nice railfaning , Just wish it was more than 240p =( Those were some beautiful captures. and LOVE the conversation at the end, if that doesn't make your day, I don't know what would!
Shooting in snow is an actual artform and you nailed it with this footage and stills both! This is one Hell of a video and the stills are amazing! You should be damn proud of a job "WELL DONE" my friend!!! Did any of the shots make a calendar? If not, you definitely got robbed!!! Thanks for sharing and thanks for your dedication & effort! All the best, Walker.
When I traveled west bound ...winter of '64....'Western Star'... the train was stuck in snow-drifts for a couple days in MT... we ran short of groceries, I believe they had to do an extra re-stock along the way.
How could there be any dislikes about this video, all i can say is that there are some pretty sick people out there in this world, Best winter clip ever. SPOT ON !!!!
wow, you seem to like snow lol You should make a trip out to Donner Pass in California or Stevens Pass in Washington. The snow those places get is EPIC. I'm sure you'd capture some amazing video there :)
Awesome video, never seen a train while there was snow on the tracks before... Just a question of interest, how'd you film this? Were you with the camera when it was filming this?
Congratulations for the video! I also shoot great trains in Brazil, but here there is no snow to give beauty to the images. My videos are on youtube too!
I'll never forget this storm. At 5pm on Saturday April 5 it was sunny and 50 degrees in Grand Rapids, MN, the last of a long winter's snow had finally melted in my yard. By 10pm I barely made it home from town through 6" of wet snow in a blinding snow that limited visability to less than 100 feet. I shoveled Sunday morning thinking it was over but got pounded again that afternoon.
Thanks for the great video! I loved it! I grew up on the Northern Pacific/BN mainline (in Hawley MN), so the sounds and sights trains are in my genes! Now in Seattle, so I take the Empire Builder back often. I just added a video response of a clip in the snow W of the Cascade Tunnel. I cheated & reversed the footage! The train was @4 hours late (as we actually broke down in the middle of the 7 mile long tunnel) & the snow looks pristine, even on the trees. I was very lucky there was no wind.
My 2 favorite things, trains & snow. Gotta long that loooong consist. When we get them at area grade crossings, we turn the car off, i hop out (in any weather) & watch and/or take vids. Usually we end up stopping for fast mid-sized or shorter stuff, but every once in a while we get a jumbo like this one.
I don't normally rate vids ever, but this got a 5. No BS, just trains in snow, good stuff man, good stuff.
Great Video! At the 2 minute 30 second frame it almost looks like the locomotive had a railway tie edged in the front "Cow Catcher". Thanks for posting
I Wish We could get that much up here (NH) So I could get some video of CSRX's plow, lol. I have stood out in snowy weather to see a 0-6-0 going over my bridge, the temp was 10, with winds gusting at 30MPH, BRRR 5 stars
Hey Chris, Just wanted to say what a killer video. Bearing the elements just to get a video or photo or two, yeah, no doubt that it's worth it, awesome! I love the comment that the crew and dispatcher made at towards the end of the video. Too cool man!
i'm still waiting for my great snow day, you have some great catches there. I have had crews say that a few times when I was outside railfanning when the temperature was -20 below zero
I love it! That's the only thing I could think of going up north for - shooting trains in the snow. 'Cause I hate cold weather! Thanks for braving the conditions to get those shots.
my father worked for the CNR in northern ontario many years ago and told me they once were in a bad snow storm and couldn't see anything ahead. So they ran their train at the minimum track speed of 30 MPH for almost 80 miles until they could clear the snow off and have it stay off the windshield. Railroading in winter can be a pain but the view can be amazing too while cozy warm in the cab.
Thats one hell of a show. We never get snow like that in the UK.. we get about 4 inches and then the job stops....What were you driving to catch the trains?
Now that is some real snow.. I enjoyed this a lot and I really got a kick out of the dispatcher telling the crew they'd be on somebody's wall calender.
I'll watch out for next year's BNSF color calender to see if any of these snow pics made it on there.
Best rail footage I've seen anywhere, you can't even pay good money to get this kind of footage, I wish I could get out and do some of that, gotta get a good vid camera and now a new still frame since mine was stolen, good job PTI!

WOW!!! Excellent Video!! Looks like you guys got nailed on snow!! Excellent snow shots, and you even got them on 2 SD-60 Oakway leasers!! LOL!! "We got a railfan chasing us" "I bet your going to be on a calendar somewere"!! Hilarous!! Never had that happen before!!
