  • this is absolutely beautiful, my favorite instrumental of all time, and you play it so well.

  • perfect. i love this it's so eerie and moving.

  • duddeeeee help a tutorial would be so great. you're a great player! keep on!

  • TUTORIAL PLEASEEEEE ?!?!?! its so beautiful

  • please dude, im begging you to make a tutorial video of that, I know, I should jsut learn music theory, and trust me Im working on it, but itll take me way longer to transcribe that then it would for you to make a video on how to play this, trust me dude, it would be the only tutorial, and youd be helping so many people out there, and inspire so many people.

  • good cover, pity that not of an original though. It's done after sheet music of the concert version, which was in Japan, right?

  • i watch these as a way of learning but this guys not bad.

  • yeah man! you got it down. can you do a tutorial?

  • Do a tutorial, bro! Very well played.

  • @kellyfortune You think enough people would be interested in a tutorial?

  • @Rhaptapsody I'm sure enough elliott Smith fans who like tinkering around on the piano would! :)

but despite being a musical genius, Elliott Smith unfortunately wasn't THAT famous. Had a loyal fanbase and probably a God amongst hipsters, but that's it, so i doubt it'll be the most popular tutorial in the world. Would be cool though!

  • @Rhaptapsody YES I WOULD

  • @Rhaptapsody YES!

  • @Rhaptapsody I would be!

  • @kellyfortune Alright, you got me thinking about it. I might do one this week.

  • @Rhaptapsody thank you forward. for it. not done yet, to be honest... for me its enaugh that you just played it. tutorials kill the magic, but in this case i'll be gratefull.

  • beautiful cover.

  • @xfoggiiieex Thanks :)

  • @Rhaptapsody Wow! Impressive, very impressive! Great job u did playing this! Awesome! Keep up the good work and excellent piano playing! Very nice!

  • Wow!! I think this is the best cover of this song in Youtube, great job man!

  • Weird, this video is most popular with ladies from 45-54.

  • I liked this because:

    1) you did a superb job

    2) there is a book about Salvador Dali in the bookshelf

    3) you did a superb job

  • :'O

    :')

    :'D

  • @cocomolengo Lol. Thanks.

  • @Rhaptapsody hey, man, i cried watching your video. thank you so much <3

  • now play it again, this time like you're about to stab yourself in the heart.

ps i have the same dali book 83

  • great job on this, seriously i salute you. and sorry for morons who think your elliott smith? not gonna happen..

  • @sh83982 Thanks man, I appreciate that. And I'm not too worried about that guy; he doesn't appear to be very smart.

  • Oh my God. I"ve watched this like 7 times in a row now.

  • @charlesobama You appear to be an idiot. You might want to work on that.

  • @paintingangels this person stole the video and is pretending to play it !!!!!!!!!!!! talk about idiotic

  • @charlesobama lol. The one in that video is Elliot Smith playing. So I'm going to take your inability to tell my version apart from his as a huge compliment.

  • @Rhaptapsody its not, they are the same. noob

  • @charlesobama congratulations!

  • you have the facial expressions of either 1) a model 2) a stoner 3) twilight vampire ... but great playing!

  • do you have a sheet music for this? would you be willing to share? =)

  • do a tutorial, man! I wanna learn this. I play a little (badly) by ear, as per my vids, but find it easier if i can see peoples hands.

Anyway, well done. Lovely song played well.

  • i like the nonchalant hand movement to finish it off

  • @MegaSpaghett Yeah, I almost forgot to do that part.

  • very good, I'm very impressed

  • awesome

  • beautiful. i wish i could play the piano. im so jealous that elliott was able to play several different instruments and excel at them all.

this is very well done by the way. jealousss (once again.)

  • Beautiful. I don't suppose you have the sheet music for this?

  • Really well played. And a great haunting choice to upload. Do you play any other Elliot Smith?

I'd love to have a go at this one - but play by ear - so i'll have to watch your fingers in reverese!

  • Such a charming piano tune...

  • @cachacets It most certainly is.

  • Hahaha! I just realized the awesome look you have on your face at 1:38

  • @HerrSchlau Yep, that's my awesome face.

  • Very good job bud

  • @kozzy420420 Why thank you.

  • Amazing. I love this! Can you send me this? I sent you a PM with my email. And also, I subscribed. :D

  • @qwedgeonline12 Hey, thanks new subscriber/friend. I can certainly send it to you if you like, but do you mean the sheet music, the video, or the audio?

  • this is ace - i love this track .. do you actually have the sheet music? where did you find it? can u buy it from somewhere...

  • a lot of people use the following: google 'steedoc' and you should be able to get a copy.

  • @bezkonca shinesinpines is right. I couldn't remember the name. If you can't find it, you can give me your email and I'll send you my copy.

  • wow man, any chance you have the sheet music for this?

  • @triggerhappy19 Sure thing. If you want to give me your email in a message, I can send it to you.

  • over 2000! :D

  • Great cover :)

  • Thanks :)

  • oh! this is really good, one of the top covers i've seen for this song :)

  • Hey, thanks. It took me a while to get my head around this one. The chords are strange, and figuring out how to make it all flow together took some effort. It's a great song though.

  • amazing job, and amazing quality. love it. :)

  • Thanks. I love this song.

  • Really well played, even, clear flowing and good balance between the hands.

  • That was AMAZING!! I've just started to learn piano and it'll probably be years before I can do that! Good job, Sir!!

  • Thank you very much. You'd be surprised though. If you practice often and you practice right, it won't take all that long.

  • Say, when you get into the part where you're play chords with a single note between, my teacher told me I shouldn't have to raise my fingers off the piano at all...didn't explain how. Any advice?

  • Do you mean the fingers that aren't being used are lifting off the keys? If that's the case, it means that all the muscles in your hand are tightening, rather than just the ones you need to use. Pay a lot of attention to the overall profile of your hand and wrist, and make sure you don't feel any tension when you hit that chord. I think I actually tend to drop my wrist a little for that part, because it helps my fingers line up a little better. Hope that helps.

  • Seems to be the case. The more I practice the more my hands sort of rest. Thankya.

  • IM IN LOVE

  • :-)

  • Guess I should read comments before I comment. I am working through this right now and am having trouble with the subtleties.

  • Thanks. And yes, as I guess you figured out, I did use stee_doc's transcription. Overall it's pretty good, but I did make a few changes, just to make it sound a little more like the album version of the song. The song is a bit tough at first, but you'll get it. Once you get it about up to tempo all those odd chords sound right, and the song starts feeling good.

  • Bravissimo! Great job, nice pace.

Did you use stee_doc's sheet for this?

  • *****I like that. How do you like the Modern's Jazz Quartett "Blues on Bach"?

  • nice. it kind of sounds like this song and some of grizzly bear's stuff comes from the same influence? i love those eerie melodies

  • Yeah, in some ways Grizzly Bear does remind me a little of Elliott Smith. They are more recent, but they do have a little of that kind of sad, minimalist aesthetic.

  • very great

  • Amazing job! Do you have the music sheet, or tab, or whatever?

  • Hey, thanks. If you're looking for the music, I think there are a few transcriptions floating around, but you can find the one I used if you just google "steedoc". That version comes from some live performances he did, so it's a little different than the album.
