  • Saw them when I was a kid, did the local dances at the IOOF hall. Somewhere I have a picture of my brother and I with them. Wore out a 45 of this song that the autographed for us.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Simple and evocative of a time in my life not dulled by the onslaught or real life.

  • What can i say except to say thank you, thank you for this clip....

  • This hit by Chad & Jeremy was the 49th #1 song on Billboard's newly formed chart that is now known as the Adult Contemporary charts. It also hit #15 on the Top 40 charts.

  • Hey flamesounds, I understand what you wrote. I agree.

  • yes i remember this song and i sought it out by ear... nobody tlod me it was never discussed. but im sure this was lennon mccarntney,,, soon as i said that , maybe lennon mccartny wanted to be able to do this... but it was good as i say else no its good.

  • Chad looks like Big Rhonda from That 70s Show

  • I was 6 years old.....As I'm old now, I realize this song was a Pre-Vietnam era (1964).

Music artists were authentic, not the micro-wave fake artists of today. Rap, heavy metal, mexican banda music about drug cartels= PLEASE!

  • Do you have any songs from their master piece album Of Cabbages and Kings?

  • Does anyone know what brand mic they are using?

  • @dfpolitowski2 It looks like an Electro-Voice Model-666.

  • @SandozTheMegatherium

right on, that it is. Thanks.

  • The cool things we experienced are not gone forever, as evidenced by even this . . .

Heaven is awaiting all of us who believe, and Heaven is exactly what it's wished in our minds and lives - why else would it be called Heaven? I plan to be one-on-one with all the music and people I never met in this life.

  • @leeleebaby2100 Damn I wish that were true.

  • They were both so cute and dreamy.

  • simply cool.......

  • Why didn't either one rip a solo on the guitar midway thru.

  • @spareaxe .. because they were way too sophisticated as azitis notes in the intro.

  • @11xzxzxz I know, the song is perfect with the two part harmonies!

  • @spareaxe

It wasn't necessary to do. They had already caught you and pulled you in by the second line.

  • my first concert ever, ~ 1964? innocence lost.

  • After living throught this era, I now realize I never had a chance. There was no way I would ever be the same again. There was a price to pay for the ecstacy of those years and the pain and burden of loss has been worth it. I still can't believe I experienced so many cool things and I still can't believe it's gone forever. If it weren't for clips like this I would think that it had all been a dream.

  • Was one of my favorite 60's songs!!! Bring back REAL acoustic beautiful melodies. Thank you Chad and Jeremy!

  • I wonder who would win in a knife fight between Chad & Jeremy and their Brit doppelgangers Peter & Gordon.

  • @wandre9 Well Gordon could DEFINITELY take the willowy Jeremy- his counterpart. However Peter may have some trouble with Chad. Peter is frail and Chad may get the drop.

  • thanks for chad and jeremy, oh how i loe to play their songs on my guitar and sing them i was a born 60's child, annieblu

  • They say that if you can remember the 60's then you really weren't there ..so thank god for youtube and great videos like these..... Shindig was one of the greatest shows of the 60's. Thanks azitis

  • I wish we had more music like this now. at least you can hear the music and the lyrics and you dont have anyone humping the air or dragging anyone around by body parts. This is a beautiful song, by wonderful artists.

  • They knew they were SINGERS, and didn't try to write their own stuff. Most of todays 'artists' are neither singers nor writers, and it shows.

  • Chad And Jeremy's recent work is thankfully on par with this 1964 World Artists label monster classic. They are superb live and still more than hold their own in the studio.

  • omg thank you soooo much for posting this vid,,,,,,,,,,,gosh, happy memories of days long gone bye.

  • Theme song 1965 eight grade dance. Suddenly remember it now. My does time fly.

  • great video....thanks

  • The HARMONY!!!! I LOVE IT! THANKYOU FOR POSTING THIS CLIP.....The songs were so simple and true......their voices are so melodic and pure.......so beautiful!!

  • Great. I suspect they were actually doing this live (TV performances of the day were generally always lip sync work), as this performance of the song has different mix and backup than the hit recording. What show is this from?

  • Be still my heart! I forgot how many great songs they produced.

  • This is really a gorgeous song, done gorgeously. Thanks!

  • yawn

  • It's obvious this guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

  • I like his oversized glasses!

  • brings back memories of my GROUPIE days......

  • Just ordered tix for Fri. 1/23/09 in Cleveland (Winchester Tavern), Now I have to go thru my albums to see if I have any for them to sign (I 'don't' think I have any-F**K!)

  • chad and jeremy, no one else !

  • Hey guys, this is Peter & Gordon not Chad & Jeremy.

  • Uh, take another look. This definitely IS Chad & Jeremy, not Peter & Gordon.

  • Correct - I saw these guys play at McCormick place back in 1965!

  • And the background brass is very interesting, even though this version doesn't have the sparkling harmonies of the Lettermen version, musically this reminds me of several other early 60s hits that incorporate the same background brass.

  • Rap is crap. The only melody you will find in Rap is completely, 100% derivative, which is a nice way of saying stolen. Sorry, lose the ramp discussion, should not even be in the same breath as Chad & Jeremy.

