  • 3:45 :Free me, O Lord, from eternal death on that frightful day

    when the heavens and the earth will be shaken;

when you come to judge the world by fire.

  • This is the Agnus Dei, not Libera Me...

  • The solo at 3:48 is awesome!

  • yes 3:42

  • Everyone keeps saying "i'm an atheist, but this is awesome", etc. Why even mention being an atheist? It's awesome no matter what you are.

  • I agree the Faure Requiem is one of the most richly layered pieces, and transformative emotionally. Truly a gift.

  • My o my the composer brought out but did not rush the music and RESPECTED the space in which the music was performed and made the music's harmony dance with the acoustics!!!!!!!!! BRAVOO

  • @Correctivemind you mean the conductor not the composer right/

  • its remarkeble how "deep" this music goes, and what emotions it provokes. I had my deepest depressions with Faure's music and I loved it (strange?).

  • I sang this with combined high school choirs last year. We certainly did not do quite this well, however, I absolutely LOVE Requiem by Faure because of it!! And this is a wonderful performance of it!! :)

  • that room has great sound acoustics. i remeber last year when i sang the whole thing! after the concert my feet were on fire!

  • This is truly a great great version!!

  • Holy cow 1:27 is amazing

  • despite being an atheist i feel that this music is some of the most beautiful in the world. i love faure's work

  • food for the soul, makes one want to join a monestary and escape from this rat race we all live in.

  • yes, deliver me and lend me to heaven.

  • the baritone was quite good! Bravi tutti

  • Why must there ALWAYS be someone in the audience, either sneezing or coughing in the midst of such a riveting performance?? Either stifle that sneeze or if you're coughing, don't come out to a concert performance!! Stay home where the sick belong.

Ok, I'm done ranting now... :D

  • we are singing this in choir too ^^

  • diosss...bellos de punta

  • the guy singing lebre me suck

  • I just adore Libera Me. such a wonderful movemement

  • @musiclover83: I agree. It's my favorite!! It's so passionate in such a simple way :)

  • @musiclover83 yes but hte rest of the requiem is needed to fullfil one's musical thirst

  • beautiful!

  • A great part of Agnus Dei is also on here in the beginning. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else got a bit confused, as I did.

  • @t0bian YES! the beginning is so... *magical* is really the only way I can describe it

  • ROW ROW FIGHT DA POWAH

  • WRONG.

  • lol amazing.

  • good to hear this in a cathedral, instead of a concert hall.

  • Beautiful music

  • our school choir did this on Monday night and the crowd were silent for a good 15 seconds after we'd finished.

    magic.

  • yeah its really breathtaking..! Its so...magic!!

  • 1888 i think

  • "Libera me" from hell

  • deliver me

  • deliver me

  • Excellent, Loved it

  • I love this!

I've sung it also, in Holland (I'm in a children's choir) I just love the whole piece!

  • I find pieces like this that go from extremely ugly to beautiful extremely annoying...

  • The soloist is miserable. Is he trying to sound like James Morris, who sucks?

  • They both suck... The Morris version is also annoying and he uses too much vibrato everywhere...

  • i want a little more tenor on the pentultimate chord of angus dei,

and the baritone is too broken for this piece, (mor-hor-te) he needs more of a line of sound, not so broken a sound. Especially for the Hostias he sings earlier. Yes they have two different feelings, but it still has to make sense.

and the trumpet at dies irae is wrong, in the temp

  • in the name of the choir...thanks :) doing this concert was a real pleasure.

  • Beautiful sound--a little shaky on the rhythm I thought.

    Thanks for posting!

  • I played this in high school. It's one of the most beautiful pieces ever written, right up there with Mozart's Requiem. I love it.

  • Requiem aeternam.
  • I love the Faure Requiem. Sang it with the Texas State Honor Choir in the University of Texas in Austin. Beautiful piece. Absolutely moved me.

  • This isn't Libera Me

  • Yeah, you have to skip forward past the end of Agnus Dei to about 3:45.

  • who cares though, these are the best 8 minutes of the requiem. thie decending section of Angus dei has to give chills anyone in the room, and then the sudden swill into absolute silence. The most moving phrase of the entire requiem

  • I love this particular piece...i got the pleasure of performing Faure Requiem at carnegie hall earlier this year along with the choir i was once apart of

  • Was it on May 25th? If so, I was there too!!

  • Just beautiful. Very responsive choir that knows the value of understatement and subtlety.

  • Best rendition i've seen on youtube to date

  • Not enough emotion in the solo for my liking.

  • same for me

  • Fabulous!

  • why does every soloist for this song sound like they are being shaken?

  • I personally think the reason for them to sing like they're shaken is this: if you read up about the meaning of the song, it's about the day of judgement and the wrath of this day and this is a song for the dead so it's somewhat a scary song so the soloist has to pretend he is acting this song out through his voice. That's why they sing like they're shaking, UNLESS they're like, still nervous or something

  • It's called vibratto, it's a technique used by many singers of classical music, especially with those pieces composed from the baroque period and onward, i adds a dimension to the music, i believe it's also easier on the voice especially for difficult notes.

  • Yes when used well its very effective - esspecially to create drama. However, many singers use it as an excuse to not sing difficult notes in tune. Likewise, there is nothing worse than a chorus of old sopranos wobling around in a beautiful passage - many singers are just too scared not to use vibrato because it reveals what their voice is really like...

  • Very nice! Thanks for posting.

  • Allmost perfect. I love Faurè's Requiem, espessialy Libera Me

  • i agree, it's the nicest piece in the whole work

  • Wow... solemnis...

  • Love the choir, they are excellent. The acoustic as well. Actually, I love all of it. AND ofcourse, the composition of Mr Fauré.

How I wish I had been there and that I had heard it live, to let the music and its meaning fill my body, mind and soul...

  • I think this is beautiful. Faure truly understood what his music was about, and how it should affect people who hear it.

  • fucking load of bolluks!!

  • Right. What people say about someone or something else -especially the things they don't seem to like- is a good indicator of how you view yourself. At least explain why you think it is bullocks. That way people won't put you off like some mindless idiot who's got naught else to do but post mindless comments about beautiful and intelligent music. Cheers m8

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Beatiful just beautiful

  • Train wreck! This conductor makes no sense. He rushes to the point of loosing both the orchestra and the singers. Watching his hands, I'd have no idea what to do.

  • precioso!

  • GRAN OBRA

  • the accoustics are magnificent!!!

  • Beautiful, very beautiful, excellent performance of both soloist and choir. Thanks for posting this.
