The Byrds put Bob Dylans music on the map - they were the voice of North American baby boomers in the mid 1960's. Too many Boomers sold out their ideals and dreams of peace to EVER appreciate the Byrds,

This clip astonished me when I saw it on TV at the time. The coolest band EVER & apparently stoned (keep your eye on Chris Hillman) in the BBC studio. Thanks for this terrific upload. But it wasn't the Byrds' only UK TV appearance. They flew into the UK in January 1967 & made another Top Of The Pops showing with 'So You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star', which I also saw at the time.
They are a terrible mix of the Beatles, and Bob Dylan and just another crappy commercial artists from the 60's like The Monkees and The Dave Clark Five.
This came out when I was a young man, we were all starved of information about bands back then, I suppose that was part of the attraction. Today if you like a band you can Google them and find out what they had for breakfast, too much information perhaps, however a great song by a wonderful band.
Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll.
Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.
People tell me I'm crazy, but I know I've seen a copy of this where it's live.(or at least with a track that lines up with Roger's mouth is saying at the beginning.)
these guys were ultrahip!! checkout hillman at 1.36!!! cool mid 60's look!! and he had to straighten his hair!! as he had natural corksrew curls!! must have been a bugger when he came to britain then, with all the rain here LOL!!!
i used to respect the byrds so much until i realized that they used soo many of dylan's songs to get the popularity they had. i currently have no respect for them
@philosivas I think that their playing the Dylan songs made Dylan immortal. We all knew they were Dylan songs back then. BAck then it was an interesting bridge between folk and rock.
Yah, I'll neverforget all those years that the British were on top, better still they owned the better half of the top 40. Tommy James & the Shondell were too British. If it wasn't for the Beachboys, Byrds, Monkees, Doors...were The Ohio Express & The Union Gap American?, anyway we had a few Groups that topped the 40 many times over but we didn't have those Beatles..remember April 1964...Beatlemania is right! Thanks4 scoring with the Byrds, I love their Mr. Spaceman.
The American Counteroffensive against the "British Invasion" was certainly based somewhat on Mr. Bob Dylan but even more so on "MoTown" with its Princess/Queen Diana Ross and the Supremes etc. Now let's all give a listen to all the 60's and admit that before 1967 with Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick and Jim Morrison- the American Sound was "always with U.S". Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Mass.
So much talented groups back in the 60s which is sort of making up for the here and now. The 80's was about the closest thing to the overabundance of talent in the 60's. Today it just isn't out there.
I agree with saabturbografx that one word could make a difference and everybody wins, but don't forget too that times have changed since the bryds were flying on the top 40 radio. Anyway may it be that the byrds can always be heard here in vancuver canada as well as on youtube(thanks). They had about 8 top 10 hits back in the sixties and along with the doors, kinks, mindbenders, ohio express, cream, marvin gaye, ccr, the rollingstones, and the beatles they shouldn't be neglected!!
An excellent song. For people on the autism/Asperger's spectrum, the lyrics "I ain't looking for you to feel like me, see like me or be like me" are very deep and meaningful. On behalf of people on the spectrum everywhere, I want to say to Roger, David, et al. a heartfelt THANK YOU!
Yer Crosby - was famous first with the Byrds. They sacked him in the end.If they hadn't there might not have been a Crosby Stills and Nash.Theres anothe youtube vid with him playing with Stills and The Buffalo Springfield at Monterey in 67.
He wanted to record "Triad"--about a threesome and that was too racy for the Byrds...They did record it but it never made it to a Byrds record.... Jefferson Airplane did an awesome version of it on "Crown Of Creation"--and CSNY did it on "Four Way Street"
Yer thats right .I got the book "timeless flight" on the byrds.I got "four way street as well , LP &CD.
Nash had almost the exact same issues with The Hollies so I guess it ws fate that they ended up together - still friends after all this time too. Cheers
Yes that's a shame, considering all the radios ever play are "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Turn Turn Turn"...come on, the Byrds were the American Beatles!
Me being born in 1961, I'm APPALLED at the rudness on You Tube. If I talked that way in the '60's or '70's (When people were POLITE) I would have been sent to reform school, and that's no joke.
@mcd220 Bravo for speaking out on this!! I was born in 1955, and can say rather firmly that these are quite degenerate times we live in: profanity and vulgarity are commonplace wherever you go, and when people get an opportunity to comment anonymously in a public forum, such as YouTube or !Yahoo Answers, the results are both predictable and disappointing.
RIP Sir Jimmy Savile, 1926-2011.

This is the better version, the Byrds' version. This is my favorite Byrds' classic.
8/12/65 was a Thursday, 3 days before the Beatles made the scene at Shea. I love the Byrds and this is a song that works for me!

This blows away anything from the 50's or anything before, and since the Byrds? Not really that much measures up to this.
I also really like The Yardbirds - Im a Man (live version) and the first album from Moby Grape.

He was a member of the New Christy Minstrels before the Byrds.

I reckon, no, I KNOW, this is the best cover of Dylans songs. Fantastic.
