  • Travis got them Paul Gilbert fingers!

  • so everyone who listens to this music is a total nob who feels smart?

  • This is the first time ive listened to them.... and holy shit. This is crazy. I love this.

  • Does anyone know the name of the intro song? I just got into them

  • @ImIntoAnimals It's called Whales

  • I saw these guys with protest the hero and last chance to reason plus i got to meet chris such a cool guy...

  • @shredder6078 I'm seeing them in may so pumped.

  • ОХУЕТЬ ПАЦАНЫ! ЭТИ МУЖИКИ ПРОСТО НЕРЕАЛЬНО КРУТЫ!

  • Is it just me, or in this song (CD version/mp3) when they do the "part 6" area of the song, you know around 1:40, doesn't it sound like they're hitting an F# on the HIgh E string, on the third/last chord of the progress?

example it does C5, E5, D5 with the left hand, right hand is 7 and 7, 12 and 12, but the third time it sounds like a 14th fret F# on the high E is added to the E......

  • a collaboration with Tosin Abasi would be KILLER.... P.s. song at 0:12?

  • I like this version more than the studio version lol

  • Sucks that you need some really powerful fingers to play this :(

  • u guys should be touring with AAL

  • @losonva agreed

  • Amazing musicians and super nice guys. Can't wait to see them again in a few weeks.

  • Haha at 5:56 travis looks down and is thinking "oh....fffff, is that what it is? huh...."

  • I kind of feel the guy with the blue shirt is a dick.

  • @alexismorche Chris is really nice to his fan.. He even take the time to properly reply a question from fans which surprise me, since not lot of band do that kind of thing. Go to his channel and add him on Facebook and you'll see what i mean.

  • This is my favorite song of all time!!! I bought a 7 just to learn to play (like) this! YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! P.s. COME TO SAVANNAH

  • wats the opening song called???

  • did they forget their picks?

  • Does he have the low F# string? Or the extra high A# string?

  • @StarFaukes It's an extra high string

  • @ktxdgqtx yeah I thought so I want the same setup for my 8

  • @StarFaukes

    It's an extra high string, but I think it's a G

  • @StarFaukes

Btw, he's playing a 7 in this video so it's just B standard. When he's playing his 8, he has a high G

  • @RyanPullin but dude, it's obviously an 8 string

  • @StarFaukes it's a 7 string, count the machineheads on the headstock

  • @StarFaukes

    Count the tuning pegs, dude.

  • @RyanPullin oh shit, now I see it, that's deceiving as fuck, it's like an optical illusion

  • @StarFaukes

Haha I don't blame you dude. The first time I saw it, I thought it was an 8 string custom Ibanez. Turned out it was a 7 string made by Sherman guitars, I'm pretty sure.

  • 2:42 - 3:00 So good.

  • It's like the Andy McGee of the djent world.

  • @JacoTheSkunk But, there's no djent sound anywhere in STS...

  • 6 people will never reach or just cant reach the summit

  • do you need a 7-string guitar for this?

  • @MrToad712 indeed sir

  • Great band. My band is playing with these guys in February in Orlando. Saw them in St. Pete with BTBAM awhile ago as well, great show.

  • Ah fuck it.. tap the fuck out

  • Just saw them yesterday, amazing live!

  • I saw these guys when they played with Dream Theater in Winnipeg. Fucking Amazing show.

  • @Deadmau5x420 I was there too! And I agree it was a good show.

  • beautiful.

  • Picks. Who needs em?

  • I feel like you need a high IQ to like the complexity of this music.

  • @Lawrbear Perhaps

  • @Lawrbear No, just a passion for great music. I've seen completely idiotic people like great music and highly intelligent people enjoy awful radio hits. Of course it goes both ways, but intelligence and music taste really don't have that much to do with each other. Then again there are so many grey areas to everything.....

  • @Lawrbear fun fact: you do. =]

  • Damn did they go to college for this? If not that's immense talent. You don't hear people play with this kind of emotion anymore. It takes a lot of time and skill to write music like this..

  • @AgentSpiral

    yes they did MI

  • @AgentSpiral I believe Tosin Abasi went to music school, however I'm not sure if these guys did. I wouldn't be surprised if they did, but y'know it's hard to teach how to put emotion into music, and in my experience, if you put too much music theory into it, then it loses emotion. There's a good saying: "Learn the theory, then throw it out the window". You learn the technical sutff so that you know what you're doing, and then you disregard it in favor of emotion and what sounds good to you.

