i have a 99 sl1, 5spd, nice car got it for a grand, something great to learn stick shift on, bc sometimes if im on flat surfaces not uphill, i can let the clutch out and it goes, no gas needed, but other times i need to give it some gas.
ok, i need help from somebody who knows something about saturns. i have 1999 saturn SW2. so far ive gutted the airbox, and did some minor mods to the exhaust muffler, so the car runs pretty well, but i wanna get some more power out of it. Anyone got any ideas? Im already working on a custom underbody ram air intake (hope that turns out well),and im want a new muffler, but i dont see how i can fit one in there, so i guess i could use some help with that too
its not a bad car, it works just fine. and i cant buy a new one, cuz im not exactly living on my own yet, i got the car from my mom. didnt wanan mention that to start with cuz of all the haters, but whatever
@allisinthepass not that fast but great for acceleration. You can smoke any ricer with a SL1 like that, you can even beat a corvette given the right distance. There's even a youtube video about it.
i have the exact same car and its running a 8.5 on the 1/8th mile so its pretty quick. but it has quite a bit more thn yours.lol But i was wondering how you changed the shifting know becuz mine wont come off???
ya thats fast... aahh the gear shift, i looked so long for it, well u basicaly have to pull up rly hard and it should come off, i mean rly hard, because they only wedged it in place
@pepene93 Ok just saw this... first things first, if it rains to much where you live don't put a cold air intake in the car (filter is outside of engine bay in the inside of the fender) or buy a bypass valve, full 2.25 exhaust and buy a glasspack as a resonator, (the longer the better for low sound), go to a junkyard and get a exhaust manifold and downpipe from a 91-92 sc2. Hope it helps.

hey guys i been modifying cars since i was 16 yrs old now 38..you can modify anything that drives like the guy mentioned b4 no matter what car it is..i have a 2001 saturn sl1 that i modified put new racing exhaust, a computer chip i bought on ebay, hood scoops made of carbon fiber, racing aluminum wing and also k&n air filter which i drilled holes in my filter box and it does the same job as a cold air intake system..my car now has 135hp from 100hp..
Wow Mikichenko. Wow. Let me correct you. SOHC Saturns are not worth the time or money to mod, considering that they came from the factory with a whopping 86HP! But DOHC Saturns... (SC2, SL2, SW2) When properly modified can accelerate as well as a V6 Maxima (VQ35DE, same engine as 350Z). And oh boy do they have great suspension so yes DOHC Saturns are worth it. Far more than any Honda or Mitsubishi. (Except Evo... well duh...)
any car that can be drivin can be modified! and i too have one just like this one and its definetly not slow has great acceleration! just wish i could afford to mod it!!
i dont know what you have been driving, but the saturn sl1 does NOT have great acceleration. i drive one. then when i get into an integra or even a civic, it's like day and night.
You don't have A/C, and I don't have Power Steering!

you could of taken the grills off your rear speakers, and u should of gotten the dash kit from like walmart for the radio

Excellent Exhaust noise sounds good on it. Saturns handle the twisties so nice :)

my advice would be buy a new car, the s cars do not have the best of engines, if i were u i would save up and get something better

i have one just like this one, it's way too slow.
i wouldnt have wasted my time and money.
