THe government are slimy bastards and the only way they can start corrupt conflcits is to draft people. They used corruption to make this happen. Drafting people was massively corrupt. It was human rights abuses. I think i would of gone to canada to seek refuge
first of all only about 1/3 of all draftees went to vietnam the others went to other duty stations like texas or georgia.. most vietnam vets
, about 65% were volunteers. the next issue is that draftees as a group make much better soldiers than volunteers because they tend to be more mature, intelligent and better educated. draftees do a better job of representing society at large while volunteers especially in the marines and army are more likely to come from lower socioeconomic groups.
HOW THE HELL DID ALL THE MINORITIES AND POOR WHITES END UP IN THE INFANTRY ON FOOT PATROLS IN NAM ??? the priviliged ,somehow got drafted into the airforce, coastgaurd or some other non combat military service.the draft was anything BUT a random lottery
seems like the government wanted to force capitalism down americans' throats, if it was such a good system then why force people to fight for it if "everyone" agreed that it was good.
Funny how George W. Bush serving in the Texas Air NG is mentioned as a bad thing even though he served and learned to fly jets and very well could've been sent over to Nam. No mention of Biden's numerous deferments though is there?
I will give her credit for posting a pic of Bill and Hillary during the draft dodging segment.
I am glad to see that a part of history, that was so important to me, is such a curiosity to the younger generation. It sounds like she did her homework, but they will never know unless they were there and went through it.
This young lady, like a lot of her generation, need a few less Happy Meals and some
serious PT and some real life experience. Drafted in '71, I was a 91 Bravo. Didn't want to go, but I've always believed in obeying laws, following rules, etc More young people today need to step up to the plate and pay a few dues.
Vietname was ugly, and the draft was statistically weighted against those born later in the year. My brother was not called as hid boirthday 03/19/1953 was not drawn.
When I received my draft notice in 1968, I burned it and immediately went to England. There was no way that I was going to fight in Vietnam. I have never regretted my actions.
Well Done QueenWhoNeverTalks. Great to see a young American researching this topic. We also had the dreaded Lottery down here in Australia. 40% of the Australians that died in Vietnam were draftees or National Servicemen as we would call them. I liked your backing song from Country Joe and the Fish. Here is another statistic for you - of the 59000+ Americans that died in Vietnam - over 11000 were teenagers....Now for any American under 30 years old that should be a very sobering fact.
its a shame no one informed these people that you actualy have a choice wether or not you have to go. technically all they want you to do is show up. so what u do is show up and they get u in a line then they ask the question "step forward if you wish to procede" all you have to do is not step forward. and there you go technically u denied there contract and they can not punish you. but if u decide not to show up u go to jail. trust me i did my resreach ^ ^
You're right, that wasn't such a controversy, and that was rather more justified than, for example, Vietnam. I was trying more to point out the ridiculousness of the Cold War in itself, by using Korea to show how the country was pulled apart because of the U.S. and S.U.

What's the deal with the George W. Bush comment??? Informative video and I enjoyed it, but throwing opinions in a "fact based" film is out of line.

The Korean Was was unpopular. It just stopped after 3 years but it hurt Truman.
