She was an awful actress, but she didnt need to know how to act. She was a Star, her charisma, glamour, attitude, and that she was the mos beautifull woman in the planet, compensate that. Stars dont need to know how to act, they are something else. Even though i am a folower of great actors like Brando or Sir Laurence, this hollywood stars like Marilyn or Liz Taylor were people that give cinema a special touch. Sinatra, what a voice the only people who can be compare are Tonny Bennet and Elvis
According to Donald O'Connor and others who worked with her Marilyn was her act not who she was. Yes, she had substance abuse issues and probably untreated mental issues as well. Others have said that she was very funny, sweet, smart, compassionate and down to earth. It depended on the time you worked with her as to her mental health and use of prescription drugs.
People make it sound like that she was an depressive woman that was never free and bla bla bla... Well what i see is a woman who loved herself and her job and the depressive part does not come to my mind at all. I mean we all have our ups and downs thats just part of life. And what she showed us was that we have to love ourselves if we want to love others. No suicidal thoughts there! What a negative perception.
Most of you folks are so sweet and well meaning to Marilyn's life, legend and tragically untimely demise. You MUST understand, however, that she DID NOT commit suicide! She was at a very hopeful, exciting, and pivotal place in her life. She had just agreed to re-marry the only man she was ever truly in Love with. He GOT her, like no one else, being one of the world's first superstars in his own right. Joe DiMaggio did his job and went home to be a regular guy.
@MM...perhaps you see some aspect of YOURSELF in Marilyn? I still see the freckle-face farm girl as well as a comedic genius and sensitive soul. She was typecast as a sexy, empty-headed bombshell and denied intelligent roles. Who placed the value you describe onto her?
What I do like is that the system liked her even though she doesn't look half starved. I do see Norma Jean in this, the playful girl in the pool. I think she is very natural there.
People can pick all they like but how many have had the "staying power" after 50 years following her untimely {and suspicious] death, just like Elvis,so many imitators but nothing can match the original.
nothing special to me.. seems like people hold her to such high avail cause she was the first blonde bimbo to appear on television. lol (no offense)..
But I think it is incredible that she was able to prove the world that she was fabulous despite her past. It's hard to have that kind of confidence when you grew up with that background. That's what's wonderful about her.
yea. it's not new for usa and for some it's mental friends to use girls as an sex object. olllddd story. this is what they call civilisation and women rights. pure people.
even though the movie "somethings got to give" was never finished, I think it should be remembered as one of the top movies of all time. Think about it: Marilyn Monroe , stark naked , giggling and prancing around the poolside, while literally dozens of photographers were snapping photos as fast as they could replace their flash bulbs, doesn't that make you so proud to be an American you could just cry ?

