  • This is one of the best Chuck Berry songs that Chuck didn't write or sing. I'd throw in "Katmandu" as well.

  • @tattoofu Yeah, it's pretty much just Tulane with different lyrics, ain't it?

  • i wish they named this song "that time i tripped acid and got away from the police with my friends''

  • I heard on Kasey Kasem's radio show years ago, that when they recorded this, the boys went in, sat down and rocked it out. They tried two more takes and couldn't get it any better.. ..that's what we hear when we listen to this song. Can you imagine, the first take.. ..stunning.

  • @intruder45then46 Beatles did it on Twist and Shout too

  • @gotama420

The Colorado State Police confiscated it for, well, you know.

  • I've often wondered if Bob could still sing this. Can't find any recent videos of him doing this song. Consider that a challenge, Mr. Seger

And while I'm at it, how about re-issueing "Mongrel" & "Back In '72"?

  • @hattrick58 I think Back in 72 was his best album.

  • This ROCKS!! Bob Seger at his rockin' best!!

  • Hear what your saying about chuck! But Muddy was before Chuck.

  • I grew up in Denver and got out. God Bless Bob Seger!

  • It's the first time I've heard this, though I've seen the title in various music magazines etc.

John Denver should have recorded it!

  • Rock us Bob! I've loved Bob Seger for decades now and the love just gets stronger! Love me some Old time Rock and Roll...and nobody does it like Bob Seger. Can't sleep until I've been to Katmandu with him and Gotten out of Denver with him! Thought we were gonna tear down that new stadium in St. Louis years ago when he lit us up like the fourth of July! Can anybody light you up like Bob Seger? LOL

  • Great rock and roll song, Denver, San Fran, Saint Louis, where ever!

  • "dong down here...." ? Didn't know Denver was that close to San Francisco....

  • Who's the guitar player ?

  • drew abbott

  • i live near denver and we love this dong down here

  • @killer2504

You love Bob Segar's dong? Is it hairy??

  • @duanerichardson... I would say it probably was, but I dont know why killer2504 and the people he refers to as "we" would be so fixated on such a thing.

  • Why does it always have to be about Bob Segers dong ? Just enjoy the music !

  • @killer2504 I live in Denver and I want the hell out of here. Do you really "love this dong"?

  • sounds like johnny b goode.

  • I love this song. Sounds like a wild night!

  • great tune!! check out Dave Edmunds version!!

  • Rockin' . Seger rules!

  • Yes, this IS Rock 'n Roll as rRock was meant to be. Seger is the most underrated Rockologist of the last 35 years. Superb... And, yes, you may, Beethoven... you may roll over one more time for big, bad Bob Seger and the Bullet Band. Let it roll...

  • Garth Brooks used this song to write a hit too??

  • a southern-funky baptist preachin' school teacher.....she had a line on somethin' heavy but we couldn't reach her.....we told her that we needed somethin' that would get us goin'.....she pulled out all she had and laid it on the counter showin'... all I had to do was lay my money down and pick it up.....the cops came bustin' in and then we lit out in a pickup truck....BABY GO! We made Loveland pass in somethin' under half an hour. You look just like a commie and you might just be member...GO!

  • that guitar solo is so way cool. ese!

  • Born in denver but did a lot of traveling around after high school.Went to nebraska to work for the rail road. After a trip back to denver every weekend sunday would find us on our way back to the corn fields of nebraska with this song on the 8 track. The good old old old days.

  • are you kidding all that and a can of worms.

  • Comment removed

  • Chuck Berry's influence is just so strong its just indeniable that he is the Original Father Of Rock Guitar. Bob Seager is totally underated for his great original classic songs that he has written. He has a very impressive catalogue of great hits too.

  • @jbsouthpaw2009 i have always said that chuck was the king of rock n roll, presley in my book dont come anywhere close, long live rock n roll!

  • agree with all...is'nt this a rock'n'roll cats meow!...."then we lit out in a pick-up truck"...few write great lines like that anymore....!! not "the greatest version ever", though, checkout Dave Edmunds.....

  • Yes, the original and the greatest version of this classic rock n roll number! ... Vocally and guitarwise this is streets ahead of the imitators ... Bob Seger is one of the great under-appreciated rock and rollers ... I love this music ... what a great way to start the day just hearing this track again!

  • cause you look just like a commie and you might just be a member , lord i miss those days

  • Those days are here, in Washington D.C.

  • Thank God!

  • FTW

  • [+1]

  • get out of denver

  • Sex D::: gs and rock and roll

  • where can you buy this song?

  • This kind of music made my life much greater!

  • seger rocks, i have seen him do this twice

    such good times.

  • How stupid are you people saying it sounds like chuck,,, the 12 bar blues was around long before chuck berry, get a clue

  • The chord progression isn't necessarily what makes it sound like Chuck Berry. It's the lyrics, the inflection of Bob's voice, the harmony line, and the guitar that make it sound like Chuck to me.

