For those saying she's not an opera singer and the Met wouldn't take her seriously, I would beg to differ. I think the Met would take her more seriously than they would Sarah Brightman. Kristin may not be ready (notice I didn't say "not able") to sing the big roles like Tosca or Brunhilde, but she could handle a small, light supporting role. And I'll bet she could handle the Queen of the Night aria quite well.

@smichelle65 what most people don't know is she went to a legitimate program and got her masters in opera performance. So I bet she could definitely do some damage at the medium sized opera realm. But the Met won't take her until she has some roles under her belt, memorizing a 3 hour score is something most people can't do.

kristin was PLANNING to be an opera singer... but obviously DIDN'T since she chose to do broadway. which imo she's more suited for anyway.

She is very talented,however she is not an opera singer. she is a classically trained singer,like Sarah brightman.to be an actual opera singer you have to be able to sing an entire role in an opera. she has never done that. actually,in order for the Met to take you seriously ,you cannot be a Broadway singer, or a pop singer. it is extremely hard to even get an audition at the met,regardless of who you are.

The name of this video is misleading, as though Kristin is a wonderful singer she is not an opera singer. Not taking away from her vocal ability, but you can't be called an opera singer if you don't regularly appear in opera. She's a Broadway soprano in the truest sense.

Anyway she has a very beautiful and strong "operatic" voice, I really loved it!

(I don't like her "pop" voice) , but I'm not surprised of the high notes at all, they're very common in opera light-sopranos singers and very easy singing them just with a vowel. If she were a mezzo or even a dramatic soprano I would be very surprised then!!.

shes not exactly an opera singer, she has classical operatic training, but her voice is way too small and light to actually perform opera, which is why she never had an opera career. in opera we dont use microphones

@FridaysWithBailie haha no, what im saying is, that unlike you, I am an educated classical musician, and anyone who knows anything about opera would agree that shes not an opera singer, and she does not perform opera professionally, shes a theatrical singer and actress. the closest shes come to actual oepra singing is Candide, which is only an operetta. im not saying shes a bad singer, or anything to do with her success, shes just not an opera singer, thats not really debatable

Sorry, I need to clarify. I completely agree that she's not an opera singer. I disagree that her voice is too light and small to perform opera had she chosen that path. I was using Kathleen Battle as an example of a successful opera singer with a very small, light voice.

Well you have to look at it this way... Musicals aren't meant to have the prettiest voices sing them.. Although she has an astounding voice, musicals tend to be more on the comedic side these days so she interprets her most annoying sounds into it so it's funny, yet beautiful.

I just think her operatic voice is more attractive than her pop voice. Her pop voice is very girly and high, maybe if she colored it differently it would be more attractive, but in her broadway singing since it is closer to her speech, it is not very attractive to me (I like darker velvetier tones). Regardless of the color of the voice, she is a fantastic vocalist, no doubt about it.
