  • Victor shows such a Fun way to play with a click! haha!

  • Oh my God, Victor you are incredible

  • Can Victor groove or what?

  • Can Victor groove or what?

  • beast

  • The metronome gave up. (:

  • muito bom ,toca muito ,salvei na minha lista de reprodução ,valeu !

  • 0:36 he's tapping the beat even when he's talking

  • 01:55 foda!!

  • He probably has a second mind just for playing =)

  • 02:36 - he is locking himself into the groove like a boss

  • If i knew what he knew =/

  • the hardest one for me is the metronome on the AND 1 2 3 4

  • really great! I'll do it on the harmonica

  • my goal is to ween myself off drugs... lol

  • playing funky stuff and talking casually. how the hell do you do it...

  • @Deadstar6969 You don't.. unless you're Wooten.

  • Reminded me of "Birdland" by Weather Report in the intro bassline!!

  • Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • victor....yesterdays concert was the BEST

  • Victor: there you go

    Me: ok, i quit

  • I see Jesus!

  • jajaja man...

  • that last exercise is legit lol

  • like this if you wish you could say "ahhh" like victor in 2:36

  • need tabs for the first finger groove! awesome

  • how can he be that funky just by walking bass!!! jealous much..

  • I would buy every training groove as an album from this guy. Every groove has more than some bands have in their whole albums

  • SO HARD

  • did he just say if you were like him you would rush??? vic does not rush

  • @KincaidBass hehehe everybody rushes on the fills.. on any instrument.. So he is telling us not to worry.. practice, practice..

  • Hey Vic, I did exactly what you did and my fills still dont sound a bit like yours.

Can you please explain exactly what I need to do in order to sound excatly like you ?

    thnx

  • @godu1111 practice

    for hours on end

    for years

  • @godu1111 practice every day for 1,000 years.

  • 2:36 he just had a Victorgasm.

  • everything Victor say here can apply to every instrument

  • It was a very, very helpful lesson, thank you!

  • He could just gig with his metronome as his whole band.

  • WOW, he sounds exactly like Denzel Washington.

  • @DMitsukirules holy crap your right haha

  • "an i'm gonna keep doing this for a while"

  • nice bass

  • he makes it look so easy

  • This video should be shown to everyone and anyone that wants to play music. This is all you need. Amazing!

  • wow!

  • this guy is a fucking machine groove

  • Un-frewkin'-believable!!!

  • NOT FAIR ! HE IS NOT FAIR !!

  • his simple grooving sounds so much better than mine ever has/will.... it's because of all the stuff he does besides playing the notes. like in his groove workshop dvd

  • Man--he's such a genuinely nice guy--really into helping

other string players to better their craft. met him in

asheville nc--he's really a sweetie and THE best

bass player I have ever seen.

  • his foot isn't tapping out the quarter notes on example 1.1 its tapping the eigth notes. not an easy thing to do though but that's technically cheating because he's tapping out the same timing (160 bpm) but the metronome is clicking at 80 bpm, so he's using that to stay in time. cool excersise too!

  • @justAlex666 he uses the metronome as guidance.. he is not cheating because his foot does not move by itself.. he is good enough to keep the tempo own his own.. he does not need a metronome anymore this is just advertisement for Korg's product line.. Something WE would buy to eventually develop timing as good as Vic's

  • @r3rueda I'm pretty sure Vic still practices with a metronome.

  • i really like this cuz vic is always talking about drum machines when he teaches timing. i dont have a drum machine, but i DO have a metronome. i can learn this stuff!

  • 4 idiots without music sence

  • hi im victooorr wooten

  • amazing grace

  • Thank you for this wonderful video, i am practicing with this , thanks vic for your kindness and also Korg for kindness :).

  • ah common and compound meter

  • demais!!!!

  • Very good lesson

  • Í start to lose it a little bit' WTH Victor couldn't lose it if he tried.

  • i don't see how this would make you want to quit... this makes me want to play..

  • @aliaobass

Exactly. It makes me try harder.

  • ciganin

  • @cupipn lmao !

  • i followed a clinic from him it was awesome

  • incredible, just incredible. And such a symphathic guy, and he has the feeling, oh yeah!