  • As someone once said, all of Chuck's children are out there playing his licks.

  • Seger said it ... Rock n Roll Never Forgets

  • Dave Edmunds does a great cover of this song.

  • Wow what a rip off of johnny b goode Good song tho..

  • very cool driving song, ese!

  • chuck berrys johnnny b. good can be heard, nice.

  • This tune and others come from the best era of Seger music......Really liked the Bob Seger System... And if you lookat alot of song on "LIVE BULLET" , They were already recorded and alot better I might add. Ramblin" Gamblin" Man, Heavy Music, Get Out Of denver, and The list goes on......My theory is..."You Can"t Beat An Original."

  • It's a shame that it's hard to find early Seger tunes like Persecution Smith, East Side Story and 2+2=?, not to mention the hits like Ramblin' Gamblin' Man and Heavy Music

  • demographically speakin,

    "rock"

    is a 4 letter word.

    Paul

  • One of my favorite Bob Seger hits.

  • This song, in fact, was not written by Chuck--it's a Seger original. Obviously heavily inspired by Chuck though!

  • Chuck Berry was born in 1926 and with any luck will still be rockin' at 100 years of age.

Bob's version of this song is just over the top 70's party rock that if my speakers weren't so limited, i would move the volume control into ear pain territory.

  • Listen to "Live Bullet" Album, great live songs!

  • WOW!

  • "All of Chuck's children are out there playin' his licks" - Bob Seger

  • like chuck said if its got a backbeat you cant lose it

  • Great guitar work by Jim McCarty on this track. He's also known by his work in Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels (Jenny Take A Ride, Devil With The Blue Dress)....I am currently in a band with him. I'm the luckiest singer in the world.

  • will be fun to play on guitar hero in a few weeks...

  • This and the others!

  • a song about a drug deal gone wrong, a car chase and then they get caught, simple but amiazing... and yes a very very clear chuck berry rip off, but almost all rock nad roll is a clear chuck berry rip off

LONG LIVE CHUCK BERRY THE UNDISPUTED INVENTER OF ROCK AND ROLL

  • I'm not taking ANYTHING away from Chuck, but Ike Turner invented rock and roll. He recorded "Rocket 88" at Sam Phillips' Sun Studios in Memphis in March 1951. The original version of the 12-bar blues song was credited to "Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats", but that band did not actually exist. The song was put together by Ike Turner and his band in rehearsals at the Riverside Hotel in Clarksdale, Mississippi, and recorded by Turner's Kings of Rhythm.

  • No argument here, but there were a lot of other guys around that time like Wynonie Harris and Louis Jordan doing similar stuff that's awfully close to "rock and roll". Lots of cooks who helped make some tasty music!

  • My Buddy Bob Channels Mr. Berry Quite Well, Don't Ya Think????? OH Yeah!!! Score Another One For SEGER!!!!

  • This song rawks! Truly amazing!!! :D

  • I read in Rolling Stone magazine that Detroit has the best rock and roll audiences in the world, shit, I've known that for 10 years.

    Bob Seger

  • Search YouTube for: eddie hot rods denver

  • u can't own E/A/G

  • if thats the case, chuck berry would have to sue everyone, a lot of music sounded like that

  • Did Chuck Berry ever thought of suing?

  • EVRYONE coverd chucks songs and used his sound, he invented rock and roll as its known today and this song isn't a cover but chuck is probaly the most coverd artist of all time all basic rock and roll sounds like chuck berry and alot of chucks own stuff sounds just alike. he has gotta be the best example of a legend in his own time, hes still plays shows, i think hes gotta be at least 80

  • look at the video of him doing "Turn the Page" doesn't he look like Chuck Norris?

  • best version I ever heard of this was by a punk band called The Nobodys. Brilliant!

  • A Chuck Berry knock off!

  • pretty much everything is a chuck berry knock off...thats what happens when your the king

  • The first Bob song I heard and I was sold! Saw him when I was a kid in the 70s then again toward late 80s early 90s. Little bro was going thru serious problems so treated him to Silver Bullet reunion. He came out of the show (along with everyone else!) rockin' and feeling great!

    Thanks for the post.

Thanks Bob for some of the most classic, classic rock ever made!!

  • Blues Traveler does a kick-ass version also

  • I'd love to hear that, if only their version were on here somewhere.

  • Yeah.....THAT SUCKS!!!!

    Cool name

  • @imprettystoned So does Eddie and the Hot Rods, and smokin' live at that.

  • @motownmaniax Another awesome version. Forgot about that one.

  • Eddie and the Hot Rods did an outstanding cover version of this...

  • Great song!! Thank you for posting it!!!!!!

  • Hit me with alittle, I gotta drive.......What Ya say?

  • I saw Bob in St.Paul, MN in 2007 and it was great, but I was disappointed he didn't play Get out of Denver and Come to Poppa. Still a fantastic show!

  • Bob is King!!!! A most underrated song, one of his best.
