Why a latino women statement... Why not say an individual... Whatch what u say and what u do. One has to be objective and impartial in order to render a sound and lawful decision.
If a male white judge uttered the same"inspiring words" that Sotomayor spoke, he would be deemed a racist and there would be marches and protests to get him removed from his position. She knew exactly what she meant by her statement. But the sad thing is that there are always double standards in the country when it comes to who can speak "inspiring words" without consequence.
If a white judge uttered the same "inspiring words" that Sotomayor did, he would sound ridiculous. Most often than not(I am not adopting a percentage system here) the victims of racism in this country had been those of the colored communities. There had been discrimination in school, in the employment arena, social life and every part of the society. So, it would be non-sensical for a white male to say anything close to that...should he be using the same context as she did.
True, but I think most can agree that many believe that it is somewhat acceptable or it is someone's earned right to speak in a way that would be deemed racist if it was spoken by someone else. Its nonsense. Without a doubt, a double standard exists. Racists come in every skin color. Some are just allowed to speak freely without consequence. That is the problem.
