  • Master of the warpath guitar....

  • the video you have to down by the river he plays more notes than in the audio you have playing, just search CSNY Down by the River here on youtube 2 watch it

  • the videos shown dont match the song being played

  • What's your point? The video slightly matches in places and it doesn't in others. Who fucking cares? And for it to match there would need to be videos of the original studio recordings. Quite the observation though. I'm sure nobody realized this until now.

  • Very strange subject to analyze but inneressting. Never thought of that note. Fun to watch though

  • southern man is his best song along with like a hurricane-----I recall a DJ back in 1970 as the song came on says heres the best rock n roll song ever recorded & that jus strcu a cord in me & I been neil young fan ever since----ROCK N ROLL MUST NEVER DIE

  • That was great! I'm a huge Neil fan and found your video very cool and funny. Neil's guitar playing has more to do with feeling than with perfection. That's what makes him my favorite.

    Again, nice job!

  • I loved your editing at 01:19, very funny.

I think Neil is a brillant rock guitar player, him & Zappa are my two favourites.

  • Thanks for pointing out his lead guitar method. I never really noticed that before.

  • hahahaha, you're on to something here. well it's not how many notes you play really...it may be just THE best note in the world. neil rocks!

  • so many best songs...

    ambulance blues is any more

  • I'm seeing him in 46 days...

  • Neil can play as many same notes as the guy wants,,,,, hes a fuckin ledgend,,, I went to see him on sunday,,, best concert ive EVER been to,,

  • wat are you trying to say about neil, i could listen to the sound of crazy horse all day long. neilyoung has found an amazing sound no matter how many notes he plays!

  • It's not how many chords you play it's the sound and feel you get...that's what Neil Young understands. He is a brilliant songwriter and he has a songwriters ear for what he's playing on his guitar.

  • Neil's a music legend. Many great songs. The best song he ever did was Southern Man, 11 minutes version, on the Live "4 Way Street" album. Put out about 1970, it available on CD. He jams with Stills on that version and it's a rock masterpiece. The drums and bass are really tight and it's just a great song. A guitar masterpiece, one of the top ten best songs ever made. Great recording.

  • Your right southern man is his best song

  • perhaps but there so many fan of his one note solo ! Neil's so fukin good rocker !

    Nice vid !

  • Watch our Southern Man. Let us know what you think.

  • u could make one with keith richards as well..

  • svennybob, you have caught the essence of the man...

  • I enjoyed watching and listening to this, good job. This is why I love Neil. I remember when Neil released "Ragged Glory" one of his best albums. Someone asked him why he put so much feedback at the end of each song. He said something like, "You have the song, which is the main course, and then at the end you have the feedback, which is kinda like the dessert." GENIUS!

  • If it sounds good once, it's worth repeating! Hey, Neil released an entire CD full of feedback (Arc). He definitely knows a good sound when he hears it.

I prefer Neil's playing to any other guitarist. I'd rather listen to someone who plays with "feel" (Neil), than someone who is technically incredible but plays crap music (Yngwie Malmsteen).

  • Right on buddy, you are a guitarist so you understand.Anybody can play noise on a guitar, few can play with this kind of emotion.Anybody else, listen to John Fahey, you will understand true emotion.

  • to hold that "C" on Cinamon Girl ... well, that's what told us ... he's differebt ... even if, any girl in the world could have easily known him better ... he's strange, and changes with every concert ... a true child

  • We'll done with the Door's quote aha

  • I don't think this guy was going for a Doors reference. It's Neil's Mr. Soul. "Any girl in the world could have easily known me better. She said 'You're strange, but don't change' and I let her." And "Is it strange I should change? I don't know, why don't you ask her?"

  • hahahahahahahahahahahaha neil loves this note apparently xD nice¡¡¡¡¡ hahahahaha

  • Svennybob, I love this video . Glas you made it. I loooove that note too, and also the winding, jammering(wancking?) sound of his guitar. Also do i love his "completely off tempo random movements across the stage"as you called it earlier. I saw him last week in Amsterdam. It was better than i hoped it would be. Wow, he sure can rock and he kicks ass. But, i love those 1-notes a heck of a lot... Thank you for posting, i listen to it a lot

  • The most repetitive Neil Young recording is Cowgirl in the Sand from Live at the Fillmore East. That is not an insult. It is my favorite Neil Young recording. But it should be a part of this video.

