have watched this vid of yours a handful of times always swearing to myself i'd try a fender next time i was at the shop, yet never did.
was in today buying a pack of eb skinny top heavy bottoms, and decided to give one a try. the fender jazz on hand didn't suit my fancy.
but OMG i tried a squier fretless and i'm just blown away. the tone is superbly better than everything i own. quite sure i'll be picking one up soon, so thanks for steering me to an awesome purchase!
When you watch other videos of people covering songs, they're so uptight about it. Like they're practiced a thousand times, and HAVE to play it a certain way, or else they'll die or something. That's what I like about you and your videos, you're so laid back. You have FUN with it, and you're still fuckin great.
Where in shit's name can I buy a Wal? I can't find one on the internet anywhere. Except for one with like ten strings on it. What the heck am I going to do with ten strings? I can't even decide what to do with a fifth one.
brad dude i really wanna see you play some rush. you have the geddy lee fender jazz bass. all you gotta do is work on you're finger technique. i bet you'd be really good and i think you'd like it.
the wal was too blah for me. theres no crunch or bottom and it sounds too hollow...not that i don't like theyre work during the wal era, just i dont like the tone. he went back to the fender for more crunch and bottom. he said that his ricky had too much of one of the two and not enough of one...can't remember, but the J is geddy's favorite and mine too. im a fender person mushself. so think about playin some rush on youtube. try playin with the ricky :D
bro...have you played a wal? Dude let me start off by saying you are smoking GREAT crack if you think the jazz has more low end. That is laughable. And more crunch? Even more laughable. I don't know what Geddy's settings were on his wal but I can promise you the wal has more mid crunch and lows than the fender jazzz. Rick definitely lacks lows...why i sold mine
:O you sold it. damn. well your's and justin's wal are different than geddy's wal. listen to "the big money" by rush. its a good example of how it's not very clanky or crunchy its a very clean and kinda funky sound. i love wals...just not garrys.
I dont really know if you like their type of music, but i wanna see you do Paranoid Android by Radiohead for some reason xD i really like that song on bass
Nice, one of my favorite APC songs, i think the next cover you could do is Blue, its a great song, and the bass is well suited for the bass in the song.
Is that a bass APC uses lol? ehh either way its realllly nice. i know 2 of your other ones are basses tool used. man you must work your ASS off for that equipment lol.
oh wow sorry hah. for some reason i didnt see there was any other pages of comments on here. just assumed since this was like first day of this beeing up it wouldnt have 4 pages of comments, lol ima shut the fxck up now as you probley dont feel like reading a ton of long comments lol, anyway thanks for putting these [and other vids] up on youtube to help fellow tool fans =D
try adding a period to finish a sentence once in a while! and: after you wrote the comment, how about reading it again to yourself and then taking out the stuff that doesn't need to be said?
amazing cover... i didnt enjoy the video as much as your other covers though.. the backing track was covered by the bass.. but still brilliant as usual!!
this is great, i've been watching your vids for a long time, and i really like seeing you playing apc! are you planning on doing "the hollow" by any chance?
I know you work with the guys over at tooltabs and i think it's awesome that you're on youtube showing us all the bass parts. I wanted to know if the guy who tabbed all of the drum parts to the songs would get on youtube too. that would be great. hope to hear back from you.
Go for it. Jazz basses are worth every penny. They sound amazing for ANY type of music in my opinion. Remember Friends don't let friends not buy a Fender. =)
I actually like my tone better than Jeordie's...He plays on a fender precision and this is a fender jazz. He has a little more low end and the jazz has more mid range crunch.....I like it alot. :)
The Geddy Lee is amazing, and so is this song. i spend hours with both of them, yet oddly enough i haven't learned to play this song on the Geddy Lee....wtf? lol

Hey man, what tuning do they use for this song? It sort of sounds like D or maybe even C#?
Woo7845 4 years ago
ALL APC is C#, F#, B, E
TOOLbassplayer 4 years ago
Ah thanks man.
Woo7845 4 years ago
so you tuned your bass to C# F# B E with a normal string gauge? Or do you have thicker strings than 45-105 on this bass? Maybe 50-115?
ibanez400 4 years ago
normal strings...45-105
TOOLbassplayer 4 years ago
K. Cuz it sounds great with a bit of rattling on the frets ^^
Thanks for the info. Tuning my 5-String B to C# is too risky i think (because of too high tension)
ibanez400 4 years ago
It wouldn't hurt it, it would sound a lot tighter, but may loose some timbre and you may need to adjust your intonation.
fingerboy18 4 years ago
Dude you could just leave the B alone and tune the 4 others to the right tuning and play on those.
Woo7845 4 years ago
lol wut? its only a 4 strin bass dude