  • Thank you!!!

  • For something to be music it doesn't have to conform with your views. It's a different kind of music, and currently its recorded in more languages around the world than any other genre. These guys will never be remembered like the legends of Hip Hop, so quit being elitist about it. Do yourself a favour and open you mind, listen to Illmatic by Nas, Me Against the World by Tupac or ATLiens by OutKast and then say that again. Lyrically, these Chad & Jeremy are nothing. Yes, pop rap = shit.

  • Okay, this forum went from Chad & Jeremy to the relevance of rap lol????? Wow, just get one comment and the original subject becomes passe. Look to even put rappers at the level of Curtis Mayfield, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, James Taylor and Issac Hayes just to name a few is outright ignorant. There are some decent rappers who can write but lets not get senile(sp).

  • this tune is better than a sedative

  • eaglepoke56...So right! Alot of disco was made by black artist....Good Creative Music.

  • I think if you took a poll you would find that the overwhelming majority of people would agree that Rap isn't music. It's a form of expression that can be recorded and people buy the crap. If you want to hear people rap about their bling, cribs, cars and women with big asses then go waste your money. If you are truly talented then try out for American Idol and sing. I will then buy your music if I think it's good. I don't care if you're skin color is pink with orange stripes.

  • What do you mean you can't tell stories with singing. That's totally insane. Some of the best stories came from the blues, soul and rock. Of course rap isn't all bling but don't put rap as the be all end all. Bob Dylan, Chad & Jermemy, Curtis Mayfield, Carol King, Stevie Wonder just to name a few tell some of the deepest stories though their singing. Oh, the Beatles and Burt Bacharach, who have had their lyrics/stories reinterpreted more than any other rock act in history

  • Im pretty sure i hear nas talking about guns and hos quite often.....the problem is rap doesnt speak to all people like blues, soul and rock does. Lets just say a lot of whites feel alienated too hip-hop and im pretty sure some blacks as well.

  • I have yet to hear a rapper that created a Sgt. Pepper, a Dark Side of the Moon, a Night at the Opera. Rap lyrical? Rap may have lyrics but not lyrical by definition. I've listed to rap since the late 80's: Repetitively banal. Sorry, there is more to songs than a looped sample, unvaried rhythm tracks, a monotonous vocal line absent of melody and variety, over low drum beat blasted through a sub-woofer. As protest or street poetry, I'd say Rap is imitated worldwide, and is influential.

  • Yes, albums like Illmatic by Nas and Me Against the World by 2Pac are on the same level. Musically, they are incomparable. Really, comparision is just pointless because they are so different. But they are just as great. Those albums influenced and changed rock music, the albums i mentioned did the same for rap. And rap is the most lyrical genre bar none. Granted, your description fits with most modern pop rap, but not the whole genre. And no other genre can tell stories like hip hop.

  • Quite a few people have lost alot of respect for rap. An why is attacking rap ignorant. There are quite a few ignorant rappers out there. Lets be real, when lyrics do nothing but degrade, it won't be long before people will attack it. Rap right now is the cocaine of music. There is a demand for it so it will be supplied. As destructive as cocaine is rap is approaching that level. And I strongly disagree that all rappers right their songs. Have you heard of ghostwriting.

  • Good rappers always write their own songs. Why would ghostwriters do that when they're talented enough to make their own songs? Elephantiasis? Besides, your view of hip hop is very ignorant. Sure, there is basic, destructive and stupid rap, but their is brilliant, powerful rap as well. You need to open your mind, mate. If you're game enough, listen to a great rap album, they're not hard to find. I've lost respect for rap, but behind all the stereotypes there's a great, deep genre.

  • RE: the post "umm... correction lol I meant this genre and(good) rap takes alot of skill. [Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Nas, JayZ etc]

NOTE: Sew a turd to a garbage can lid; but forget to use silk threads - that's what rap 'music' is compared to the likes of this.

  • "NOTE: Sew a turd to a garbage can lid; but forget to use silk threads - that's what rap 'music' is compared to the likes of this."

    --Bingo!

  • lyric2go...Sorry little bro, you can't sing. So before you comment on things you don't know about take some voice lessons. You have alot of growing up to do and a long road to travel. I do believe along this road you will understand what is and isn't music. Sorry, their's a big world out there full of music and I have my opinion on what is and isn't.

  • LOL .. I DO have a long road to travel. Do me a favor; When my album comes out, don't buy it. Your friends can buy it, but you don't buy it. lol j/k man. It's all good. Opinions are immunity to being told your wrong and you are most defiantly entitled to yours. ::goes to voice lessons singing Italian aria and Jazz standards busterth has never heard before::

  • umm... correction lol I meant this genre and(good) rap takes alot of skill. [Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Nas, JayZ etc]

  • So right about their music. This garbage today is not music, and I hate it when people refer to rap as music. Rap is nothing but a form of expression for people with no talent. Why don't they destroy rap the way they did disco.

