These were actually pretty good by today's standards. If you keep the bearings oiled every year, they'll last forever. The problem is that the bearings get dry, and cling to the shaft then spin in the plastic housing.
It looks a little bit like the Super Electric 20'' Box fan that have been sold at CanadianTire for a long time. But the Super model got wider Bananas blades. The Super model is originally Ivory tinted with a brown cabinet also with the dangerous pointed corners and a rubber handle.
We had a Lasko version of this from 1984. Same identical cabinet/motor mount, same plastic motor. Same blade set. Unfortunately, it only lasted about 2 years. That was when we got those brown and tan Lakewood 223s.
That aside, I just love the way the motor mount looks and the badge in the middle on these fans.
Thanks! I like these too, but i wouldnt use this particular one everday, fearing that the motor will overheat and burn out. So I'm hoping to preserve this one, and use it on random fun occasions. I just love the look on the hub on this blade set, and same with the Galaxy logo on the center. :)
I have a similar fan made by galaxy. It has no center badge, one hole in the hub, and a different motor that resembles the ones on older lakewoods. Also, the blades on it are gray.
those were pretty cool fans, but those plastic motors were crap, good for only 2 or 3 seasons at most, that was the beginning of trash era, which we still have. a friend of mine purchased that same model new in 82, and it went up in smoke in the first month.
Nice fan! My parents actually still have the model just after this one. Has one slot in the hub and no Galaxy badge on the grille. Same plastic motor.
Be very careful if you decide to remove that spring clip as they are pretty stout and it takes a lot of force to compress them. EVERY one I have taken off a Lasko has slipped off the jaws of the pliers and went flying. Could easily damage your eye.
The motor housings on this fan are plastic. Some are black plactic and some are clear plactic.
Right around 1985 to 1987 was when that fan was brand new. The next model had two changes to it. The center hub only had one long vent in the front and the clamp was inside the hub like the lakewoods have theirs.
As for the motor? Just keep it free from dust build up and it should be fine.
Thank you. now i just got to pay attention to the motor. something i didnt mention on this video is the one of the galaxy Box Fan my parents had died after continious use in the basement venting out stale air. it ran high for days then it started to slow down, then it died.
nice Galaxy i have the almost same one the motor braces are diffrant. but you can oil them. and great video as well

My algebra teacher has one of these in his classroom. The motor supports on his are just two vertical bars.

I know someone who had one of these back in the 80's, it was a 3 speed. The motor was metal on that one though.
He also had a Lakewood P23. Unfortunately both fans were lost in a brush fire which burned the house down.
