There is software that can fix the problem. Just go to your nearest Cyberdyne location to get it installed and you should be good until your smart car becomes self-aware.
I have a 2006 cdi that also has the same problem but will not start and if you step on the brakes the dash light flash and the display comes on as if you turned on the key. When turning on the hazard lights all the dash lights flash as well. Mine also leaked around the windshield so the SAM unit might be burn.
i have a smart fortwo 2006 it's fine don't worry :) this is just some falty wiring it happens once in a million. don't hesitate to buy a smart it's a fantastic car
If it only happen when you rolling down a hill stop doing it. Smart center Amsterdam told me, that I cant driver down a hill in N. Because the EPS in confused because of that. Hope this helps mate.
My car does the same thing when i turn off the motor while rolling down the road and turning the key back on. All the lights come on and the speedometer doesn't show anything.
In the midel you see (=) apeer. Thats a sing you cant shift. Normaly it shows the gear your in 123456 Or A for Automatic. The L&R circeles are freaking out, I dint have so mutch gas, or that hicht temp. I sold this smart, and bouth a nw one. Passion 2007. Old model because, personaly I love this one better.
Let MC Chek the rings around your wheel, those who are counting the rotation of your wheel for the ABS/ESP. Loosen the platic plate unther your car, write unther your drivers seat, there is the ABS box. Chek for erosion of the conector. Or chek all the whires to your fuse box, and all the fuses! It also could be the driving wheel!!!!! There is a also a ring, that mesures your rotation for ABS/ESP! (its in the driving wheel itself)
(continued from previous comment) ... NOBODY has come up with a fix, complicated by the fact that mine has a LPG conversion, whereby SMART are using this as an excuse to continue the fault finding. However, I know it's not the LPG system, as this was fitted a year before the problems started, whereas the cruise control was fitted a week before the problems started. But how to prove it???
clubdore, your smart's symtoms seem worse than mine, as the complete cluster display and lights blinking the way yors does only happened twice on mine. Most of the time it's just the ESP and ABS lights comming on, the Cruise, ESP and ABS stoping to work, and the odometer reading after the next key-on jumping to a higher but wrong reading. The star diagnostics have listed faults with the SAM, the ECU, MEC, the cluster, the steering wheel sensor, the lateral acceleration sensor etc...

what is the green light?
ps whats the little black circles next to the square box that were flashing?
cmarlow480 4 years ago
The left black circles = gasoline level.
The right black circles = Tempature level.
Groen light = turn lichts.
