I don't think the Swiss are going to cooperate very long, if at all with this deal. Like it or not, a huge portion of thier economy could be effected, as well as thier neighbors.
End the Fed, get us back on the Gold Standard stop printing money out of thin air. Maybe then more people will be willing to pay thier fair share. If this deal does continue, other countries (probably those not as friendly to the US) will provide the same service.
Or we could solve it quite easily with "Fair Tax".
I haven't keep up on this issue over the last 7 mos, so you might be right. I do know at last count there were 1500 accounts turned over. And the US is not the only country that stashes cash and Switzerland isn't the only country to do it in. Those who refuse to pay taxes will always find a way to dump it on the middle class.
As for gold backing the dollar, if it was such a great idea it would be done by now. Hell kid, we're in a depression here.
@Boomer1949 LOL, Thanks for calling me kid...sounds good. I'm actually a "Boomer" myself; right at the tail end, born in 64. Anyway, we take inflation as a matter of course, but it's a result of the US departing from the gold standard. Every time the Govt prints $, willy nilly, it lowers the value of our savings...wages lag, and both mom and dad have to work.
@Boomer1949 Just remember, the richest people in the word, by far, are the ones controlling the federal reserve...a cadre of international bankers. Sure, prices fluctuate, but c'mon...what was the min wage when you were starting out? A dollar now is worth .04 of the worth it had in 1913...when the fed was started. They get the 1st use of those trillions they dump into the market...imediately our savings are devalued...an illegal tax.
A very rich group came up with this idea of "Fair Tax" because it reduces their burden and shifts it to the middle class and poor. Start thinking like your rich and you'll see how this would work out well for you.
I think what is more unfair is that in the US like in many other countries, tax payers do not have a way to greatly influence how their taxes will be spent....here in Switzerland we do and it is called direct democracy. So hey at the end the average US citizen is not the winner but those politicians that need to pursue their own interests....Boomer, u will not see a penny of those taxes...and the over rich do re-invest the money they could save form the IRS.
Yes, your right. I won't see any money collected, if it is collected. And considering our national debt, it will hardly make a difference in the long run anyway.
No I didn't get a degree if that's what you mean but I do have some college and much of it were night courses and hit and miss day courses over the years. What's your level of education, and don't lie.
Like it or not, it's part of our governmental structure and no one should be allowed to get away with avoiding their shared responsibility of paying taxes.
this 'we' business is an abstraction. i don't like it - so much that you'll have to endorse someone kicking in my door and shooting me for your sense of 'shared responsibility' to an organization that has zero incentive to do anything right, ever - thus it never has, nor ever can. don't pay this much attention, i won't bother you again.
Actually, I disagree. The Income tax was never properly ratified and thus illegal. I challenge you to find the LAW that says we each must pay income tax. Also, the income tax only goes to pay the interest on the debt we owe, not for public services as the government tries to guilt you into. thelawthatneverwas . com, I think we should all stop paying income taxes. That's our true responsibility if we want government to be more accountable.
FatLibertarian, I've heard these arguments before, yet people continue to be put in jail for not paying income taxes, especially Federal income taxes. You can fight the established custom if you want but I want a gov, city, state and Fed. I might not approve of everything our Fed or State gov does, in fact a lot discuss me to the core but I don't want to go to jail, therefore I pay taxes I owe.
Boomer, there is a video on here featuring Harry Reid arguing that the income tax is voluntary. Watch it, it's hilarious. Secondly, no court had taken up the issue of income tax not being properly ratified by all states. They keep ignoring the issue and just "aSSume" we have to pay income taxes. No, not really it's unconstitutional and was never properly ratified. It illustrates the corrupt nature of our debt financed system.
Taxes are not just for the little people. However, the UK ,an alledged great friend of the USA,has a number of off-shore islands that make Switzerland a rank amateur. Here is where the fire power of the USA should be concentrated, but of course it won't,because a large number of very rich Americans who live the right parts of London and Paris bank out of these islands, why? They even laugh at those of us and Americans who pay taxes and these are the trust fund kids-disgusting.
have never been "creative" with your tax returns than may
the blessings of God and the federal goverment be upon you.
Also I'm guessing you must be tubing from a convent. It's easy to be jealous of Rich people (which I am not). Be honest. You would love to win the lottery and put all that money in a swiss acount. Tax free. Tax Free. (P.S I do enjoy your observations.)
Have I ever been creative with my taxes? No I don't make the kind of money that warrants the need. Am I "jealous" of rich people..again no. The rich I know personally, I have great sympathy for. They're shy, isolated and even with all their money, not happy. Two have trust issues and the other has a compulsive spending disorder. Only one is truly wealthy, the other two are only rich. There's a difference.
If the evidence conclusvie proves that someone failed to prove thier taxes; Yes that persona should be made to pay them. 1. However what happened to respecting the soverignity laws of the country where US wants to check for tax evaders. 2. Anyone seen the video titled "Ex IRS agent tells it like it is" by YouTuber nalldavid? I thinks interesting to see if its true or bunch of lies about not having to pay income taxes as she says. Watch the video series;...Tell me what do you think?
What that video says may be true but it doesn't hold up in court. Time and time again people who have refused to pay income taxes have gone to jail. Don't ask me to supply you with the statute applied to the cases because I don't know.
In the story (link in side box) sovereignty was not the issue, it was the Swiss banking laws around anonymity. There was a whole lot of pressure being put on the Swiss from 300 countries, including the US about their facilitating criminals from the respective countries. I'm thinking that, to get what they wanted, they threatened to block monetary transfers out of their country to Switzerland.
I don't begrudge anyone their hard earned money but when corporations and those who run them, make billions off the backs of the middle class and working poor, who do pay taxes, hide their wealth off shore to avoid a civic duty we all share, you won't see me crying a river over their losses to the IRS..I say HA - HA
If the government has evidence that a crime has occurred, I think that banks would give information to help law enforcement.
However, the government does not have evidence against all of the 52,000 accounts, and this just looks like they have gone fishing. Whats next, should every banking transaction be reported to the government to be scanned for criminal behavior?
I read the story the same way. Without knowing the names, there could be no evidence of a crime because there would be no records available to examine.
Yet many have been prosecuted and many more are stepping up voluntarily, so something is going on.
Tax evasion has always been a crime, as Al Capone. In the US a court can ask for bank records and certainly the IRS. I don't think small peanuts like you and me have anything to worry about, do we?
I'd prefer the government have evidence of a crime before they investigate someones financial records.
Im probably not one of the 52,000 people, however, I believe that rich people should have the same rights against unreasonable searches as do the poor and middle class.
Yes, no argument there but the Supreme Court has managed to dodge this issue since 2001 and the DHS was created. The ACLU has been bringing case after case to the court and they basically say "we live in a new world now", refusing to rule against the practice of police check points and such. In this case, it's pretty much common knowledge that the Swiss help tax evaders, in fact they admitted to it.
swiss has givenup the names, we have them, a swiss banker has also gave them to a rep. of wik liks WE HAVE THEM, GREAT VID.
