  • "I bash DSLR because I hate seeing shitty acting, writing, and editing that looks DECENT because that's easy."

So let me get this straight... you're mad at crappy films because they look good? Who cares!!! If people want to watch them just because they look "pretty"... then fuck it. It should only effect you if you're one of the "brush-holers" who's carer was/is based on owning tools that other's don't have.

  • The "respectability" of film as an art form is up to the viewer to decide. You sound like a elitist stuck on the stubborn dogma of the ancient/inefficient hollywood production model. The DP relies on the director/writer to CREATE a story for them to shoot. It's ALL about creativity. No ideas. No movie. AC's, Gaffers, DI-techs, and DP's are all just brush-holders. When the creator of the original idea can hold his own brush and become self-reliant, films will improve...

  • Just because DP's currently get to be DP's by working their way up, doesn't mean that it's right. DP's should get to be DP's because they have a good eye for composition and lighting. I've heard it called "painting with light" before... and you can't become a good painter by fetching brushes and paint for someone else. You're born with "an eye" or you're not. It sounds like you'r just jealous and spiteful that the "industry" as we know it is coming to it's end.

  • yeah hes kinda right except for that the stuff that people puth on youtube isnt art. its mostly hitler parodies with false subtitles and make up tutorials.....

  • DSLR anyone? Unfortunately it seems to mean the art form is diminished in favor of pure aesthetics but it's a very accurate prediction.

  • @jnberger No, this is just how it begins. People will naturally get bored with pointless "aesthetics" imagery and notice actual creative films again. People are just excited, that's all. But, the imagery is still important. You'll need to be a top-notch DP and Director all in one now if you're looking to break into the industry. People who bash DSLRs are simply people that are now releasing that they're just not good at making films. The tools are here, but not everyone is good with them...

  • @Frontigenics What industry are you talking about? DP's work their way up as ACs and operators. And the tools aren't there. You know the difference between shooting outside with and without about 100k watts worth of lighting? I bash DSLR because I hate seeing shitty acting, writing, and editing that looks DECENT because that's easy. It's not just about creativity, it's about film becoming a respectable artistic medium, like literature. You think film is getting better? I hope not.

  • This is creepy...

  • Coppola is a genius, he predicted the popularity of home made vids ...Youtube right now is one of the most popluar sites on the net coz of people with "small cameras"...the man was 100% right, a real genius.

  • @hardkicka It's pretty obvious that the barrier between movies and movie makers has always been the budget. Same applies to music. You don't have to be a genius to realize that :)

  • @hardkicka Youtube videos are about as far from an art form as it gets. The most popular videos are mostly just accidental home-video garbage. I think Coppola is talking more about home-made films that rival Hollywood level film-making. Which is coming very quickly...

  • OMG! Gotta love Coopola!
