first of all. that was some good TKD. notice i said tkd. self defence was there are so blattent problems. but those are the same problems that most styles that focus on the sport aspect have. i.e. boxing, and muaythai. however this is obviously for TKD sparring not real self defence practice. so there isnt a need to beet them up about it.
@samlee1890 well actually many mma fighters have tried tkd. though using only tkd sparring methods is foolish. the same would apply to only using boxing, or only using bjj. you need the total package. however just like boxing makes you better with your hands. tkd will make you better with feet. anyone can benifit from faster more powerful kicks.
For all the ignorants here, they are sparring, not trying to beat the shit out of eachother,1:Martial Arts uses an honor system, 2: Use techniques only if attacked, unless in sparring. The ponit in sparring is to try to dodge the kicks and punches, the more hits you get the more point for you.
I got a question for people who saids they aren't punching so they suck or they could've been punched in that distance or whatever. Woudld you look at a boxing match and wonder why they aren't kicking or they suck because they leave their groin wide open? You don't, right? This is sports TKD, and they are good at it. Also, you can use TKD skills for real combat, but it requires different strategy and practice.
Boxers dont leave their groin wide open...dear god the idiocy....
Those guys are KICKING to the head with their arms down and their face unprotected.
And their low kicks are just gay taps when a well placed MT or Kyokushin low kick would floor them due to the fact their stance isnt equally distributed in weight and balance.
dude, u r not getting my point. what I'm saying is that THIS is sport. it's not meant to compete for effectiveness in real combat. what u r saying is more like "Hey, why don't they just use their hands? it's dumb!" while watching a soccer game.
Plus boxing stance leaves groin open enough for people who train with groin kicks/stricks to lower abdoman.
u r still not seeing it as a "SPORT". u r still trying to make a connection between sport tkd and self-defense. besides, it's possible to apply tkd techniques for more practical situation. but that doesn't mean u have to fight in more practical way when you are sparing in tkd rules. I switch between more than 2 different rules, and I have no problem with it. I also use my kick to knock off someone 40lbs heavier than me; tkd kicks can be effective.
It doesnt matter, you're not seeing my point. It's teaching you bad habits which will be recored into muscle memory via repetition. So when you're sparring someone else, they will take advantage of your mistakes and you will be own3d.
And lastly in the sport as u can see they keep their hands down which is stupid cause they get knocked out easier.
DUde your so full of it. TKD fighters are always thought to stay 50 50 in balance. If you think MT and Karate are so much better search serkan yilmaz or park yong soo and see how TKD does against other styles.
yeah they lose. Quit bringing up 2 people as if they speak for the entire style. The Majority have lost and its a light contact point sparring sport. Theyre "thought" they are in 50/50 balance, however they are "taught" to put most of the weight on the back leg as they are seen always leaning back on it while kicking as proof in this video right here. Easy prey for a sweep, low kick, shoot, etc. Theyre stance is also in a straight line. thats a no no
you're an ignorant....in point sparring they punch and the guy that hits first get the point...they lean back so they wont be reach by kicks...point fighters are fighters from all styles not just tkd...most tkd diciplenes fight with in tkd only a few tkd studios do open tournement point sparring....point fighters also punch..i know point fighters like raymond daniels and joey greenland that are knocking out more experienced kick boxers with point fighting technique..
you dont even know the difference between point sparring and tae kwon do sparring....i bet you dont even fight....you just open your mouth like every one else on line
dont assume. When you assume you make and "ass" out of yourself.
TKD sparring is just sport. only will work against other TKD who keep their hands down and stand on sa straight line. Against a well ranged MMA, they will get creamed.
And yes I have fought. In Kyokushin, Which has defeated many TKD numerous times
My instructor was a world champion in Kick boxing and he came out of a tkd camp. For your information tkd was created by japanese ppl in Korea after they Japanese invaded korea...they changed a couple of things to make it different from Japanese styles..most styles use the same kicks just name it different..it's not the style it's the fighter
In most training places, they only let you do point sparring~ well i dont know much about tae kwon do, because i went for Muay thai. Its not a bad choice :)
None of this is "self-defense" - it's sport pure and simple. Most martial artists completely confuse self-defense, sport, & "spiritual" arts resulting in a lack of clarity about what REAL violence is all about. Check out target focus training on the web if you want to learn something practical.
Yes TKD matches DO allow fist, it depends on what style you sutdy, ITH,WTF or point sparring, and No TKD IS NOT a kicking sport 70%kicks 30 % hands and in short taekwondo means way of the hands and feet.
they didnt get tired they tangled feet and kick each others foot making them limp away from each other i should know i do it all the time when i spar with my rival

tkd is useless. if you want to learn how to fight 1vs1 fights learn bjj. If u want to learn how to fight multiple people muay thai.

JUDO is a sport. But you can use all the techniques in Judo to defend yourself against a trained individual.
JUDO the SPORT unlike TKD, the SPORT, doesnt teach you BAD HABITS.