  • Thanks, now I feel as thought I've been to all of his concerts!

  • OMG! I had to watch this again. LMAO!!! Thank you for posting this. I love Neil!

  • Hilarious! I LOVE it!!! No one else can one note it like Neil! Seriously? Who out there can do this and make you feel like Neil does!

  • the universe in a single note

  • Is that a clip of the music video of Hey Hey My My on 5:50? Cus I've never seen it. Can ya tell me where to find it?

Any ways, NEIL IS THE MUSIC GOD! Only way to describe these songs is a "Musical Orgasm":D It goes crazy and it is just so wild, it rocks, i wonder how many strings has he screwed up with all those solos :DDDD

    ROCK ON NEIL!!!!!!!!!!!

this is just something that never dies. like jimi hendrix or beatles, but in its very own unique way!

    NO HIDDEN PATH!

  • Specifically the clips at 5:50 are from Rockin' in the Free World. There are versions of Hey Hey, My My from Rust Never Sleeps and Weld and the odd other live video on here though.

  • I cant believe this is presented as some sort of negative!!! Who gives a shit.. This is some the greatest music ive ever heard in my life its totally fucking ROCKING!

  • It's not negative at all. A bit of joking about Neil's style aside, who would invest the time making this if they weren't a fan?

  • I learned to solo to Neil Young songs because they're long, simple, passionate, and fun. Neil Young isn't a technical god, but his guitar really speaks, and that makes him a step above even Malmsteen.

  • What people don't realize is its not how many notes you play it's the sound you get and the phrasing. Neil is a brilliant songwriter and has an ear for what sounds right. Down by the River is brilliant because of how interesting he can make hitting one note over and over sound.

  • Haha, great video. Just like what you said about those Spanish fans getting it completely backwards, at least we didn't have one of his best guitar tracks (Cortez the Killer) become banned in our countries. Long may you ROCK Neil!

  • lol, he does do it a lot, the one noted solos, but theres a few songs where he dun do it

  • He's not the most graceful of performers but he gets the feeling across.

  • haha, neil young kicks ass!!

  • This was great. Thanks. Very funny. Neil also has a lot of songs with the word "got". Neil 'got' songs might make for a good medley.

  • Your collection of Neil's one note meke me feel happy, tahnks for this awesome video : )

  • You either have Rock in the blood or not. If yiou have it you will see the genius of this true legend who can speak more with one note than most others can do with all of them and then when he cuts loose awesome!!

  • youre a dick.

  • Could you elaborate on that...

    Who is? Why?

  • Neil Young is..............that's who he was refering to.

Southern Man STILL does not need him around.

  • this is real magic

  • Awesome post! I enjoyed it A WHOLE LOT!!!! LONG LIVE NEIL!?!?!

  • Right on. Putting this all together was a labour of love.

  • This was funny. Neil rules!

  • I could be wrong, looks like you know your stuff. Good post!

  • GENIAL TIO

  • Of course Neil cannot compare to the number of songs YOU have written. I would like to hear some of your songs, please post them.

  • Hey asshole. Who are you talking to? Me? Why would I go to all this effort if I was criticizing Neil? Check out my favourites. Hmmmm, seems like I love Neil Young. Go fuck yourself.

  • I read "southern man don't need him around anyhow" and watch a video that appears to make fun of him. I can see the humor in your video now. Just sticking up for Neil, did not mean to start a war. I guess my comment started out kinda slow and then fizzled out all together.

  • You should have done your comment as a reply to the clueless redneck guy then to avoid confusion. There is some making fun of Neil to this. But there's also respect for his eccentric style. But what Neil fan hasn't made fun of this guy? His neanderthal look. His sidies. The completely off tempo random movements he makes across the stage. And of course the one note solos.

  • He pours all his heart and soul into those single note solos and he uses feedback better than anyone I've ever heard. His live shows are quite the experience, youtube can't come close to what it's like being there. I am happy to finally see the Weld stuff though.

  • Have you seen all the Weld videos on BPMead007's channel? Neil live is definitely in a completely different league than through speakers. I saw him when I was 12 in 1996 at the height of his tearing the shit out of it days. The concert I saw was basically a page out of Weld. It was ridiculously loud and shook you in the chest. It was Neil at his best, kicking serious ass. Glad I know first hand how hard he could rip it.

