it is interesting to compare this version with the recording in Salzburg also on youtube. Here his grandioso is grandios in Salzburg he missed it: But of course always a very impressive creation and never the same with Arrau. He was a true romantic musician, the last real one....
Muchas gracias por este rarísimo y valioso documento, quizás único, del maestro Arrau interpretando una de las obras cumbres de Liszt y una de mis favoritas.
@Farookhq17 -- i was very fortunate to have been in that concert, and remember it dearly,... i heard the maestro play this sonata not less than 10-15 times in the last years of his life and always MAGIC and WONDER,... i felt i was in the 19th centry hearing Lisz himself playing,...
Very poorly shot video, which one makes you wonder how much editing was involved. Arrau's Liszt Sonata was not his finest Liszt and he is rarely mentioned as a top interpreter of the work (unless you like all of your 600 recordings and think none of them is bad - then you say this is great, Argerich is great, Pogorelich is great, Zimerman is great,a nd lots of pianists no one has ever heard of are great) and so on.
@classicalalways: the sound of this video is bad.Arrau's interpretation and undertanding of this piece is #1 in all,and technically is simply amazing, sound, clarity, articulation, speed, voicings, polyphony,no other pianist comes even close,i heard Arrau play this piece10-15 times at the end of his life when he was in his 80s and it was INCREDIBLE one performace he played the fastest octaves ive heard in my life.YES faster than Argerich and Horowitz, and of course with better sound

Wonderful interpretation, I think the Maestro Arrau was an Extraterrestrial force for the human kind. I still have goosebumps.

I hate that when i wanna see his hands the most, the camera is showing off jesus.
Besides that... i think he IS perfection on the piano, the way he moves and conects with the piano so naturally, is unique.