  • That was one of the most ignorant comments ever made on youtube. You are entitled to ur opinion but try to think before you speak. I am a musician. I don't even believe I have a right to say what is and isnt music. Anykind of music that is fairly new or unpopular can be viewed by some as not music but as for these Genres I've heard songs that are just as good as any Pop or Classic hit. So as for you... go suck an egg! j/k but 4real, rap takes alot of (good) skill. Lets see you do it.

  • Okay, can I try? HATE, HATE, HATE! KILL, KILL, BITCHES, BITCHES, HATE, HATE, HATE,

    GRUNT, (

  • "More than usually speakin loudly sayin nothin U confusin me U losin me Ur game is twisted U want me enlisted in ur usary Foolishly, most men join the ranks cluelessly Buffoonishly accept the deception believe the perception Reflection rarely seen across the surface of the lookin glass Walkin the street wonderin who they be lookin past Lookin gassed with them imported designer shades on..
  • ...I find its distressin

    theres never an in-between

    We either niggaz or Kings

    We either bitches or Queens"

Mos Def "Thieves in the night"

And the music behind this rap is just as Poetic. Rap is a world you have yet to discover, but it's cool. Columbus didn't recognize America either.

  • Who told you buffoonishly was a word you prick? Get off this song's comments. Writing lyrics like a fucking text message. Git.

  • ha ha! that's about right!

  • two reasons ; one disco was a lot of fun and two if you go after rap you are labeled as "racist". rap is not the only thing that sucks today .95% of what passes as rock and roll{Nickelback, Godsmack} is just as crappy!!

  • I love disco and its love child, House music. lol And I see what u mean about music being "crappy" but thats how music evolves. You do realize that this is exactly how some baby boom parents felt about early rock and roll and probably how I'll feel about the generic r&b/pop/electro crap my kids will be bombarded with. :)

  • Have loved this song since I was a mere infant, lmao, so glad to hear ir again. Saw the duo on a PBS special years ago, such a flashback. Not that any drugs were involved, was a child as I mentioned.

  • Chad and Jeremy wrote lovely songs and sang them well; but on stage they perform with all the energy of Perry Como on Prozac.

  • This is an exceptrionally gentle, thoughtful, tender song. What are you expecting -- ganngster rap? Their performance is PERFECT for this song, which reached #15 on the charts in 1964.

  • beautiful song!!! notice how their voices almost form another instrument?IT'S CALLED HARMONY!!! Something that sadly no longer exists in music.

  • I first fell in love with Chad and Jeremy on the Dick Van Dyke show. I am only 21 so I was born long after these times, but everything I see of it makes me wish I could have lived it...

  • I know the episode you are speaking of...only I watched it when it originally aired! I love C&J.

  • Wow, no girls in skimpy outfits disgracing themselves, no guys with a bazillion chains around their necks, no flashing of money all through the video. No references to drugs or alcohol. No jumping out into the crowd and fighting. How did we survive...great memories man...thanks.

  • Have you seen any of the other 60's videos with the female dancers disgracing themselves? Just sayin.

  • One of my favorite songs of all time! One of the best harmonies of any group ever! Thank you for posting this classic!

  • any input about downloading their songs? they don't seem to interest most of the mainstream sites preoccupied with rappers...

  • I can remember when I was 12 - 13 years old and Chad & Jeremy and Peter & Gordon songs blasted out of the loud speakers from the Park District swimming pool when I was in Little League playing baseball -- What Memories !!

  • I saw them in concert and had such a crush on Jeremy!

They are both still very good performers and Chad now teaches music at a college in Idaho now.

  • My favorite group from the "British Invasion (except for the Beatles).

  • Thanks for the long..lost memories..makes me FEEL YOUNG again..Beautiful lyrics!

  • C & J played the "Redcoats" on the old Dick Van Dyke Show, a British duo, mobbed by teen girls, who were to play Allen Brady Show. Episode: The Redcoats are Coming. Airdate: Feb. 10 1965

  • THAT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • great video---they will be playing live at the black oak casino in tuolumne california on 3/15/2007. they are still great!

  • i like all their songs. they are really great duo. just like the everly brothers.

  • Saw these guys in New York in the '80s at one of those British Invasion package tours. Chad & Jeremy were the most impressive act on the bill. Excellent.

  • They still are the most impressive. They are timeless.

  • Someone please find a video of "A Summer Song" if at all possible! Thanks!

  • They exist on YouTube

  • This takes me back to a time long forgotten. I Loved these guy! I see they are making tours in the USA. So good to see them again and hear their songs.

  • British invasion lounge lizard music.

I actually have this on vinyl.

Perfect with a Macanudo and a dry martini.

  • Why were these British Invasion men of the 60's so incredibly handsome? The best looking men in the world were from the UK in this era!

  • All British Invasion men weren't so incredibly handsome...Freddie from Freddie and the Dreamers was kind of geeky... :-P

  • Great! These guys are actually STILL touring! More C&J would be great if you have it! Thanks for posting this!

  • Have you got "A Summer Song"?

  • Lovely to see these guys again--thanks.

  • The one on the right was later in Ffolkes, one cool movie.

  • Love this song. Thanks for the upload... didn't know if these guys had any videos.