  • I saw him in the summer of '96 @ Deer Creek Music Center. Best concert I've ever been to. Cortez had me engulfed in chills and had me floating above the ampitheater.

  • I love how he moves when he plays. Even if it is the same note, this vid just served to make me way too horny. *retreats to private Neil Young vid collection for several hours... :P*

  • omg i am crying with laughter

  • this is funny to me. is that bad?

  • It definitely is hilarious that it's not even a joke about how much he uses the one note business. People that like Neil probably find it funny and love the songs, but people that don't "get" him probably won't be impressed.

  • Great compilation and I never tire of watching the man live.

This is one act better on stage than on disc.

    Thanks Svennybob.

  • Congrats on the awesome job, Neil and Crazy Horse do deserve it, for sure !

  • it's probably a statement against the guitar neck wankers who play a guitar like it's a penis, of which they also get much practice with as they spend most of their time in the basement working out their fast but incredibly LAME shred guitar solos.

  • I saw a video, it's on here somewhere, of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen shredding up Rockin' in the Free World. Needless to say it was a travisty with throwaway solos and zero memorability and no soul.

  • i know to many notes geez! i agree though they messed it up

  • malmsteen, steve vai, satriani, suck big time, they have no feeling or soul

  • Hey, get off Neil's ass! And "stickfiguregum", you are full of crap. Look at all the younger rockers that idolize Neil (Eddie Vetter - Kurt Cobain for instance). He is not perfect and his voice is quirky but Neil is Neil-a great acoustic guitar player and harmonica player who survived many hardships, polio, seizures, and having a son with cerebral paulsy. Just listen to his music and love it. "Rock and Roll Will Never Die"!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Neil sang this is a story about johnny rotten but said he was not Johnny _____.

  • Huh?

  • Carson

  • I'm sorry, the one note thing gets very old quickly. Neil Young is kind of a weird guy, quite frankly. There are plenty of artists who deserved to make it more than he did.

  • I guess if you have a chip on your shouldar about Neil to begin with, this one note fest would definitely rub you the wrong way.

  • It's not that I've got a chip on my shoulder, I do like some of the melodies he comes up with. He has talent in the aspect that he often plays the harmonica and the guitar at the same time when he performs live. However, he doesn't have a great voice, he's rather tone deaf for a professional musician, and some of the lyrics he comes up with aren't that great. As for the comment about the one note thing getting old, I didn't mean the video, I mean the fact that he uses it in so many songs.

  • You missed Neil's most frantic one-note solo, right after the line "Every wave is new until it breaks!" in Rapid Transit on the Re-ac-tor album. Check it out....

  • Holy shit, you're not kidding. That would have been a nice touch for the video. But even though I actually have that song in my Neil Young music folder, I've never listened to it.

  • Neil Young is a great guitarist enough said ... i can listen to those one notes for as long as i want

    rock on !!

  • One guy commented about the article where they have no fucking clue what I was doing here. The guy talks about Neil's style being enchanting and unique, and that my video is insolent and that the video doesn't match with the music. I love Neil. I don't think they get that over in Spain. Of course the video doesn't synch up. Who fucking cares? And again, if I didn't like Neil or know anything about him WHY WOULD I MAKE THIS? And by the way Spain, at least my country didn't ban Cortez the Killer.

  • Seems a Spanish Neil Young site doesn't approve of my efforts here. This video will apparently "not win any Oscars (surely)". Then the assholes suggest I listen to Arc and that it may change my opinion about Neil. I know what Arc is. I know what Neil is. I think I know fucking plenty about Neil. If I was making fun of him or didn't like him, why would I have all the music to make this video, know what songs to use, and bother to make the video?

  • Nicely done, must've taken quite a bit of time.

  • Yeah. Worked on it in segments for a while. Windows Movie Maker made it take even longer though due to it freezing and crashing every couple minutes.

  • This is Neil Young. Period. He can do things with one note that no one else could ever contemplate. He could piss into a bucket and it would be note perfect. What else is there to say?

  • Who else but Neil can make that one note so interesting?

  • Neil and only Neil can make one note sound so fuckin' perfect.

  • i agree, he roooooooooooocks!!!!
