After Dire Straits did the song "Money For Nothing" which had a few jabs at MTV and some of the artists they pushed, MTV responded by not only banning Dire Straits from MTV but calling radio stations and trying to get them yanked there too, pressuring them not to play Dire Straits music.

MTV also contacted concert promoters and tried to sabotage and tours Dire Straits tried to book.

MTV had no sense of humor, and dissed on a good band.
