My sister who's ten years older than me, show myself an album "Uriah Heep Live", which was announced by license in former Yugoslavia with a two years gap, on 1975. (I will someday find out why so). I was 9. And I was stunned. My childish brain went to other dimension, something never heard before. So as I am writing here, I'm trying to recall what was that then who gave me a stunt. It was harmonics, riffs, nonaldereted music given by fantastic artists.
@zakkturbo And among others in the band Gary Thain stood up, head and shoulders. On 1975. you stood in your room, alone with the record, luckily if you have a decent stereo, and that was it. Whole needed information. Some booklet, no words of songs, some pictures, and music. And your imagination. That was the very much part of our grownup. Many years later, thanks to internet, I found informations about the band, that was missing.
@zakkturbo . Still thinking I was blessed lived in the time with restricted information’s as it was.
Occasionally I visit Gary Thain site, as I’m coming to his grave, very sad and also thrilled that world once had such an artist, an virtuoso. No matter other things in life, your childhood memories prevail, stays with you as you live, and if you lucky enough, you catch from the life the things someone does in the moments of great inspiration. What else a child, a man, could ask.
I agree with the recent coments that the 1973 live version sounds better than the studio version. Absolutely! Gary Thain's bass lines in the closing segment are awesome, as is Lee Kerslake's drumming. The only pity was that the song had to end - they sound as if they could have carried on all night! RIP Gary & David.
I always enjoyed the live version of this song, not that there is nothing wrong with the studio album, its just that the live version, in my opinion, sounds better.
Wow, this is awesome!! I've never heard this song live...have the Demons and Wizards disc. I'm going to see if I can find this on disc, many thanks for the upload!!
@Strangeyouneverknew As a matter of fact it was spring of 73 in Columbus Ohio at the French Field House, they were with the Beach Boys...what a show that was, open air concert and LOUD. one of the best
@Strangeyouneverknew Wonderful stuff. Takes me back to 1973 - a two day road trip from Singapore to Penang in Malaysia. My brother, sister and myself sat in the back of our old Ford with a tape player and ONE cassette tape (remember those?) - you've guessed it - Demons and Wizards. Must have driven our parents crazy but it left an indelible mark on my mind. Sitting here listening to the song I am an 11 year old boy in the back of that car again!!
The very best song ever!Thanx, Uriah Heep!
