This is a really sad song for me. A late family friend was a huge Dire Straits fan, and a great keyboardist. He served most of his life in the Australian Army as a Major. He was the nicest guy even for a Major. Unfortunately he was diagnosed with stomach cancer after the old army depot he worked at had found asbestos in the walls and ceilings. Even though he was my fathers best friend, he was like a grandfather to me. I just wish I could of been there to say goodbye.

This is why I love Mark. At 7:06 he knows his part is over IN HIS OWN SONG. And he stops and appreciates the beauty of the orchestra. He knows its one of the few times he will have them as a backing for his music. The nod at 7:43 just sums it up. This man knows and appreciates music. How many modern day artists would you find doing that. I'm sure most would just feel like they deserve to be there, but Mark acts like he is always honoured to be in the presence of other talented musicians. Soul.