for god's sake, these are screen tests for all i can tell. how can you critisize them for unnatural behaviour. If I'm wrong - I wanna know what the hell is that weird movie.
It sucks and is truly sad how the world went from having amazing real beautiful stars like her as the famous people to the crap fake talentless shit people we have now. Like what the HELL happened to Hollywood?? :’(
@tdaflame what are you talking about, I love Marilyn as much as the next person, but she wore loads of make-up she's even quoted to say that herself.. she was full of makeup haha
She's so trained to appeal to people in a natural way that it became her nature. but that effort restrains the extend of how natural she really can be. Cause she's never free. Fuck the system that only loves you when youre pretty and smiling.
A beauty that exuded irresistible charm on celluloid. Unfortunately Marilyn was plagued with insecurities, lack of self worth and a deep and impending fear to be doomed to falling prey to mental illness as her mother had. Others have tried to capture her elusive persona always falling short...there was only one Marilyn who captured the hearts of both sexes with her beauty, woman/child like charm and innocence. What a gift her films are to the film watching public!
When I look at Marilyn, I see someone who never knew herself. I see a desperation for approval. I see emptiness. I see someone who places the whole of her value upon her appearance. I see her sadness and her mask. But I do not see Norma Jean. Rest in peace, Norma Jean... may you now know and accept your Self.
@MolecularMoonlight i know..it seems people only really knew her and try to emulate her simply because she was an "icon" and a sex symbol but not really going past that. Like who was she really behind closed doors? I must apologize i do not know much about marilyn or norma besides the fact she was gorgeous, probably had many partners, was an actress and died of an overdose. i feel people only tend to focus on and celebrate the glamorous side of her life in posters and videos and not Norma Jean.
@MolecularMoonlight Marilyn knew EXACTLY who she was, but in the old Hollywood system, she had to fight every little detail... listen for example to her last interview, you can find that here on Youtube...
@MolecularMoonlight Wow!....trying seeing with your heart, spirit, and soul...and you may just spot Norma Jean......she's impossible to miss actually!!. You are looking in all the wrong places....
@Bowie101Girl That's because sizes ran alot smaller back then, a 14 would be like today's size 10. And sometimes she would gain and then loose weight.
she wasnt natural blonde thus her image of cute but little silly woman is completely wrong. She has been very intelectual and her poses deeply studied to seduce. She was amazing
Where in the holy hell do you go to college? Because either you're making the most ludicrous statement in history or I have to see if my credits will transfer.
@FamilyGuyRS Marilyn Monroe was beautiful in her day, I am sure there are many people more beautiful people in your collage, but that is your opinion. She is what men found attractive generally in Marliyn's time, you will find people who are more modern attractive as this is what your generation find beautiful!:)
@minkyrules Frank Sinatra believed that he had become impotent because of excessive sex, sex failures and heavy drinking. He believed sexually he had become useless. But by fluke one early morning he saw marilyn naked standing before a mirror. And lo ! He came to know he still can score many milestones.
@minkyrules Because you say that she was not that gorgeous. Marilyn had the most beautiful skin in the world. Her skin colour was ivory white and if she stood in a crowd of 1000 woman one could easily find out who was the most beautifful woman in the crowd i.e Marilyn Monroe. And if an impotent man can become potent seeing a woman's beauty I don't believe she is not gorgeous. Though you may be right because beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
@minkyrules In my opinion that is (i.e. you are not a man) is possibly one of the reasons why you don't find Marilyn gorgeous. Many times a woman's beauty is better judged and seen in right perspective by only men. I am a 65 years old man and know MM right from 1960. I have seen million beauties but never found one who can beat MM but as I have already said beauty lies in the eyes of beholder
@amscia i am not a man and I think Marilyn was the most beautiful woman ever. I am a big fan of her movies. She was a good actress IMO and a lot of people were critical of her. She did not have an easy life. Just because someone is a movie star doesn't mean there life is easy ... but this is only my opinion.
@minkyrules Sometimes the most physically perfect woman that ever existed, then again sometimes perfectly ordinary. Like all people it was not her body but the way she used it- her spirit- that made her exceptional. She had an array of gestures and mannerisms that pulled you in like a whirlpool. Over time these could seem mechanical, when she was tired or we just saw them too often. Ultimately it was all about the camera, how it loved her so. There never was a bad picture of Marilyn.
@minkyrules She lived back in the day where photoshop and plastic surgery weren't put into play as much. Megan Fox might be gorgeous to most of the people these days, but marilyns beauty and sex appeal was natural unlike most celebrities these days.
@BlueLeopard200 You are missing the point in her ambiguity. Don't forget she was an actor of a very different time. They did not have the freedom or wealth of choice others enjoy today. Then they were treated like slaves and under contract to do whatever movies they were ordered to make! She did try to gain independence via Marilyn Monroe productions circa 1950's...the first female actress to set up her own production company and try to choose roles for herself. Not an idiot in my book. :-)
'Who killed Marilyn Monroe?'...an eternal question. It took 36 years for Norma Jean to carry out the assasination of MM. A long valiant, painful but beautiful struggle. She simply was ready to go. No murder. No threat. She just wanted peace and to be left alone. People could not accept her in life...lets please take her at her word in death. 'Please don't make me look like a joke' MM R.I.P xxX
90% matter about MM on internet is false and fabricated lies. The lies, false stories and her character assassination were started by that gay pervert Hoover and his mafia friends to divert public attention from the truth. James Jesus Allington was Dy Chief of CiA Counter Intelligence who was responsible for killing both MM and Dorothy Kilgallen. Both Hoover and Allington found permanent place in hell fire where their bodies will continue to burn for eternity.
@bellejem07 Because she got information about JFK murder plot and the fascists group felt she will not keep quiet on such a sinister plot. And what do you think she was going to declare in that doomed press conference??? Her love affairs with Kennedys??? Marilyn was not idiot. She was going to disclose the details of that bizarre JfK murder plot.
@amscia I have researched JFK assassination for many years, first time I have heard this. She died several years before the President was assassinated. Can you tell me what source you heard this from??
@TakeBackAmerica2012 Marilyn was assassinated in Aug.,1962 and President was assassinated in Nov.,1963. Lot of links are available on internet regarding marilyns murder due to her getting information on JFK murder plot etc You may google search and get this information. I am not able to make out what you heard first time.
@amscia I ordered the book yesterday called The Assassination of Marilyn Monroe. Have you read it?? It was published in the UK because no publishers here would take it. All the reviews said it was a couldn't put it down type book, and very compelling.
I did read somewhere that before she was famous she would be hired as a "Party Girl" whose job was to drink and have sex with men at those famous parties they used to have in Beverly Hills, I don't know if thats true you can't believe everything you read, also read where Sinatra really put her down her all time and would call her Norma Jean sarcastically....
@mrlove1961 She also joined for a short time a group called "Free sex for food" . This was after her services were terminated by the Fox studio and she had no work for months. I still worship her and her fight for the existence in this cruel world.
@amscia That's interesting because I guess it was a common practice in those days, I also read where Nancy Regan had an arrangement with her studio whereby she stayed under contract in exchange for certain "services" she provided.
Who gives a shit if she bleached her hair? She's still a sexy, beautiful woman who actually had talent. Unlike most famous females now who are sticks and are only famous for being famous.
@LiizziieLushxo Once a journalist who had written lot of rubbish about MM in past wanted to interview MM. MM made her to wait for a long time. Therafter she came to the journalist and appologized for not giving her time because she had to give priority to making her hairs. And what hairs she was making. Her pubic hairs. A perfect lesson for a nasty journalist.
She remains an inspiration to all who strive lonely, to overcome personal obstacles with humor and determination for get the goal of achieving Greatness. M.M: Eternal Goddes
@johnfoxstone Your observation is perfect. I have rarely seen a woman who have faced such a mountain of difficulties and troubles and yet taking every thing in her stride and kept smiling while at the same time striving to achieve her goals.
People who know nothing about Marilyn Monroe bash her based on the modern-day socialite celebutante archetype, which is an unfair comparison. This was no talentless, reality show publicity hound like Kim Kardashian, or "famous just for being famous" heiress like Paris Hilton, or even washed-up troubled child actress like Lindsay Lohan. This was an actress who knew how to embrace what made her famous and worked it. Go watch one of her movies and meet her again for the first time.
@FarleyTube Don't say that about Lindsay washed up that is not nice to say because Marilyn like Lindsay was not very liked by the public at times you got to remember in a Marie Antoinette kinda way Lindsay Lohan is young and she is going to turn her life and around and Marilyn Monroe who was a positive person in real life not the sex symbol she played would agree with about poor Lindsay Lohan.
Seeing the beginning of this clip, I can see why they would cast Naomi Watts as Marilyn, but I really can't see anyone pulling Marilyn off very well :( she was one of a kind
She lived 10,000 lives in the short span of her celebrity life! Like Elvis, Belushi, Beatles and the others that lived fun, fast & hard! Millions & Millions of fans & followers and conditions, circumstances constraints contracts constantly hurled at you! We regular folk, have no clue what all that can be like! Most people would cook or blow up in ten minutes! At least these were able to enjoy the ride and go the distance of fame & fortune!
Damaged and abused women commonly find their self worth in sexual identity. But value from the outside is destined to fail. Lovely, sweet, sad woman. I love her singing voice and have greately enjoyed her movies. I would love to have seen her live long enough to grow, heal and mature. A loss.
As beautiful and wise as she was, she was severely depressed and towards the end of her life, was clearly not right in the head. Her life of fame ruined her and she hated it, what a tragedy.
I think Emma Watson is hotter!