  • the metronome following wooten :)

  • He uses Modulus or Fodera?

  • @paleceumacolneta

he uses a custom fodera monarch

  • He's even better than Les Claypool and Flea combined, and Les and Flea are both awesome bassists.

  • If you are not completely blown away by the second half of this video,..... you're not paying attention!

  • yeah there is always a way to punish yourself until you want to quit your instrument.

Watching Wooten in general does that for you. But this is the RoundhouseKick for the people that still hanging on :D

  • @unruheGER roundhouse to the balls

  • pure genius

  • wow im a guitarist and that is some hectic stuff right there and his bro taught him how to play !@!@! btw his bro pretty much takes victors stuff to a guitar check him out

  • Very useful video for bass players, especially those who don't know why or how to use metronome :) Great teacher!

  • OMFG!!!!!

  • He is like the best bassist ever

  • @CavenEdwards Vic would humbly disagree,he would mention all the musicians that influenced him that got him to where he is. :)

  • @Moog167 Thats one of the things that makes players like him so great. Even though they come up with fresh sounds and new ideas unheard before they still give respect to the men who came before them. He is one of my favorite bass players, and the best technically.

  • he's like the best basses ever

  • woah! great lesson! thanks!

  • Yeaaaaah, see, if I could groove like that off the top of my head, I would hardly be stealing his grooves to practice on.

  • Putting the metronome on different beat subdivisions is something my jazz improvisation teacher taught us. And he got the idea from one of Vic's books. Hard as hell to do at first.

  • i really liked the anacruzic part

  • i like his voice. it is soothing

  • Man....this is awesome. I'd heard of doing a lot of this stuff, and I've even tried it (although I don't practice it, which I really should start doing) but man, the four count over five thing was AWESOME! Such a great concept. I'm definitely going to be trying this, and I will get it. It may take a while, but I'll be better because of it.

  • Such an amazing bassist, him and others ,like Stanley Clarke, really do raise the bar for others. I wish my voice could be melodic and on time when I talked >.>

  • He even talks in time.

  • im so confused!

  • i love the face he makes at 3:37 - feeling it so much

  • I want this métronome !

  • wow he so enjoy...

  • fucking genius ;)

for me he is the best bass player and musician in the world

  • at 10:00 I was just really feeling it. This vid couldn't be too long.

  • korg should sell victor as a metronome^^

  • This would be a great product! They probably would call it something like the VICtronome

  • @molbac yeah !LOL i can imagine a " Korg "yo Victa" series"

  • @molbac :D

  • @molbac hahaha :D

  • @molbac That would be slavery.

  • @molbac He would be too expensive.

  • i love how when he makes a mistake its so minute and hes almost happy when it happens.

  • ya. he bases a lot of his playing and musical philosophy on a line from his tribute to thelonius monk, the loneliest monk. it says, play the wrong notes... right. think about it. :)

  • Give it up for Coach Wooten :D

  • That bass sounds amazing!

  • never thaught of that concept,

  • Uh! I'm on! 5.59

    Hilarious

  • The way he throws those harmonics is just so effortless I think that is what makes him the best since Jaco.

  • reading the description, i gotta say. that is a sick lineup of musicians (including wooten)

  • perfect

  • wow!

  • that slight shift of timing he does with the metronome is BADASS and beyond amazing...maybe i'm easily amused, but victor is still the man, regardless...

  • Victor is taking the piss he's not even trying an he sounds sick!! ( I WORSHIP AT YOUR FEET)

  • This boogieman is really sick :))) Gotta love it.

  • i was laughing from start to finish of this video, he's too good.

  • Jheeezzz 0:24 BEAST!

  • haha. that last exercise was sick.

  • man he so bad ass he makes jammin to a metronome look like fun when in reality its kinda boring...

  • oh my god, he's grooving to a metronome!!! and it sounds fantastic!!

  • monster, makes me cry...

  • groovy nice xD

  • he smiles like "haha you noobs are gonna try to copy me and fuck yourselves"

  • hahahah really!

  • @Rafescow hahaha you right!! i try to copy him...

  • @Rafescow LOL

  • @Rafescow hahaha xD

  • amazing video¡¡¡ great

  • Very very very useful!

