Seriously, if you think that Lea's version is better than Barbra's or you have serious problems or you're just a Glee fan that think it is the best thing ever.
people shut up rachel didnt sing the song 2 seem better than barbra she sang it because she likes barbra besides its not that big a deal anyway they are both amazing and talented thats all i have 2 say about it
@Artsydrawer16 Unlucky you, Lea singed this, she was amazing. The original is sure much better. But their purpose isn't to ruin these songs or singing it better! Their purpose is to protect the worth of these legendary songs and amazing voices. Not just you, all the other people who insults Glee because of doing a cover of these songs. Now please shut your mouth up and let us enjoy the music.
@BlahBluh88 I totally agree with you. You know, if I hadn't heard Lea sing this on Glee, I probably would have never listened to it. But, now that I have, I really enjoy both versions of it. :)
In the Broadway version o Funny Girl, she sings His Is The Only Music (Can Make Me Dance). But this song was Fanny Brice's song - that is, Fanny Brice actually sang this song. It was appropriate that Ms. Streisand sang it and with such emotion. Check out Fanny Brices version.
The mistake in the Lea Michele performance was on the part of the musical director. In Funny Girl, the CHARACTER is unable to sing at the beginning of the number because she's overcome with emotion. But when Rachel comes out on stage, says (cutely) that she's going to sing the closing number from Funny Girl, and then be suddenly tearful means she's FAKING the emotion. For that reason, although she is always technically very strong, Lea gives a performance that is ultimately unsatisfying.
@s4odon1 and you have no clue what ur talking about. what u just said made ZERO sense. u can introduce a performance how u want and then bring up emotion on the spot, its called acting. and due to the fact that barbra was in like the middle of a show she already had the emotion coming, where lea wasnt in the middle of a show so its not an equal comparison. and as an actor i have often to perform a dramatic monologue where i have to introduce my piece and jump right into the emotion. its acting.
@Augustchica814 how can you say lol at barbra sining about loveing a man so dearly she'll never let go. You do know that means laugh out loud this is not i repeat NOT a laughing song. I tear up a little myself. I think thats an insult to babra
@lisawithane2x2 Excuse me but it's not an insult actually. I was saying WOW because she's amazing. I just laughed because I always do that and I can keep doing all I want; if you don't like it then ignore me. The only insult here is you spelling her name wrong. *walks away*
@Augustchica814 um he/she didnt spell her name wrong? thats how BARBRA spells her name as you can see from the title of the video and EVERY OTHER video on youtube featuring BARBRA streishand.
I'm sorry Lea Michele. I'll admit Lea did a great job, but if it wasn't for the brilliance, the grace, the voice, and the POWER of Barbra Streisand, well...Lea would have had no one to look up to. :D
It's like Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble. There would be NO Michael Buble without Frank Sinatra. Nothing compares to the original. Yes, there's some nostalga in that opinion, but COME ON...it's BARBRA. Half of the songs Lea sings on Glee Barbra did live!
Such a heart wrenching song especially if you've seen Funny Girl. It's like you feel exactly how she felt. I think the Glee version is the best glee cover so far. You really felt Rachael's pain just like you feel Barbra's.
@witchmusic ahhhhhh! No, i have no other friends that Like Barbra :'( as you see, my friends have no Idea what they're missing! Love her so much! shes amazing!<3
MY GOD I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!! This scene is so passionate and well sung! However, is the audio track slow or is her lip synching just horrible? Any way I love it, and she gets even better in "on a clear day you can see forever."
When Funny Girl was is the theaters, it only cost $1.25 to get in to see it on the big screen and popcorn was .10 in a quart size white paper bag. I took my girlfriend to see it four times. It was worth every penny. Now, if there is something I want to see, I wait for the DVD which is $2.50 to rent for one night and the leading ladies have to kick ass, shot a gun, most likely cuss and get laid and I don't eat popcorn anymore.
Such a tremendous song. I saw this movie six times when it first came out. I was young, but what an effect it had on me. Guess I was so amazed at the talent Barbra had and the performance she gave. I don't think anyone else has matched this level in a movie to this day. I agree with Hubbell 42's comment.
I love every song in this movie! This is one of my all time favorite movies. I own a copy and have probably watched it over 20 times. This lady has it all.........singer, actress, director etc........
God, I love this song - it made me cry when I watched the movie, especially at 1:06 when she really starts to sing. It gives me chills still. This was a satisfying end to the movie too (I don't like these kind of endings usually, except for Funny Girl and Gone with the Wind) I love the emotions she puts into it, it's really spectacular.
wow that is interesting trivia...it think this song and this rendition have always been one of my favourites....particularly because of the emotion she puts into this song.
Whitney has a fabulous voice as did Judy but Babs tops them both for me. She's also the only performance artist in history to win an oscar, emmy, grammy and tony award. A true legend.
Liza won all 4 too. Judy was always more unstable than Babs but boy when she was on track nothing could top her. Just listen to her performance Old Man River from her tv show.I admire Barbra's talent but connect more to Judy's.
I liked the movie for it's music and comedy. the story itself is a little sad but thats what you get with a true story. But I have to say this is my favorite part of the whole thing. She ROCKS this song! I love to hear the passion she puts in it. My favorite part is "what's the difference if I say..."
I love Barbra and grew up with a mother who loved her too.....But.....She is not the greatest singer known to man. That would none other than "The Lady Whitney Houston." She has taken some false steps in recent years but there is no one walking this planet who could touch her in her prime. Not Barbra, Not Linda Ronstadt, Not Dusty Springfield, Aretha Franklin, none of them. Whitney is the latest and the so far greatest. Let the record forever reflect. You all know!
I guess you are a die-hard fan of Barbra's and I applaud you for that. Stick by the entertainer you love best. Because I definitely stand by "Whitney!"
everyone has a favorite. My favorite female singer of all time is Judy Garland, and even if Barbra technically has the better vocal range, I still will always prefer Judy because she gets to me on a special level and her singing has so much heart.
Absolutely. People may have preferences for one singer over another, but, still, there is an objective understanding of "Best" voice, and it's hard to top Streisand's....
