I had to laugh tonight. I was sort of getting after my grandchild for her leaving her cello and bow on the floor. So I picked it up, and began playing Louie Louie (since I know absolutely nothing about strings, it was fun, my grandson who playes bass, several guitars and drums asked me the notes, I said, "the 3 open, 3 blue, one yellow", he said that really helped him..so I went to Youtube and brought up the Kingsmen and others for them to hear. All in all, it was a good lesson!
Rockin' Robin Roberts of the 1962 Wailers wrote and sang the first rock version of Louie Louie. Made more famous by the kingsmen, but the wailer's version was so superior!
Louie Louie was written by Richard Berry of Los Angeles, CA. and recorded first by Richard Berry and The Pharohs. Several other NW bands including Little Bill & The Blue Notes had recorded the tune before Rockin' Robin did his version. Rockin's version was a huge NW hit. Paul Revere and The Raiders and The Kingsmen versions were national hits with The Kingsmen version becoming the best seller.
"Out Our Tree" was my favorite song by the Wailers.....they also did Tall Cool One and The Roadrunner (which I have on Vinyl). How do I post them here???
I believe you would need to convert them to MP3 and lay them down behind some sort of video format. This can be done without a video camera using photos (as I did with "Louie History 101), or even a single photo. Ace and Norton have both released the original "Fabulous Wailers" album (including "Road Runner") on CD. The Ace version features the most bonus tracks.
Wish I knew how to do all that.....I've got a big collection of Northwest music from back then. (I grew up in Aberdeen during the '50s and '60s). Ever heard of Stan Foreman (The DJ) and his "Beachcombers"?? They did a one hit (instrumental) wonder called "The Wheelie" and it was played alot on KHOK/KGHO (Grays Harbor). I still have that and would love to post it here also.