  • hahah hes just too fuckin cool man i love it

  • wow, thats really clever, im encouraged now to practice with my metronome again

  • This is fantastic! Thanks Mr. Wooten!

  • what does he play on bass? kinda jazzy or what? i want to play something like it. anybody know something like it?

  • i mean the first song with metronome of course :)

  • @Barcarus fodera guitars mate. Start saving.

  • That's a 70s funk groove. Listen to some James Brown or Sly Stone.

  • yeah, thanks!

  • ummmm ya? just look up other vic stuff. he's the best bassist ever so anything u wanna learn is greatly handy

  • yes, he's the best. i am a big fan! i just asked for the song he played in THIS video HERE^^

  • wtf this man is amazing

  • the last exercise is really cool, never thought of that.

  • great stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is he playing in 4/5 at the end?

  • I think he's playing in 4/4 but the click occurs every 5th note

  • but hes playing with 5 beats to a measure with 4 hits...

  • the metronome is playing five beats to a bar, he is playing in 4/4

  • It's just 4/4, but the met is no longer confined to just the downbeat. Basically, the met is not helping you anymore - it's just a means of defining the time. Vic does trippy stuff like this all the time - I saw him slow a met down as slow as it would go (something like 15 BPM) and play against it so that he only had one met click every 4 bar phrase.

  • No. It's a 4/4 but with the pulse rotating from 1 on the first 4 times, 2 on the seconds, then 3, then 4, then nothing, then 1...

It's about pulsation, not about puting 5 times between two bars (I don't know out to say "mesure (french)" in english).

    So for your clear understanding it's a 4/4 at 200 bpm (40x5).

  • do you mean 5/4 ?

  • victor OWNS a bass!!!

  • "If ur like me, you'll rush when you do the fills..." No one is like Victor!!

  • Whassat? Groove, you say? Wooten can make the bed, cook dinner and do the flippin' dishes without losing the pocket. He is spectacular.

  • I love it when Victa starts to loose it a lil bit :)

  • Nice use of the metronome! Wooten is the man!

  • Sem comenterios !

O que falar de um cara assim !

  • this video realy helps, seeing as im a begining bassist

  • Good for you! the world needs more bassists! I've got two recommendations for ya if u dig this. One is the Victor instructional dvd "Groove Workshop" and the other is his book "The Music Lesson". Both are completely eye opening and great for bassists of any level.

    Cheers!!

  • thanx! I'll defenatley look into those.

  • Sure, Flea can slap the crap outta any bass, Bailey can ring out any harmonics on his fretless, Miller can come up with the funkiest lines, but how many bassists out there can play a five note groove riff in the four-four timing, tap his foot and count fours as well? The last time I heard anyone able to count different beats with his hands and and feet and count out loud, they were native aborigines!

  • I got it! Victor is a native Aborigine!

  • to tell the truth, the others could probably do it. i still think vic is the best, but what he did wasnt as hard as it seemed once you get used to it.

  • he´s not only a good player, he´s even a very smart guy, that´s what i really like from victor, he always finds a new way to practice stuff, or play things, not being bass guitar my main instrument, he always opens my mind =)

  • man...when he said that he was going to count it on a 5/4 beat I was like "hey, its pretty easy :)" then he starded counting 4 on 5 and I was like "NOT"

  • wow. good stuff and great player

  • Adam Nitti, in my opinion is stepping really close on Victors heals.

  • check out Jaco pastorius, Edgar Mayer , John pattutici , marco panacia , just a few , music has nothing to do with race .

  • viktorr NNIICEE!!!!!!!

  • Meatball I believe it would be 4x crotchets slurred over into sixteenth notes as well. I may be wrong, though.

  • What kind of notes would you be using if you played 4 notes per measure with a 5/4 time?

  • half note 3 quarter notes?

  • Very cool, Victor the BOMB!!!!

  • You're right he's using a Fodera bass good comment.

  • victor wooten is good teacher...

  • his orgasm face when he plays is funny

  • that was some killer bass...........vicotor rules..!!!!

  • I just love how his bass sounds I don't know what it is if it's his pick ups or strings or what? I notice his using EMG pickups.
