I really like muscle cars but to say in 1968 that a Charger was better than than this you would need to be drunk and on cocaine, a dumbass shit head right out of highschool could tell his mom and pop to pick him up a Charger for 6,000 , now i know inflation has hit us hard but in the 70s for a car of that power was REASONABLE price, and the Espada was a car for the rich, had better performance, and was a true gentlemens car.

Bet it cornered a lot better, braked better and was stable above 120mph, comparied to the Dodge musclecars which according to contemporary roadtests were pretty scary to drive at those speeds.

Watch Bullit to witness the fine handling of the Charger (I am being sarcastic), which was bad even by the standards of the 60's.

In the real world people use exotic cars more than just for stoplight drags.

@cuttlefisch I understand that the Monteverdi has a top speed of 240 kph and the Espada has a top speed of 260. But the Monteverdi is nevertheless a real stunner. There are other things that are more important to me than top speed or acceleration. Style never goes out of style

@buse67 : Considering the Monteverdi normally got 3 speed automatic transmission they have tested it with a 0-60 time of >9 sec and a top speed of 133 mph, both tested in 1975 from automotorsport in germany. I dont got any figures for the 4 speed manual version though. Road&track tested the Espadea 400GT in 1972 with 0-60 time fof 6,5 sec and a top of 158 mph. I think the Espada will always be a winner - especially when it comes to style.

I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Sports Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Mercedes vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps the cabs and injectors clean as new!

@buse67 too much oil (or a low quality one) and it will stick to the valves so they may become dirty and may not close properly or not move at all. look inside a two stroke engine exhaust to see what I mean.

these cars are gorgeous, they had all the amenities that most car wouldnt see until many years later, electric windows, four wheel disc brakes,air conditioning and so forth, i saw one at a wendys one time, just parked out there, it was white and it looked like it had a few miles on it, i would never buy a car just to keep it in a garage, cars are meant to be driven,not abused but driven