  • @Iliketacos091 I know Chris went to Burklee ...pretty sure Travis did too

  • @FALLENxxSKAT3R or MI , i forget

  • @AgentSpiral Dream Theater, Joe Satriani, Erik Mongrain, Andy McKee

  • @AgentSpiral yeah they did. Berklee i think :O

  • Comment removed

  • @meemat Hitting that fine line between technical wankery, and beautiful composition is hard to come by

  • lol of course, Travis has berklee written all over him! He attended berklee college of music i believe. very talented

  • incredible

  • yeah its great, but its definitely a copy of the great plains

  • They seem so cool too... Too bad their first CD is fucking sold out! Make some more please!

  • i thought this was gana be something stupid like attack attack, but it was this! OMG!

  • I love where guitar is going. People like this are pushing the limits. I almost feel like 8 strings is going to become standard soon.

  • @bubsadoozy fyi, they only have 7 strings each, the only band i can think of off the top of my head is Meshuggah

  • @dragonreborn7 I know they're playing seven strings I should have said more strings than 6 I guess. Listen to Animals for Leaders. Arguably Tosin Abasi is the best guitar player of our time. He plays an 8 string and I've never seen a cooler slap technique than his.

  • @bubsadoozy Animals as Leaders*..

And Chris plays an 8, too, guys.. Not 7 each.

  • @dragonreborn7 Other than AAL which has been said, there's After The Burial, and I think Born of Osiris said there were going to use 8 strings at some point if they didn't already

  • @dragonreborn7 i know this isnt djent prog or anything but whitechapel uses 8's and the acacia strain does now, all the other bands people have said except born of osiris only uses 7's molotov solution uses 8's too, and a lot more i cant remember

  • props, buddies.

  • Proof that gingers have souls.

  • You guys think this is amazing to watch them play this on here? I've seen them play it live, with Jordan and Pat, dear god it was amazing, especially at like 2:25

  • love this song

  • what was song was the riff he played in the beggining?

  • @Mohamed636 it's from their song 'Whales'

  • these dudes are phenomenal and Travis is such a fucking nice guy. Can't wait to see them again.

  • skilled.

  • does anybody know what the gauges on those guitar are ? this requires a shitload of finger strength.

  • @northstarprod 10-56 at 25.5 scale. Standard tuning, you'll get used to it.

  • go watch this it need more views /watch?v=7BzVpIzTyhw&feature=share

  • This is what happens when you buy nice guitars, you run out of money to buy picks....and you get creative!

  • These, my friends, are two incredible musicians

  • whats the song in the beggening?

  • @KrazzyKripples Whales.

  • Fuck picks.

  • I like it without the drums

  • Just fell asleep.

  • travis is very little in person, I was shocked at how young he looked when i saw them live, the age is all in the beard lol

  • why does this song have to be in B tuning :(

  • They'd be better if they incorporated tapping into their playing.

  • @coolstorybrooooooo you sir, obviously dont listen to Scale The Summit

  • it sounds just as good slowed way the hell down.

  • who the fuck uses a pick...

  • These guys would kick ass playing the Chapman Stick!!

  • BTW good luck on tour, hope you make it back by Christmas!!!

  • So excited to play with these guys!

  • cool crimsonesque fripperish steve reichian very nice

  • Comment removed

  • Sounds like the the begginning of Mash

  • Who ever disliked this is an absolute idiot

    .....

  • @sumdude116 or maybe they just have different taste in music.....

  • boring as flies fuck

  • these guys are brilliant

  • do you guys use high action? i'm having trouble getting a clean sound doing two-handed tapping with pretty low action.

  • @fightingnate what guitar do you play?

because somtetimes it's the fault of the guitar itself and not how you set it up that it doesn't sound clean

  • @742617044427 Ibanez Universe 7 string. I don't think it's the guitar itself, it's a pretty nice guitar and has a good clean tone, but when i do this kind of hammer-on-tapping the strings just dont ring out crystal clear like they do in the video, though it's also probably my technique :/

  • @fightingnate yeah I don't think that it is the guitar ...just work on your technique, you can never go wrong with that

  • Why have these guys removed all of their tabs from the internet, damnit.

  • @07NathaH so they sell more tab books. It sucks, but it makes sense.

  • This guy can actually explain things :D

  • damn good teachers

  • What sis the intro song?

