Episitomies are rarely truly necessary and are often preformed because we live in a technocratic society in which many doctors feel the need to be doing something to assist in some way. Vaginas will rarely tear on their own and episotomies are typically meant to be preventative "solutions" that encourage women and their families to abide by this technocratic model. No wonder health care is so expensive. We are paying for things we don't actually need.
im glad i made the decision to never have kids. 1-the pain is not worth it 2- i started hating when i was about 11 or so 3- the risk of complications are too high. if i ever end up preggo, im going right to the abortion option without hesitation.
@jman6866 i will never have kids of my own. i dont have the patience for any of it. before birth with the way my diet is, the kid would of ended up with serious problems. and during and after birth? not going through that pain because i have zero tolerance for pain. know my reasons before criticizing why i will never have kids and why i cant stand them.
I have to say that I personaly was one of those cases where I had to have an episiotomy. On top of them giving me the episiotomy I was one of those rare cases that tore all the way to my anus. i had to get so many stiches from my vaginal area to my anus. They were stiches that desolve and my recovery was so painful..hard to sit down or use the ladys room...it took along time for me to recover. it wasn't your average 3 to 6 weeks. my personal pregnancy experience was pretty ruff...
@tsmith0312- tearing is rather painful, i tore with my son and lost a lot of blood, 2 inches outside and from the opening up to my cervix, i had to get 74 stitches altogether... five minutes after he came out I was up and walking (had to, he was born unexpectedly in the house), i can't wait to have another baby, i loved being pregnant and giving birth as the only pain i felt was the paramedic standing on my toe lol
Oh my god... hell no i am not having anything that big coming out a little hole in my body and i am not cutting anything except my hair and nails.... if i ever get pregnant C- section is the way to go for me .. no need for unnecessary pain if i still get the baby
@misschik93 - a c-section isn't always the road to go...only if necessary due to complications. Think about it...the doctor is cutting your abdomon to get a baby out...it can be harder to recover from a c-section (some women) I know women who recovered well after a c-section. Others I know did not. I have one daughter and another daughter on the way. With my 1st baby I did not have to have an episitomy, but I did tear from the inside. I got about 5 stitches, however, I healed very well. :-)
what i learned from watching birth information videos: giving birth to a child is a horrible horrible thing to do. do not ever think of having children!
I'd rather be cut. Because just letting it tear is waaay more painful! You cannot actually feel this cut till afterwards. but at least you know that you didnt tear and it will heal a lot better and faster. I only watched it to see what it was exactly..
@babyblue4559 - I heard tearing is very painful because you can tear to your anus. I tore, but I tore from the inside....lost a lot of blood, however, I recovered very well and my stitches healed very quickly. I was up walking that very day after getting stitches....not far...just to the bathroom. I'm praying with this next pregnancy that I do not tear at all!
This is pretty much gential mutilation. It's not needed at all, a tear will heal better and if DRs got the woman of her back and upright she wouldn't tear (or tear badly). Informed consent is a crock because DRs just tell the woman the beneifits and not the cons of having this done and by the time you've given all the facts the womans pushed the baby out and didn't need it it done anyway.
I just wonder: how is it that the vagina is wide enough all along the passage for the baby to pass through and yet the opening can be too small? I thought it was the same width all the way along. This seems fishy to me; maybe they're not helping the woman relax properly and her skin is tightening from stress.
My friend refused to get that done and she healed in just about a week. She barely naturally tore which was great for her. She was happy she didn't get the episiotomy. Ugh, someday when I have kids, I'm never getting that done! I'll naturally tear tyvm.
@ashmarie88 When you let it tear by itself, there is a bigger chance that it wil tear all the way to the anus, and you don't want that. I would trust my doctor if he thinks the best option is an episiotomy.
@ashmarie88 Yeah, and then you´ll sue us if you have any complication like complete tearing to the anus (which needs tons of surgeries to be repaired). This is a reason why I hate people and love informed consentment.
yeah.... guys be happy your males you dont have to go through the crap we women have to go through time of the month birth you guys wouldnt last one day being a girl lol
@sarkerm2 yeah, surgeons do that so the expulsion of the babay will be easy! But it doesnt hurt at all because they are injecting local anesthesia. and they do episiorrhapy after.
@Butterscotch0193 you cannot tell me that viewing this you didn't think about your vagina being cut? Shit. Even typing that made my vagina hurt. Every female has a vagina. Quit being such a child. There was nothing wrong with my statement.
Try having an Episiotomy WITHOUT being able to allow time for the numbing medicine to kick in!

Don't want your vagina cut? Then stand up and have a long proper delivery! Sounds more natural than a freaky procedure to save your doctor's time.
