@Feijoada1 Actually, please review this video on how EA Sports does their games. They have ONE person do ALL animations. How would you like one person recreating your favorite fighters? Guess what? If he can't do it then don't expect it to be in the game. OR you can look at Madden and the motion shifting that happens when an animation simply wasn't put in because the ONE person couldn't do that animation.
@ASPunisher12 uhhhhhhhhhhh they're making Motion captures of nearly everyone they're putting into the game. They also state that they're making every Fighter an individual rather then being a fighter with identical styles to one another. And also the EA Guys actually got the feel to train with the likes of Jacare, Frank Shamrock, Cung Le etc etc to get more indepth with the game. Plus they do research on All their Fighters to determine strengths and weaknesses.

And what the Hell are you talking about with branching; the moves look awkward because they are not motion captured and the fighters do not move like themselves. Where's Anderson's crazy head sway? Oh wait everyone can do it. Because they programmed one dude to move like 100 fighters. It is NOT smooth.

@PeoplesChampion9050 Yeah durrrr even a basic fighting game like PS1's 3D Fighter Maker can give you the options of making or showing a karate kick different from a MT kick. The point is it don't look natural. 30fps and choppy sped up animation don't look real it looks like rock em sock robots. No way hand animated could look more real than motion capture are you nuts? Motion capture the ACTUAL FIGHTER. That's about as real as you can get.
@Feijoada1 No, you have no clue what the difference between the 2 and until I got into Kinesology and Fight Mechanics and started training in Muay Thai and Vale Tudo myself...I didn't know either...There are minor differences. For example...the joint torque force are at the hip in Muay Thai you whip the leg using your proprioceptive properties to guide where the kick is going...in Karate the joint torque force is created at the knee....even that was captured in Undisputed!
@Feijoada1 Before responding...go study some Kinesology and read up on some Fight Mechanics as well as learn what branching is and also before I finish...understand that motion capture is not very good in terms of visceral gameplay...its why Madden got away from it...its why NBA Live and 2K series got away from it...hell even wrestling games got away from motion capture...point being just because motion capture was used doesn't mean it will come out that way (ex. Gegard's leg kick)

@Feijoada1 Yes they did...that doesn't mean that will be accurately reflected in the game...it's extremely difficult to use motion capture for an analog stick input...and based off that I can say that the animations are improvised in a way...understand that the movement of the stick and the animation of strike have to move concurrently...so it is safe to assume that in order to recreate a fight you have to have some branching...if you don't, the gameplay will look choppy (ex. video above)

Moreover, I'm not talking about frame rate...I'm talking about the actual depiction of the technique...For example look at Gegard's leg kick...he excessively externally rotates his hip on his stance leg...and if you look at the recoil of his leg kick on the kick leg...he keeps his knee excessively flexed...highly unrealistic!

When you motion capture you capture particular motions. Which in turn are fragments of an arsenal of strikes. If you try to put that together it ends up not looking right...At least for today's standards.

EA Sports IS more realistic BECAUSE the actual fighters were INVOLVED in the making of the game in terms of each of them being motion captured as opposed to just a face scan and one 'actor' motion capturing all their moves!

this isn't actual gameplay, i think they just used the animations. the characters are untextured and there's no bone visible on the leg lock like you see in the other tech demo
the funny thing is that the "actual gameplay footage" of ea sports mma looks like the first trailer of ufc 2009 which wasnt even ingame footage. EA sports rules!!

0:38 to 0:44 is just amazing. The way aoki folds and melendez jumps on him with that punch is Pure AWSOMENESS. This game has the realism that UFC 2009 lacked. Cant wait to buy this game.

this games looks well good think of all the features they've gt i mean at 0:47 he throws aoki flying off him granted the striking looks abit stiff but they will sort that out and at 0:40 gilbert throws bombs and knocks aoki down and theres no transition between levels this game when polished up will be alot more fluid and will be better than ufc
0:40 (This here in its early stages still blows ufc:u's KOs and GnP)(Its fluid and you can damn well expect it to jump a mile+ ahead in terms of looks etc. when the game is done)

If you listen, they're explaining the tactics of each fighter. Left hook right, so they repeatedly use the tactic they're explaining. That's why they keep spamming the same shots. Just listen to the commentary.
@MOB712 I'd hope they'd elect not to put an alpha on TV since that would essentially be nothing but recycled code from EA's library... although if they re-used any of the code from Fight Night rd. 4 I can't see it. Unless they're committing development suicide and doing their motion capture in the last six months before release this game looks AWFUL.

