I think people think to much about belt color. A black belt is considered by many as the first steps in the art. all colors before are just basics. Its not the belt but the knowledge and skill of the person wearing it. I dont like the system.
This makes me very, very, very sad. Their instructor needs to either find a new hobby or clean up his teaching tactics. Stop lying to these poor students. I'm sure they have loads of potential. Help them put it to work the right way.
@dciguy01 No it isn't, not at a good karate school anyway. I was never like that when i was a white belt, I didn't walk through my steps either. The instructor is terrible as he doesn't care about teaching karate in a good way, the students performance mirrors this. When I go for belt tests they don't allow cameras or any other people in apart from the students because this would put off people that are actually trying to earn their belts. This is typical of small kids, they shouldn't do karate.
@AyrtonSennaFan97 thanks for having the traditional view point. Martial arts is just going down hill for the most part, all of these instructors coming out of the woodwork claiming to be grandmasters and rushing their students like this. you know, it used to be that a person wore their white belt until it TURNED black from their hard work and effort. Obviously, of this skill level, their belts wouldnt even be the slightest bit stained. I disagree with small kids not doing karate, they should.
@AyrtonSennaFan97 they should start very young, thats when everything really sinks in and takes root. its all in the instruction, however. I enjoy teaching 2-5 year olds very much. I have separate classes for 2-3 & 4-5 and then 6-14. It also depends on their size, maturity and skill level that they can be bumped up an age bracket, but never ever bumped over a rank or anything like that. like i said, the younger the better, but absolutely disciplined or it just doesnt work.. like this video shows
@imzeeclever1 I started karate when I was 6 and gave up after 6 months because I got bored of it, then I started up again last year and I'm doing well, looking back now I know that I never took it seriosuly and would not be prepared to work so hard to become a shodan because I was too young to understand the hard work and philospophy and to take it seriosuly. I am sure that after 6 months now I was far better than I was when I was back when I was 6 years old.
@AyrtonSennaFan97 everyone is different. I started when I was extremely young, under 2 years. But it all depends how we are as kids as well as how the instructor and even what art is being practiced in particular. Boredom with martial arts can occur for a number of reasons. I have some 4 year olds who take it more seriously than some of my adults!! (: keep up the training!!
When I see kids like that, I don't want to blame them I want to blame their teachers who obviously don't know a single thing about karate! This is pathetic. And it seems the worst it is the more people applaud!
Not enough power.

@imzeeclever1 This is to be expected for white belt children. No power, walking through steps, etc.

@AyrtonSennaFan97 I would argue that you are atypical (which is a good thing) of the molding.