@amscia why did they want to kill her?
bellejem07 1 month ago
@bellejem07 Because she got information about JFK murder plot and the fascists group felt she will not keep quiet on such a sinister plot. And what do you think she was going to declare in that doomed press conference??? Her love affairs with Kennedys??? Marilyn was not idiot. She was going to disclose the details of that bizarre JfK murder plot.
amscia 1 month ago
@amscia I have researched JFK assassination for many years, first time I have heard this. She died several years before the President was assassinated. Can you tell me what source you heard this from??
TakeBackAmerica2012 1 month ago
@TakeBackAmerica2012 Marilyn was assassinated in Aug.,1962 and President was assassinated in Nov.,1963. Lot of links are available on internet regarding marilyns murder due to her getting information on JFK murder plot etc You may google search and get this information. I am not able to make out what you heard first time.

@amscia I ordered the book yesterday called The Assassination of Marilyn Monroe. Have you read it?? It was published in the UK because no publishers here would take it. All the reviews said it was a couldn't put it down type book, and very compelling.

I did read somewhere that before she was famous she would be hired as a "Party Girl" whose job was to drink and have sex with men at those famous parties they used to have in Beverly Hills, I don't know if thats true you can't believe everything you read, also read where Sinatra really put her down her all time and would call her Norma Jean sarcastically....
mrlove1961 1 month ago
@mrlove1961 She also joined for a short time a group called "Free sex for food" . This was after her services were terminated by the Fox studio and she had no work for months. I still worship her and her fight for the existence in this cruel world.
amscia 1 month ago
@amscia That's interesting because I guess it was a common practice in those days, I also read where Nancy Regan had an arrangement with her studio whereby she stayed under contract in exchange for certain "services" she provided.

Who gives a shit if she bleached her hair? She's still a sexy, beautiful woman who actually had talent. Unlike most famous females now who are sticks and are only famous for being famous.
LiizziieLushxo 1 month ago
@LiizziieLushxo Once a journalist who had written lot of rubbish about MM in past wanted to interview MM. MM made her to wait for a long time. Therafter she came to the journalist and appologized for not giving her time because she had to give priority to making her hairs. And what hairs she was making. Her pubic hairs. A perfect lesson for a nasty journalist.

FarleyTube 2 months ago 109
@FarleyTube Don't say that about Lindsay washed up that is not nice to say because Marilyn like Lindsay was not very liked by the public at times you got to remember in a Marie Antoinette kinda way Lindsay Lohan is young and she is going to turn her life and around and Marilyn Monroe who was a positive person in real life not the sex symbol she played would agree with about poor Lindsay Lohan.

A loss.