I had hope for this game too, I thought with that first trailer with Fedor and Rodgers, it looked amazing and I thought the game would be amazing. In 2010 you can say striking is unrealistic beause its too fast , its like UFC 2009 Turbo edition. Corny, the slams & reversals were over the top ridiculous in 2009. Physics, you freeze when getting hit& it was very robotic..yes those physics were great

@Feijoada1 Actually, please review this video on how EA Sports does their games. They have ONE person do ALL animations. How would you like one person recreating your favorite fighters? Guess what? If he can't do it then don't expect it to be in the game. OR you can look at Madden and the motion shifting that happens when an animation simply wasn't put in because the ONE person couldn't do that animation.

@ASPunisher12 uhhhhhhhhhhh they're making Motion captures of nearly everyone they're putting into the game. They also state that they're making every Fighter an individual rather then being a fighter with identical styles to one another. And also the EA Guys actually got the feel to train with the likes of Jacare, Frank Shamrock, Cung Le etc etc to get more indepth with the game. Plus they do research on All their Fighters to determine strengths and weaknesses.

And what the Hell are you talking about with branching; the moves look awkward because they are not motion captured and the fighters do not move like themselves. Where's Anderson's crazy head sway? Oh wait everyone can do it. Because they programmed one dude to move like 100 fighters. It is NOT smooth.

The point is it don't look natural. 30fps and choppy sped up animation don't look real it looks like rock em sock robots. No way hand animated could look more real than motion capture are you nuts? Motion capture the ACTUAL FIGHTER. That's about as real as you can get.

@Feijoada1 No, you have no clue what the difference between the 2 and until I got into Kinesology and Fight Mechanics and started training in Muay Thai and Vale Tudo myself...I didn't know either...There are minor differences. For example...the joint torque force are at the hip in Muay Thai you whip the leg using your proprioceptive properties to guide where the kick is going...in Karate the joint torque force is created at the knee....even that was captured in Undisputed!

@Feijoada1 Before responding...go study some Kinesology and read up on some Fight Mechanics as well as learn what branching is and also before I finish...understand that motion capture is not very good in terms of visceral gameplay...its why Madden got away from it...its why NBA Live and 2K series got away from it...hell even wrestling games got away from motion capture...point being just because motion capture was used doesn't mean it will come out that way (ex. Gegard's leg kick)

@Feijoada1 Yes they did...that doesn't mean that will be accurately reflected in the game...it's extremely difficult to use motion capture for an analog stick input...and based off that I can say that the animations are improvised in a way...understand that the movement of the stick and the animation of strike have to move concurrently...so it is safe to assume that in order to recreate a fight you have to have some branching...if you don't, the gameplay will look choppy (ex. video above)

Moreover, I'm not talking about frame rate...I'm talking about the actual depiction of the technique...For example look at Gegard's leg kick...he excessively externally rotates his hip on his stance leg...and if you look at the recoil of his leg kick on the kick leg...he keeps his knee excessively flexed...highly unrealistic!

When you motion capture you capture particular motions. Which in turn are fragments of an arsenal of strikes. If you try to put that together it ends up not looking right...At least for today's standards.

this games looks well good think of all the features they've gt i mean at 0:47 he throws aoki flying off him granted the striking looks abit stiff but they will sort that out and at 0:40 gilbert throws bombs and knocks aoki down and theres no transition between levels this game when polished up will be alot more fluid and will be better than ufc

People don't realise that THIS IS WHAT MAKES A MMA GAME.
0:09 (The head moving while being beat on)
0:40 (This here in its early stages still blows ufc:u's KOs and GnP)(Its fluid and you can damn well expect it to jump a mile+ ahead in terms of looks etc. when the game is done)
1:08 (What more do i have to say. Its a freaking leg check, that just adds another level of realism and depth...also foots stomps too btw.)
This can only get better.(Hand speed, even MORE fluidity etc.)

