I am proud to be a vegan. I don't start arguments but I'll stand up for myself if someone challenges me. I think the truth hurts and thats what causes these heated arguments.

@SixShooter0999 Pfft, most of the vegetation raised goes towards livestock feed. Many pounds of plants and water are needed to make one pound of meat. Main reasons for cutting down rain forests is to make room to raise cattle. And the wastes and pesticide run off from both create dead zones in the oceans and contaminate the marine life. @paenitet7nullum Must have been grass fed although majority of animals are raised on feedlots. You don't see those operations out in the open. Hidden from the public eye, out of sight, out of mind! Most animals are raised in big factory farms because it's alot cheaper and 'efficient' to farm them that way. That doesn't make it morally acceptable, obviously it is the furthest thing from it in my opinion. While some animals raised for food are treated better, vegans are still against that.

Nobody has yet explained to me why killing one anamal in the woods is worse then your farmer killing a million in his field. @lukethibodaux Well vegans don't support any kind of animal husbandry anyway, unless they are vegan for merely welfare reasons, otherwise most of us are against the use of animals no matter how 'humane'. But while it may be more 'humane', it is the exception rather than the rule in modern farming. Certainly in terms of the number of animals used in confined factory situations vs organic/free range.
Not all cattle ranches are as horrable as you would think, I worked on a small scale farm many years ago and it looked NOTHING like the pictures you are posting. Wide open pasture, humane treatment, no growth hormones, and when they were ready a quick painless end. No vegan would want pictures of that place posted because it would show that you can in fact raise cattle without cruel and unusual methods. Sorry for bursting your bubble.

@MrVeggieman11 human society and culture, basically everything, was created because we eat meat. look at a chimpanzee, the most creative thing they do is(other then of course hunting) using tools to get termites. termites do not require very big or complicated tools to eat, but a mammoth does you are a descendant of creatures who first became able to hunt impossible prey with very little physical adaptation. and we neaded society to be able to cooperate to kill larg prey, we became non-zombies.

The population was very small back then and we were not raising billions of animals in confined spaces and feeding them growth hormones and antibiotics like we are now. Also we have many alternative food sources than meat whereas in certain climates where plants wouldn't grow, the ppl needed meat to survive. That is not the case now, we can be very healthy as vegans if we choose.

Cholesterol and saturated fat from animals= heart disease, cancer etc- People are starving while we feed huge amount of corns/grains to livestock- Racism, sexism and speciecism all involve the demeaning of a group based on a superficial criterion. Eating animals doesn't cause this per say, it's more like all the problems are linked.

@MrGcm1984 We know both sides of argument, most of us weren't born vegan. Veganism is not just a diet or a lifestyle. It's an expanded awareness and it means taking the suffering of other species seriously, not just your own. Also vegans take the suffering of humans seriously too and if people ate what came from the earth rather recycling nutrients through 'the middle animal' we could feed the world. You can grow 40,000 pounds of potatoes on one acre of land but only 250 pounds of flesh.

Second of all, livestock are not vulnerable to the weather, as you can bring them inside. Problem is people like to quote that little statstic constantly without doing further research into it. That statistic is grouped with other human friendly foods WE actually eat. Example would be the corn we grow, then the corn stalks are fed to the livestock. Same goes for potatos, the leftovers from making french fries also goes to livestock.

People are either going to eat meat or not eat meat, but I believe everyone should know where their food comes from. Just because the label says, "Happy Hens Farm" eggs, doesn't necessarily mean the hens are actually happy in their existence. Learn and then decide.

@LISdafreestyler The amount of protein/calories people need is proportional to their size(bigger people need more, so they eat more. Taking size out of the equation, full-grown people need LESS protein (% of calories) than growing people, because they're growing.
PS It's sad when people say there's not enough protein in vegan diet, because, being vegan already, I cut my protein in half (went 80/10/10 ie fruitarian) still lifting weights, and making gains!! The case is closed for me.

Just checked the nutrition for pasta:
12g of protein per 100g. Which is a good amount. Half of 100g of tuna though. It's much easier to cut fat whilst on eating tuna, the same cannot be said about pasta.
I think it's calories that help you put on muscle and carbs for energy.

@paenitet7nullum Must have been grass fed although majority of animals are raised on feedlots. You don't see those operations out in the open. Hidden from the public eye, out of sight, out of mind! Most animals are raised in big factory farms because it's alot cheaper and 'efficient' to farm them that way. That doesn't make it morally acceptable, obviously it is the furthest thing from it in my opinion. While some animals raised for food are treated better, vegans are still against that.

But while it may be more 'humane', it is the exception rather than the rule in modern farming. Certainly in terms of the number of animals used in confined factory situations vs organic/free range.

Not all cattle ranches are as horrable as you would think, I worked on a small scale farm many years ago and it looked NOTHING like the pictures you are posting. Wide open pasture, humane treatment, no growth hormones, and when they were ready a quick painless end. No vegan would want pictures of that place posted because it would show that you can in fact raise cattle without cruel and unusual methods. Sorry for bursting your bubble.

The population was very small back then and we were not raising billions of animals in confined spaces and feeding them growth hormones and antibiotics like we are now. Also we have many alternative food sources than meat whereas in certain climates where plants wouldn't grow, the ppl needed meat to survive. That is not the case now, we can be very healthy as vegans if we choose.

It's an expanded awareness and it means taking the suffering of other species seriously, not just your own. Also vegans take the suffering of humans seriously too and if people ate what came from the earth rather recycling nutrients through 'the middle animal' we could feed the world. You can grow 40,000 pounds of potatoes on one acre of land but only 250 pounds of flesh.

Second of all, livestock are not vulnerable to the weather, as you can bring them inside. Problem is people like to quote that little statstic constantly without doing further research into it. That statistic is grouped with other human friendly foods WE actually eat. Example would be the corn we grow, then the corn stalks are fed to the livestock. Same goes for potatos, the leftovers from making french fries also goes to livestock.
This is called cherry picking. Finding a study and taking what you like and ignore the rest.

@LISdafreestyler The amount of protein/calories people need is proportional to their size(bigger people need more, so they eat more. Taking size out of the equation, full-grown people need LESS protein (% of calories) than growing people, because they're growing.
PS It's sad when people say there's not enough protein in vegan diet, because, being vegan already, I cut my protein in half (went 80/10/10 ie fruitarian) still lifting weights, and making gains!! The case is closed for me.

Just checked the nutrition for pasta:
12g of protein per 100g. Which is a good amount. Half of 100g of tuna though. It's much easier to cut fat whilst on eating tuna, the same cannot be said about pasta.
I think it's calories that help you put on muscle and carbs for energy.

Meat eaters keep on trying to defend themselves... but their is no good argument for eating meat. I just wish they would have the guts to admit that they just like the taste... which some do... and then laugh, as if their laughter makes them superior...

Yes, it would be one thing if those animals were reproducing in a natural way than if their reproduction and entire life is manipulated by human desires. Creating more life is not always a good thing regardless, in and of itself. Balance and fairness would be better. I'm sure we can kindly deal with the animals who already exist, as long as we try to stop perpetuating the system through our breeding and owning practices. Just my current thoughts, not the end of the debate!
