Wonderful Adam! Thanks for the reminder to stay minimal. Since I sold everything 3 years ago I haven't gone back and plan to never deal with stuff again. Adaptability is key. The freedom and endless opportunities are fabulous. The Native American's definition of insanity is hoarding things funny enough :D. I'm sharing this with my network. Keep up the fantastic work buddy!
Great. The only thing I do not agree with is "we are the freest people in the history of mankind" it is not true at all. we are slaves. to money and the monetary system.
@thePhillipO You obviously missed the entire message. Work to do stuff you are passionate about. Freedom as in the fact that we are able to do what we want. We can travel the globe if we want. We can go out and buy massive loads of crap if we want. In freest people in the world we have an opportunity to sell everything we own and leave. We are not tied down to live a life we don't want to live if we choice not to.
Thanks Baker, that was a powerful TED presentation. I feel fortunate to have followed you and Cortney all along while starting my own journey with my family.
We are out collecting experiences. Working to define our passion, and pursue our happiness. These questions he asks are exactly the questions we answered to get here as well...
I like the idea, but it's hard to swallow from this guy. He is a weak public speaker (hands much?), he is functionally illiterate (its LIVES not LIFES), and he looks like he just graduated from college ("what I've learned in five years of being married" Five years? Talk to me when you hit twenty, okay?).
I do agree with his message, but we have been living well below our means since forever (good parents made that happen). I don't need to hear this from a guy profiting form the message.
I didn't hear the integral piece.... The one piece that is the most important one. Stop blaming anyone and anything for your choices. When a person chooses for himself what he wants in his life, he therefore gives up any possibility of blaming anyone else for what he has chosen.
I live like this. I live in a tipi in the woods, I eat fabulously well, I am healthy and happy and sure of myself. I make $400 a month and that is enough. It IS possible. It IS wonderful.
Don't blame consumerism - that's the effect, not the cause.
1. Easy, limitless credit allowing you to go deep into debt: thank the Federal Reserve's artificially low interest rates. Result: everyone needs useless stuff.
2. Skyrocketing home prices of the last decade: thank risk-free government-guaranteed mortgages. Result: everyone needs to own a home.
3. Skyrocketing tuition costs of the last decade: thank government subsidy of student loans. Result: everyone needs a college degree.
Awesome video and I agree with it all. One question, though, and it's one that I have a tough time with. How do you deal with all of the people who have bought into that dream and haven't yet awoken to the truth? They often criticize due to ignorance and it's tough to handle. Thanks!
What an amazing presentation! I've been following your blog since may and I truly love your message, this TED talk just reaffirms that even more... Thanks Adam !

The video was great. The guy was great. I'm left feeling very thoughtful.
Then I read a couple of comments and became disgusted.
I'm going to ditch the comments and go back to the feeling the young man left me with.
He has much more intelligence than the few down there that I wasted my time reading...

@goda81L and all grammar police. Relax a little! The difference between it and it's is not going to cause world starvation or the fall of mankind.
