@Rootsmax07 That was not of the colonial era. That was written by an Antillean, from the island of St. Maarten... get your facts straight before you comment ;)
they aren't for there own, Aruba, Curacao and Sint Maarten (Saint Martin) are now a all alone a country inside the Netherlands, and Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius (Saint Eustatius) are now a part of the Netherlands, same as a small province in the Netherlands. And that other 3 islands ACS are still of the Netherlands
@Wolf3582145 You 're wrong too. Aruba, Curaçao, the Netherlands and Sint Maarten are all countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius (Saint Eustatius) are now a part of the Netherlands, but they are not provinces, they are municipalities, like the other islands Dutch Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. But the BES-islands are not part of any dutch province. Maybe the will in the future. See the wikipedia in English or in Dutch.
I HAVE BEEN THERE AND THEY PLAY AND SING ALL THREE ANTHEMS IN KORSOU WHEN THEY WANT TO GET FANCY AND FLY ALL THREE FLAGS: KINGDOM, N.A. AND KORSOU. PREVIOUSLY THE N.A. BORROWED AND USED THE BONAIRE ANTHEM.
On 10-10-2010 Curacao and the Dutch part of st. Martin wil get the status of Souvereign Country within the Kingdom same as Aruba allready has this "status apparte" for many years.
Bonaire, st. Eustatius and Saba will get the status of Seperate City of the Netherlands. This all is decited by the people of the NL Antilles trough referenda.
@kippenbestaan The Netherlands Antilles are allready independent since 1954! they are souvereign countries within the Dutch Kingdom more or less the same as Scotland, Australia, England within the United Kingdom. The NL Antilles people made the choiche to stay within the Kingdom by referendum! so imperialism is not the case here.
Firstly the Netherlands aren't independant but sovereign. A huge difference. Secondly Australia IS independant from the UK. It's monarch may be the same as the monarch of the UK but it opperates as an independant, sovereign country.
You are completely right about the imperialism thing though. The Antilles can't do without the Netherlands. Just look at the coruption!
No this is the National Anthem of the Netherlands Antilles since they are a souvereign country within the kigngdom of the Netherlands as Aruba is also!
The Kingdom excists of 3 souvereign countries: Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles and Aruba at least till 10-10-2010!
The Antilles are a sovereign country. Het Wilhelmus is the anthem of the Kingdom it is a part of and of the Netherlands, another country of the Kingdom. In comparison: Flanders is a region of Belgium and has a regional anthem. The Netherlands Antilles are a country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and has a national anthem.
Well an important part of the marines is in Afghanistan right now
The majority of the navy in the carribean (antidrug units etc (though the European drugs come in at Rotterdam :')))
Also the Venzuelan army outnumbers the Dutch by 600.000 (100.000 + the armed reserves) vs 70.000 (at Stalingrad this was proven a succesfull ratio :P)
Though I think we (Venezuela + Netherlands) would form good partners, the socialistic party is doing a great deal there
Do take into account that Venezuela has alot of old crap dating back from the 60s(!) even. also their navy is complete and utter shit. Venezuela might very well succeed in occupying the islands but they will in no way be able to keep them. it will just be a Falkland war 2.0 starring the Dutch modern and very well trained military vs Chavez' outdated and less trained mob.. However if chavez does try.. I am looking foreward to have Venezuela's oil fields annexed :D
Are u prevering drugs partners or revolutionairy partners? Im Dutch and ill back u 100% if u for a revolution, respect for Shavez. Adios senor Bush.... hahaha :P Best thing i heared ever! U know what its about, Indolence.... its a psychilogical game.
right now there are 3 major dutch fleets located around the antilles, as well as french fleets are nearby and Chili is a allie of the dutch for over 150 years... next to venezuela also is Suriname, there are most of the Dutch Special Forces right now.. so i say, let's get this party started!
curacao moet ook een deel van nederland worden net als bonaire sint maarten is toch maar de helft van een eiland en op aruba komen allemaal dikke amerikanen en joran van de sloot
My reaction to sneyder69's comment about the ABC islands being loyal to the Netherlands.
St.Eustatius (Statia to the locals) referrendum results was to stay part of the "Netherlands Antilles". That's loyalty. Since Curacao and St.Maarten jump ship, statia had no choice but to fall under the netherlands. Statia has no Venezuela next door to seek shelter when the dutch has enough of us.
The ABC Island wil never be a independent country on its own, its to small for that, they just want more depended but not totaly alone........And yes the ABC islands are loyal to the kindom of the Netherlands....and the other Duts antilles going to be a county of the Netherlands, thats mean that they as a part of The Neterlands and EU.
