 45 deg's. Now when you reach 45 deg's your reference will be in your line of sight looking straight down the road.
1 On the approach to the target signal you should check your mirrors and signal IF NECESSARY, it is only necessary to signal if it would benefit other road users, if there is no other road users it is NOT NECESSARY
2 Once stopped alongside the target vehicle you should select reverse gear (reverse lights come signalling you are reversing ) You must now cancel your signal before continuing. A SIGNAL LEFT OR RIGHT SHOULD ONLY BE USED WHEN TRAVELLING FORWARD
Maneuver, manoeuvre (also spelled manœuvre or manoeuver from the French) I know my spelling is crap but I have checked on many occasions, and you do change words in the US, but thanks
I think it is enough to reference your car in relation to the kerb. When you see in the left mirror the handle of your car "touching" the kerbit is the time to stop and full steer the opposite side (left in this case).
For continental europeans you should look in the right mirror for the handle of you right car door "touching" the kerb.
1 any reference with a part of your car is going to depend on your car drive a different car this may not work or indeed a different driver (taller/shorter)
2 What happens if you can not see the kerb, because of leaves, in is dark or a drainage channel etc.
@rojas2284 The car's back tires do not turn; only the car's front tires turn. So, you must back into the spot when parallel parking in order to get your back tires as close to the curb as possible. (and that is called parallel parking)
@rojas2284 Sry missed your point as it was flagged incorrectly as spam. You can get into a smaller space by reversing as the back is not manoeuvrable you put it in first then swing the front in.
Great tip the music can work in 2 ways either as a focus point while you are doing the manoeuvre or as a distraction, sadly the original track was banned by YouTube and this was a replacement. I think I will see if I can find something calmer rather than this one that was supposed to focus your attention.
The method employed is to ensure the manoeuvre is performed to a high standard. most experienced drivers, are fine as regards to the control but WOULD NOT PASS ON OBSERVATION. Which part do you think is complicated? there are numerous methods used by instructors, and to me this method is very reliable, I always let pupils who have leaned another method to stick to that method if it is reliable, but normally we find weaknesses and we try this and they prefer it.
ok song defeneltly does not go with this video to be honest i had to turn my volume down cuz all itd remind me of was someone getting killied in the new or something bad
Always nice to here from someone with all technical the answers. Anytime you change direction or come to a complete stop or more than a brief moment it is advisable to use the handbrake in a manual car, any roll in the wrong direction could be potentially dangerous, and would be faulted in you're UK driving test. One of my ex-pupils dad once said a hill start is easy it the ones where you don't know your on a hill are the tricky ones. Basically it is just laziness not to use the parking brake...
This video is so accurate to detail, its becomes completely ambiguous, although correct, replicating the results in this video will require you to be concentrating on the angle of the vehicle instead of the children being crushed under the back left wheel ;)
NO. you must maintain all round observation throughout, with an emphasis looking where you are going through the rear window, briefly checking the references at an appropriate time, KEEPING THE SPEED LOW IS THE KEY.
I wonder how I manage.. My instructor told me nothing.. I got the licence but I parked only a few times with no advice simply by instinct.. Looking for advice here..
hi, i have a test on tuesday but today i struggled with this. my instructor said to do 1 turn left then at point full right lock then 1 and a half left to straighten up. this seems more simple. good luck to all with tests!!!
There are a number of different methods to do this manoeuvre, and the choice of method may depend on thecar, use the one you find most simple and affective, be led by your instructor and please don't follow my method, stick to what works.
However pupils that I have encountered trying a simular methord to the one you describe seem to religh on timing and the consistancy on the final position is not as reliable. I cannot remember the last time a one of my pupils failed on this.
Sorry if you think it's scary the original music had to be changed. As a psychologist the music is intended to work in the subconscious to enhance concentration during the manoeuvre.
referances will depend on on the driver and the car, they are a reference point on your car in relation to the offside rear corner of the target vehicle, so that you can find a consistant point to steer, but you will need to find them for you in your car. but apporimatly point of turn= rear of target vehicle in the middle nearside rear window and close enough to the kerb = rear of targer vehicle just visiable in frount window

Good point simple solution.
1st The most important thing is the the angle is consistent so 35 to 50 would be fine.
2nd Estimate the angle take a point on the front of the car such as windscreen wiper interior mirror, which should be looking straight down the road when you reach 45 degrees, (if you can't get into a reasonable gap you probably need a sharper angle adjust the reference, if you find you always hit the kerb alter the reference for a lesser angle)
