there are alot of different cartridges with a bullet diameter of 7.62mm, for example the Mosin Nagant uses a 7.62x54R (R is for Russian rimmed i think, correct me if wrong) as well as the dragonov and RPK.
Fun fact... the mosin nagant has be used in almost every war since its invention in 1891, including the wars in Afghanistan and Libya

You can shoot .308 in a 7.62x51 rifle, but not vice-versa ( it often works in a bolt action rifle though). The 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r have a bullet diameter of 311", and the 7.62x51/308 have a bullet diameter of .308", so it's not always exactly 7.62mm. Big difference if you try to exchange projectiles amongst casings.

But you're right that one should avoid to grab just the magazine, the main pressure should always be applied to the gun directly

there are alot of different cartridges with a bullet diameter of 7.62mm, for example the Mosin Nagant uses a 7.62x54R (R is for Russian rimmed i think, correct me if wrong) as well as the dragonov and RPK.
Fun fact... the mosin nagant has be used in almost every war since its invention in 1891, including the wars in Afghanistan and Libya

@chubbs636 - Yeah, that other guy don't know shit. Sounds like a fanboy to me. 7.62x51 and .308 aren't exactly the same though. You can shoot .308 in a 7.62x51 rifle, but not vice-versa ( it often works in a bolt action rifle though). The 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r have a bullet diameter of 311", and the 7.62x51/308 have a bullet diameter of .308", so it's not always exactly 7.62mm. Big difference if you try to exchange projectiles amongst casings.

@spazzypengin I used the g 36 basic version during my military service in Germany, we didn't shoot much full auto but when we did we garbed the rifle singly above the magazine so that you get more pressure directed downward to prevent muzzle climb. But you're right that one should avoid to grab just the magazine, the main pressure should always be applied to the gun directly

@wickedrebel512 its not a license, theres a lot more to it than you think and those so called misdemeanors are never wiped, youre not dealing with local law enforcement dealing with federal ATF etc you also need to live in a state that honors class 3 , and generally speaking to posses something like this is illegal for personal possession but can be a dealer post sample, if youre serious talk with a lawyer set up a trust and do your home work,

And the misdemeanors were for getting caught drinking beer back in highschool, nothing serious or violence related, so I should be okay I guess. And yeah I'm aware I would be dealing with ATF, I knew that already. I live in Texas where we do honor Class 3, I already know of a Class 3 dealer who is only a few miles from my house, met him and bought an AR lower receiver from his booth at a gun show a few weeks back.