Ppl are saying the kicks and punching looks robotic, yes i know but they not even done the game yet. If they fix the robotic kicks and punches this game is gonna be really good.

@Fernt until you've played it you can' say anything. im getting both ufc 2010 and ea mma. I want to be able to do stomps and fight in dream and fight for various orgs.
Ufc will be good too, but they havn't really done much in improvements, theyve added things they should have last year. south paw... mo-capping everyone. why didn't they do that last year?
end of the day its a never ending battle. and im going to enjoy both instead of moaning

@milkeyUK I can tell a lot from the animations i've seen. Did you see the one where gilbert melendez defends a flying armbar by just tossing shinya aoki across the ring?
You can tell from these trailers that dana white was right when he said EA had no interest in MMA and didn't believe it was real sport until UFC undisputed sold a million billion copies.
Besides that, it just looks awful.
Enjoy both, if you wish. I will enjoy EA MMA if the demo blows me away but otherwise I'll save my money.

I can see some good things, like :31 and :42 but they shouldn't have released this so early in production. It gives off the impression that this is how the game will. Not everybody follow the games like some of us
I'm getting UFC 2010 first day of release, but I'll wait for the EA demo to decide if I'll purchase. I want this to succeed because competition is good fun us

@REALGTAIV yea i know, they have alot of work, and its or ready has better engine than ufc 2010, its just not smooth and its stiff. but theirs more things that can happen for example 0:40 and 0:09, the guy is actually getted rocked from the punches and when he gets punched his gaurd goes down. its looks so fricking good. i dont know why ppl dont like it. ppl automaticlly look at how smooth it is. they will fix it.

If you listen, they're explaining the tactics of each fighter. Left hook right, so they repeatedly use the tactic they're explaining. That's why they keep spamming the same shots. Just listen to the commentary.

The first trailer looked amazing. Second looked meh. Third looked bad. This is just sad.

@MOB712 I'd hope they'd elect not to put an alpha on TV since that would essentially be nothing but recycled code from EA's library... although if they re-used any of the code from Fight Night rd. 4 I can't see it. Unless they're committing development suicide and doing their motion capture in the last six months before release this game looks AWFUL.

I had hope for this game too, I thought with that first trailer with Fedor and Rodgers, it looked amazing and I thought the game would be amazing. Hopefully their game will get better, but I don't know.

@XxDEFTONESxX Its Pre Alpha, things are always being tweaked & change this early in development. Thats why its still in pre Alpha & not Beta. And he wasnt pulling guard, he was attempting a flying armbar.
In 2010 you can say striking is unrealistic beause its too fast , its like UFC 2009 Turbo edition. Corny, the slams & reversals were over the top ridiculous in 2009. Physics, you freeze when getting hit& it was very robotic..yes those physics were great

3.The physics in EA MMA are laughable, did you see Gil throw Aoki 10 feet in the air & those punches; those were the most unrealistic strikes I have ever seen in a video game!

@muchohumptyhump 1) I've never landed 20 head kicks in a row because by that time my opponent would be out...if you land a head kick clean in 09 and 2010, it at least drops the person. 2)You're nit-picking, Undisputed isn't perfect but at least I admit that...you can't even admit this looks like shit. 3)What's dumb about the slams!(details) 4)When hunching over, you're dropping you center of gravity...providing more stability so that you can maintain your position on the ground!

@jnieves77 Dude, if you read what I am replying to...you will see that the user was trying to suggest that THQ was trying to erase competition and good games from existence also making the suggestion that EA Sports is not guilty of that.They clearly are guilty of that...EA Sports is the leader in sport video games because they have gained the licenses to many organizations creating a monopoly which is why they can say that Also, I buy EA Sports games...I just don't see this one being that good.
