I have it VHS. It features some very nice SFX-Work and cool Production Design (as well as an impressive Musical Score by Kentaro Haneda) but the Story is convoluted as hell.

I grew up reading his science fiction novel. "SF magazine" was my Bible in the junior high school age.

I bought this film on VHS when I went to Tokyo in 1984, and a few years ago at CHILLER THEATER convention in Parsippany, NJ on DVD.

Even in Japan they laughed at this film but I found it amusing.

Nakano was no spfx whiz as was Tsuburaya.

Japan's first foray into true motion control spfx.

I counted about 5 different film plot references in this flick.

The only thing I can say about the film was that it was actor Akihito Hirata's final film, he died shortly after it's release.

I just have bad memories of that hack Nakano and how sleazy his work was.

@vawlkee51 I find it strange that nakano was Tsuburaya's apprentice for so many years, yet all he does well are pyrotechnics and makeup.

In my personal opinion he did NOTHING well.

TOHO's golden era died even before Tsuburaya's death in 1970 because Nakano had been pretty much calling the shots for some time - and it showed!

@vawlkee51 well, he did do well in in mekagojira no gyakushu and goja tai mekagojira :/and his work on g84 was quite impressive for its time too :)

@GodzillaXAbudAwwal however, nothing beats tsubaraya. his effects in rodan are impressive even by todays kaiju standards. if he was alive, i think with the current technology, he couldve done something even more impressive than friggin star wars.

Theyre in GHIDORAH THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER, that one of the American astronauts is watching at the space station before Dr. Eiji-Honda meets him. I brought this flick on VHS in 1984 in Tokyo, and bought it on DVD at Chiller Theatre Convention in New Jersey last October. This movie is greatly similar to 2010, which came out November of 1984. SPFX are amazing!
