My two favorite animals in the world are gopher snakes and black rat snakes. It doesn't matter to me if they are wild or not they are just beautiful, amazing creatures, I just love snakes.
Hey that's awesome man! What a find! We only have two species of snake here in UK.. Grass and Adder...(I ain't came across neither in the wild) They ain't a patch on the Texas Rat... Very much under rated snake... I'm really impressed by them and their voracious appetite...:)
My Mangrove was $75, but that price varies depending on a lot of factors. I was never bitten by mine but I've heard the effects can include nausea, headache, and dizziness. These would probably only occur with a full envenomation, but it would be wise not to take a bite at all. I always treated mine as though I would treat any venomous snake (meaning I used a hook to transfer it while cleaning its cage).
You are lucky to find snakes near by. It is hard to find them where I live but there are Ring neck snakes, they are very secrative though. I was also wondering how much your Mangrove snake was and how hit bite affected you. I don't own any snakes but I have handeled many agressive ones and think I can handel them. Never been bit by a Gopher (bull snake and only a cople time by racers and coach whips.
Awsome, black rats are hit and miss up here. They pop up when you least expect it. They are still fairly common though. What I mean is, they are hard to go out and actually try to find one. When your not looking is when they show up. For me anyways... Happy herping!
No, and let me tell you, I'd LOVE to see a nice Eastern Chain King, but they have evaded me thus far. I think I spotted one once climbing on the side of an old abandoned house near my dad's, but by the time I came back with a ladder to go up and get it, it had disappared.

Actually, I have yet to see a Black Rat this year, but I turned up a monster Black Racer that I will be posting a video of shortly.

Agreed Jake. This is the only spot that I can consistently go to find them. And even then it's probably less than a 50% chance of them being there.
