hope i'm not too late in replying ur video and that u still have ur instrument with u. i also believed that you do not have rosin dust on your bow. you'll need to rub the rosin hard enough and of many times for the first time if you are playing from the new bow, on both sides. it's normal if the first time you play, the dust will fly all over.. =)
pm me if you need more instructions. have experience of 10 years of playing erhu here. =))
Yeah dude, take a key and hack the surface of the rosin up. Then rosin the crap out of the bow. You'll need to put heaps on there, to the point that while you're playing you get white rosin dust all over the place. Clean it up after you play though, it can be tough to get off if you leave it on there for too long..
I had the same problem with mine. I know it sounds silly but you might not have enough rosin on your bow. If it's a new bow it's harder to rosin and if there isn't enough it won't make noise.
i had same problem and i dont know what or how to hold it but try putting more rosin and tune the srtings if not. and yea u need more pressure on the srtings and aslo how r u going ton learn erhu
Your hold on the bow doesn't look correct. Google for a diagram of how to correctly hold an erhu bow. You have to supply the erhu bow with tension from your fingers.
@dragon4117 it is an erhu. not zhonghu or gaohu. all comes in different shapes, round, 6-sided, 8-sided, and of different material, you can have glass erhu, jade ones. you cant conclude that its not a erhu. but based on the video, the size is an erhu and that the sound it produced when not enough rosin is placed is definitely an erhu. cheers! =)
You need a lot more rosin on the bow when you use it for the first time. Plus the place where you hold the erhu is correct, but the angle is incorrect. You need to turn 60-70 degree to the right.

Definitely not enough rosin. If the rosin is new, you may have to rough up (ie sandpaper) the rosin surface a bit beforehand.

did you fix this problem? i also had this problem, i fixed it by rearranging where the bridge is and by fixing the strings somehow.

I also think you should apply more rosin. Try on a small section until it is dusting with rosin.

You mean turn the entire erhu to the right?
DemonicRabbit12 2 years ago
You hold your erhu so that the snake skin faces the front, which is not right. The skin should be faced relatively to your right side.

@DemonicRabbit12 i dont think thats an erhu, looks more like a zhonghu
its an erhu if it has 6side, a zhonghu if 8sides and gaohu if its round
as in the bottom part
anyways youre supposed to turn the whole thing to face your right and you need to apply rosin ALOT OF IT