We don't even have one. Yeah maybe some still of the Americans.
But indeed the relation Netherlands vs Chavez is terrible. And thats stupid because many products on the Antilles are from Venezuela. But Aruba already want to be a country on it's own. And Curacao and St Martins also want to be a independant state, but we Dutch like those two islands to much. That while Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba want to join the Netherlands as municipality (and so also the EU).
@sneyder69 You should worry less about Venezuela and more about the islamic immigration, which will turn your country into an islamic republic if you don't stand up to defend Europa.
@Ricardothe1337 Alone we already can, but we need a strong government then so no PVDA, GL, SP these are weak leftists (there against almost any descision of our goverment, wich is right. Even if our goverment would lower taxes for everyone they still would be against. And that is just weak) wich want to spend money in time of a international economic crisis! But anyway we can handle that semi-communist Chavez!
You're Dutch and don't even know the politics of the Netherlands Antilles? They're a nation but it will soon be dissolved because the population has decided so.
Soon this state will disappear. It was a great adventure, but it's better like that since everyone's aspirations will be respected. The Netherlands Antilles are dead, long life to Curaçao and Sint-Maarten (as autonomous states) and long life to Bonaire, Saba, and Sint-Eustasius within the Netherlands!!!!
The Netherlands Antilles will be dissolved and two autonome states will be created (Curacao and St. Maarten) like Aruba is already, the other 3 will become special municipality of the Netherlands.
But, as well as Saba, Bonaire and St. Eustasius of course, the three islands will remain part of the Kingdom of The Netherlands.

Yes, its the same idea, several autonomous countries within one kingdome.
Only the countries in the Dutch case are not as separate as in the UK/Australia/Canada case. The Dutch government will take (as they have always done) of the defence, foreign affairs and will play a significant roll in the economic development.
An other major difference is that Canada and Australia have their own passport, whereas people on the dutch caribean islands have the same Dutch passport as people in The Netherlands, this has always been the case.
This is, and most people forget this, one major advantage, because having a Dutch passport means the inhabitants of the islands are part of the Schengen Treaty and can travel to the EU/USA (and to most parts of the world in fact) without visa.
That's an inaccurate comparison. It's not like the UK and Australia and Canada, it's actually like England, Scotland, Wales, and Norther Ireland in the United Kingdom. Aruba, Curacao and Sint Maarten are not gaining independence like those of the Commonwealth. They will be nations of their own under the Dutch Kingdom like England, Scotland, Wales, and N. Ireland are in the UK(atleast in theory) It's being postponed though, so we'll see what happens. No one's getting their independence though.
I'm not saying the islands will be like Canada and Australia. I'm pointing out the differences between the two constructions.
The comparison with the UK is inaccurate as well, as the four countries in the UK have similar cultures. In the Dutch situation the cultural differences are much larger. That's why I stuck to the example of Canada/Australia Ricardothe1337 gave.
My comparison isn't inaccurate at all. We're talking about political structure, not cultural homogeny. There's no doubt that we have completely different cultures. Our Dutch Antillean culture tends to be more conservative and religious, closer to the U.S. and Caribbean, rather than the liberal, socialist culture of Holland and Europe. That doesn't mean that my comparison is inaccurate. As far as polical structure goes, mine is accurate, and your's inaccurate.
I accidentally wrote those comments above (guitar320) under my brother's user name, so please respond to this user name if you have something else to say. The most accurate description, culturally speaking, would be if Bermuda, BVI, Turks & Caicos, Montserrat, Anguilla, and Cayman Islands all received equal status to N. Ireland, England, Scotland, & Wales. That's not the case tho, so the Great Britain analogy is most accurate. We are now considered equal in status to the Dutch unlike France & UK
The Netherlands Antilles have a national football team, therefore they are a nation. And as long as they retain this national football team, they will remain a living nation, with living national pride.
Don't worry, we're not going anywhere. We're a bunch of islands and we NEED Holland for protection from the Venezuelans who want to annex us. We need your aid, military, and foreign relations. We share the language, the heritage, and the citizenship. We're not going anywhere, and it's a different time than that of Indonesia and the 1940's - we're only 6 islands with 200,000 people - not 15,000 islands with millions of people. Aruba only threatened independence because it was jealous of Curacao.
That's easy for you to say, you're just a spectator sitting in Great Britain. That's your interpretation. Chavez is the type of guy who would try to annex the islands, and he could easily do it given their close proximity. He's not known for his respect of rights and democracy, so you really can't defend him saying that they were empty threats. The fact that he said publicly and desires it concerns us, and we do take any verbal threat seriously, it would be foolish not to.
