My o my the composer brought out but did not rush the music and RESPECTED the space in which the music was performed and made the music's harmony dance with the acoustics!!!!!!!!! BRAVOO
I sang this with combined high school choirs last year. We certainly did not do quite this well, however, I absolutely LOVE Requiem by Faure because of it!! And this is a wonderful performance of it!! :)
Why must there ALWAYS be someone in the audience, either sneezing or coughing in the midst of such a riveting performance?? Either stifle that sneeze or if you're coughing, don't come out to a concert performance!! Stay home where the sick belong.
i want a little more tenor on the pentultimate chord of angus dei,
and the baritone is too broken for this piece, (mor-hor-te) he needs more of a line of sound, not so broken a sound. Especially for the Hostias he sings earlier. Yes they have two different feelings, but it still has to make sense.
and the trumpet at dies irae is wrong, in the temp
Requiem aeternam.
who cares though, these are the best 8 minutes of the requiem. thie decending section of Angus dei has to give chills anyone in the room, and then the sudden swill into absolute silence. The most moving phrase of the entire requiem
I love this particular piece...i got the pleasure of performing Faure Requiem at carnegie hall earlier this year along with the choir i was once apart of
I personally think the reason for them to sing like they're shaken is this: if you read up about the meaning of the song, it's about the day of judgement and the wrath of this day and this is a song for the dead so it's somewhat a scary song so the soloist has to pretend he is acting this song out through his voice. That's why they sing like they're shaking, UNLESS they're like, still nervous or something
It's called vibratto, it's a technique used by many singers of classical music, especially with those pieces composed from the baroque period and onward, i adds a dimension to the music, i believe it's also easier on the voice especially for difficult notes.
Yes when used well its very effective - esspecially to create drama. However, many singers use it as an excuse to not sing difficult notes in tune. Likewise, there is nothing worse than a chorus of old sopranos wobling around in a beautiful passage - many singers are just too scared not to use vibrato because it reveals what their voice is really like...
Right. What people say about someone or something else -especially the things they don't seem to like- is a good indicator of how you view yourself. At least explain why you think it is bullocks. That way people won't put you off like some mindless idiot who's got naught else to do but post mindless comments about beautiful and intelligent music. Cheers m8
Train wreck! This conductor makes no sense. He rushes to the point of loosing both the orchestra and the singers. Watching his hands, I'd have no idea what to do.
3:45 :Free me, O Lord, from eternal death on that frightful day
when the heavens and the earth will be shaken;
when you come to judge the world by fire.

I agree the Faure Requiem is one of the most richly layered pieces, and transformative emotionally. Truly a gift.

its remarkeble how "deep" this music goes, and what emotions it provokes. I had my deepest depressions with Faure's music and I loved it (strange?).

They both suck... The Morris version is also annoying and he uses too much vibrato everywhere...