  • Man they totally stole this from Joe Satriani's Midnight.

  • @MrHellboy4ever Its not the same song, they've learned from Joe... Vai does the same thing.

  • Why aren't these guys at spotify?!?!

  • @Soulfulshreddify but they are lol

  • @heyyitsRJ I can't find them :C

  • imagine this band if they had a singer

  • @wmc128 don't even thing ab out that this band is better without a singer

  • @wmc128 Travis gives me guitar lessons and he says that they have thought about it before and they think that it would ruin it.

  • : O that is another level of beautiful... i just pooped, peed, and came.... and im crying

  • ...dude speachless

  • великолепно

  • this is however, sick as fuck

  • No dislikes... it.. it can't be..

  • @tiekoe jus cuz you said something about dislikes, im going to dislike it. i am tired of everyone writing some stupid shit about dislikes. its retarded

  • @artlovemusicpeace And you're a bitter fuckstick, how's that any better?

  • @artlovemusicpeace wow, thats so bitter and dark of you

  • @artlovemusicpeace so reply on a reply about dislikes... so then i can reply about you replying about other ppl replying about dislikes... anyone want to kkeep it goin?!?

  • impressive

  • FUCKKK I NEED A SEVEN STRINGS GUITAR

  • @shockandawe123 sell your 6 strings. thats what i did. i sold my ibanez rgt42dx , with seymour duncans (1000 dollar investment) to buy an agile septor 727. I ma so glad i did, because its absoluetly fantastic. and its 650 new. i recomend doing it.

  • @teamSKDM Agile? is it good?

  • @shockandawe123 Shit yeah they are.

  • @shockandawe123 Yeah. I got one too. I had to adjust the neck and get it set up and whatnot. But it HAULS. Sounds fantastic, Plays Great. Easily as good as $1500 guitars.

Can't afford not to buy one. :)

  • @riotsvoice But question is...will it blend? Haha jokes, ok I better start saving up

  • whats the name of that first song?

  • @Raven5620 one of the first two songs off their new album. i forgot which atm.

  • @Raven5620 Alpenglow off of their new album.

  • @Raven5620

    Its a track called "Whales"

    Its not alpenglow

  • @BeADjent AAL and scale the summit have totally different styles, so you can't really compare them in such manner. Your name suggests that you like Djent, therefore AAL would be more suitable for your tastes. The same can't be said for other people too.

  • My fretting hand is tired just watching this

  • the way their hands just float up and down the neck is incredible.

  • 13,000 views and no dislikes yet?! There's hope for this world after all!

  • What guitar does Chris own?!

  • @Dragonslayer6001 Sherman

  • I get this Gordian Knot vibe from this song. That's a really good thing.

  • GOD DAYUMN THERE AMAZING !!

  • 5:04 reminds me of just parts of the intro to M.A.S.H lol

  • FUCK PICKS! I'll just use my fingertips and the fretboard :D

  • Song at beginning?

  • @mayydaymurda 'whales' by them.

  • This fucking blew my mind when I saw it live. My new favorite song.

  • Yeah, they're good, but can they play free bird?

  • @xtheangelx now thats what makes a man right there

  • @xtheangelx why?

  • @xtheangelx At this technical level in guitar playing they could probably play freebird with their eyes closed. If your a guitar player you should know that. I've never listened to these guys but 1:00 into the video its obvious to see how skilled they are. And Eric Johnson Cliffs of Dover is a 10x harder solo to play than free bird if you wanna talk about classic guitar solos.

  • @xtheangelx Lynard skynard??? are you hearing what theyre doing??

  • @xtheangelx Could Lynyrd Skynyrd play scale the summit is the question.

  • 8========D

  • which gives you a... darker sound... xD Lol

  • chris' guitar is gorgeous anyone know what it is?

  • @Justatst123 Mike Sherman guitars .. I believe :)

  • @Justatst123 It's a Mike Sherman guitar. :).

  • well dammit now I need a 7 string

  • @thatwhitekid615 It's possible to play a lot of their songs on a 6 string. They tend to only have a couple notes out of range, but you can make up for it by playing those notes an octave higher, or sometimes tuning in 6 string B standard will work.

  • @thatwhitekid615 what you dont know is that they are both waiting for you to pick up a 7 string so that they can get 9 strings just to play things you cant lol

  • Comment removed

  • @cjrademaker 4 pegs on top...3 on bottom....4+3=7...
