Mmm, manoomin! Getting it the "old way" is fun. Just you and your family sitting in canoes in wild rice fields slowly collecting it. You get tons of spiders on you and bug bites all over. After you've collected what you need, you "parch" it. Then to take the husk off a large amount of rice you dig a big hole in the ground and line it with something. Then you put on some moccasins and "dance" it to get the husk off. After, you find something flatish and toss it on top and the husk will fly off.
