  • The intro is to the first section of the fourth movement of Dvorak's ninth symphony - "from the new world"

  • does anyone know the song they did the intro to?

  • Marcus & Karen Hilton will be the best ballroom couple in the History of Ballroom, they have everything, perfect posture, incredibel technique, awesome partnering and a unbelievable expression of what they are doing!

You can really feel what they are trying to demonstrate........

They love what they do and they are showing it, I LOVE this couple and I'm proud of dancing ballroom, even if I will never be this great!!! :-)

  • I think people need to realise that this is a show piece, not a competitive or technical routine. They are pushing boundaries and experimenting with shapes, musicality and body dynamics. They were such pioneers. Very forward thinking. I think the top pros of today could learn a thing-or-two from this.

  • i like the slight elastic reciol they seem to have in the upper body...sometimes couple keep the upper body so stiff it looks quite uncomfortable and unnatural

  • Comment removed

  • sneaky, confrontational, violent, cat-and-mouse type games... just the sensations a tango should give off. but the technique's too loaded with head tilts and too many clicky and twichy movements that i ain't liking. y/n for me on this one

  • lode al dio del ballo grande unico

  • In my opinion they are fit in Standard more than Latin she looks like princess and he also looks like prince

  • Dance is also interpretation of a music...what may be for one may not be for the other...this is very good!

  • art is love WITHOUT limits and for critics! You know what they say: "unsuccessful artist"

    anyway loved it :)

  • God! I love them. They are by far my favourites ever. I teach dance and they just inspire me so much. It is a risky tango - but isn't that what art is all about - taking risks? The music suits them perfectly and they are definately doing a tango & it certainly tells a story, so maybe it isn't quite so traditional - if you can pull it off like they do - then why the hell not?!!!! Also,do you want people to say "my god, you both dance amazingly together!" or "where do you take lessons?

  • do you all comentators know about who are you talking about?? you are talking about some legends! Not even in 100 years you will not have the wright to judge them. This video is here so that real dance lovers and knowers can enjoy! And here there come some scumbags like you and starting to judge their face, their coreography, etc. When you will be like them (wich is more than impossible) then come back and judge! Dummyes!!

  • Ouch! Well, I know what I'm talking about, and believe that everyone has the right to judge. The music does not suit the rendition, nor would I deem this a tango, seeing no characteristic elements of the dance. The video is here to enjoy and people are giving their opinion, informed or not. No, this couple are hardly legends, but they've produced excellent work. It's interesting that, while they're intelligently discussing their views without rancour, you seem to be more intent on calling names.

  • Hi, Im agree with Brithyll, everyone has the right to have an opinion but we must not forget who is Marcus and Karen Hilton (Probably the best dancers ever). I like very much this couple because they are so natural. I will never dance like them but if I will obtain at least 40% I will be very happy. Anyway I think we must watch this couple and tray to learn from them.

  • i agree..

even for champions like Marcus & Karen this doesn't suit the Tango..

  • I respect Ballroom dance and good dancing in general. This dance is very good and dancers are fantastic. But tell me why do they glue to their faces this artificial smile???

It is so out of style with the music.

  • because you lose points if you don't show expression in your face-even if its a bad one its better than none!

  • What is the music at the beginning of the video? I know it's from a movie but I can't place it. Fantastic for tango!

  • 9. Sinfonie e-Moll op. 95 by Antonín Dvořák, name is: Aus der Neuen Welt

  • I had never seen this show tango before - awesome. Definitely a poke in the eye for all those Argentine tango snobs who disrespect ballroom tango. Karen Hilton has a breath-taking talent.

  • We do not disrespect it, it's beautiful but we are used to another thing. In our view they could dance this same coreography with another matching music and nobody would notice it was meant to be a tango. But if you take a latinamerican coreography, and you choose another music, people will say "look, they are dancing tango with another music", because its steps are too obvious.

  • That's a fair point, but with 2/4 time what else could they dance to ? Paso Doble ?

The more I see of Argentine Tango the more I understand how Ballroom Tango and it's technique developed. In fact if you read the Ballroom technique books and their description of the walks and figures the analysis applies equally to Argentine Tango - the aesthetic of the inside edge of the foot etc so I agree that the character of Argentine Tango is distinctive - I guess what I am trying to say is it's all Tango.

  • It needn't be 2/4, there is a type of tango called "valsecito", 3/4 waltz music danced with tango steps. But feeling a respect for waltz, we do not call it "vals", but "little waltz" as we reckon it is not the same dance. Maybe some people here feel ballroom tango should not have been called "international" or "standard", standard is supposed to be the closest to the original.

  • I always think, rightly or wrongly, of Tango Vals as Viennese Waltz because of the tempo. I guess it's just where our respective frames of reference are as dancers. American Peabody to me is a slow Quickstep !

  • I realize when it is a Tango Vals if it has lyrics -they are pessimistic and in Spanish- otherwise I also feel it is a waltz :) unless it is one I've already heard. In fact, some historians say that, in the beginning, tango dance was something like a valz with improvised steps.

  • That would make such sense. I have seen waltz danced in Croatia, of all places, that looks remarkably like Tango. Much be the culture of the hemispheres migrating and mutating to create a beautiful new dance :)

  • what year is this wss performance from?

  • it shows that they are the best not even mirko can top that.....yet

  • I think Karen has very much to do with it. More skill and much charisma than Alessia

  • Great biography on them!

  • haha it seems everyone has taken this song and used a different part of it for their tango :p

  • well, this is a show dance! They have to do these lifts and drops to earn their keep! :-)

  • Wow.. And I though their tango is so so.. what year was this wss?
