Can you upload a recording of the Mozart's First Harpsichord Concert in D Major KV. 107 played on one of your harpsichords? Specially the first movement, I will thank you so much. :)
@pyr666 That's the fault of the mic, recording. I have a replica clavichord (a Zuckermann) and the action noise is not at all that obvious in the room when it is just played. to hear what it really sounds like, turn the vol. down until you almost can't hear. The actual musical sounds in a quiet room is much louder, but you almost can't hear the action at all. Here's an aside: play for about an hour all by yourself & just when you've entered clavichord nirvana, the phone rings. It's like a bomb.
@EmilyRules971 There are no pedals on the clavichord: if you want to hold a note, you have to keep your finger on it. The tone of the clavichord has a short decay, so a note dies away much more quickly than on a piano.
I just discovered this 'genre' of classical music. I would really like to hear more clavichord. Does anyone have any recommendations about which pieces/artists I should start listening to for more? This video has really piqued my interest!
@murat10000 J. S. Bach's Partita No. 6 in E Minor is very good. I dont know any other good clavichord pieces but if you need any general classical songs, message me. I'll be more than happy to provide.
Don't mean to be a snob, but the clavichord actually taps the strings from beneath with what is similar to the tip of a flat blade screwdriver. In doing so, it acts much like a fret on a guitar. Note that at the end he presses up and down on the keys to provide a bit of vibrato - the tangents are pressing against the strings from beneath and he's bending the strings with additional pressure. Fantastic instrument, fantastic performance! You play very well. Thanks!
Why the need for profanity in comments? Why do otherwise intelligent people use obscenities even in POSITIVE comments (including some left for Christmas music!) etc.? It's pointless, thoughtless, and detracts - not adds to - the You Tube experience. Bach - and this wonderful playing - deserve better.
I will try to explain to you why :) --for humour! Words are mere "packaging", not the content; they are mere pointers to things, not the things/energetic entities themselves. Humour often works by "undoing" something, by introducing something "inappropriate", out of place, but slightly distorting something, etc. For example a comedian may distort their pose or grimasse to produce laughter. The pose/face are like words:they r the external packaging of a being...same logic:Dthe kind intent counts!
They do have a sound not unlike some of those produced on a synthesizer; but you should listen around, I personally find the subtleties in clavichords to appear the most profoundly varied amongst the instruments when compared with the harpsichord--you may well hear one you like. Regardless, an invaluable tool in its day whether the player favored it much or not.
@dolofonos i think the reason why it sounds like a synth is because of the phasing/chorus effect caused by the two strings slightly out of tune for each key. its like having two oscillators slightly out of tune turned on with the synth.
I first heard this piece on the old "Switched on Bach" album, back in the 60's, where it is played on a Moog synthesizer. Incredible playing, meaning YOU!
Grand music, on an intimate scale! I love the idea of Bach's huge universe of expression in the form of a delicate, personal instrument. Clavichord was Bach's favorite (next to the organ, of course), and the image of him sitting by candlelight playing for himself while the family slept is certainly magical. Great videos. Glad I found them.
this intrument is very unique. i like how the sound is quite difforent from the sound of a harpsichord. also i like how its quiet so you wont distirb people in the nieghborood. Very good insterment, excelent playing. Brava!
Do you know the cantata sinfonia version of this prelude? It's awesome! trumpets, drums, hautboys, flutes, string band, and of course, obbligato organ which plays this line and bunch of other virtuosic bariolage. I just wish i could remember which cantata it's from! :D
Fantastic!!! It may not be Rachmaninoff's transcription as far as added harmonies, but I think you've definitely got him beat with regard to choice of instrument!
A well chosen piece, well played on a well chosen instrument!
Beautiful!

@andrewwojcik21
well
basically, the clavichord is a bunch of strings gettin picked by some kind of ''plectrum''
thats why it sounds like a guitar

Very nice touch: should serve a lesson to all the majority that POUND the motherfucking keys each time they put their paws on a clavichord.
