  • Ole redneck E.F. got righteously fired up when he called his people the "N" word I love this movie!

  • Duvall is awesome. I wish there was no death so people like him could go on acting forever.

  • I would have visited E.F. congregation. It may have been more exciting to see.

  • Two people didn't take their hats off in church

  • this looks pretty good id like to see the full movie.

  • I am a Pentacostal / Full Gospel / Charismatic Evangelist and have have served in fulltime ministry since 2000 and I believe this movie is one of the most accurate portrayals of what is to be in ministry and the reality of Gods call on a man or womans life. When the Lord calls you its for life!! Thank you Robert Duvall.

  • There are still some people who are devoted to Jesus, although (unfortunate as it is) it is less than it used to be. Jesus is the truth and the ultimate reality.

  • JESUS IS A LIE

  • @westbychris

I don't love this movie because there is something deep calling me, I love it because it's about true humanity and my belief in the fact that every one deserves a second chance.

  • Definitely a magnificant portrayal of the Holiness-Pentecostal church: I love this movie. And this is ne of my favorite scenes in the movie; I wish that the Red Neck had more spots in the movie, other than the tractor scene.

  • I'm an atheist and I love this movie

  • This is my favorite Gospel movie of all time.

  • billy bob where was the duck and weave moves? duck and come back with that uppercut! you might have had a chance!lol

  • You have to have some familiarity w/ Pentacostal/Charismatic culture to see how spot on this movie is. It captures this world perfectly.

  • "I don't need the lawd s help!" lol!!!!! Duvall laid hands on Billy bob. Love it!!!

  • @MaoSuratt911 oh yeah that's real nice.. taken the lords name in vein when talking about religion! you are a piece of work my friend! you know they say hell is a ''dry heat'' so maybe it wont be so bad. haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahaaaahah.

  • This is my favorite Duvall role. I need to buy the DVD.

  • "...you ever seen a preacher hit anybody like that before?..." ROTFLMBO!!! Anybody know where I can find the Movie version of the last (and arguably, most touching) song in the movie, "I'll Fly Away."? The soundtrack version (this song was my main reason for even purchasing the soundtrack on CD) is not the same as the movie version and I'm surprised it's not included on any of these playlists. Wonderful, wonderful movie!!

  • loved to see BBThornton's character get his ass whooped....he needs it in real life

  • The bilble says that the kindgom of heaven suffereth violence but the violent taketh it by force...simply in this movie showing how the enemy tries to come in to stop the work of the Lord..we sometimes have to keep and sustain the work of the ministry by whatever means necessary he the Apostle said when he come back in..beautiful demonstration of the working power of God

  • I just loved this show and Robert Duvall. I'm not Pentacostal -- I'm Southern Baptist, but I'd love to have Robert Duvall as my preacher. Great show, great acting!

By the way, I loved Robert Duvall's performance in the old Route 66 TV series with Martin Milner and George Maharis called BIRDCAGE ON MY FOOT.

    Again, love you Robert Duvall

  • I'm an agnostic... and i found the movie boring. hmm.

  • @featheon probably because the agnostic gets his ass handed to him

  • @eslubin That would suppose that violence was somehow a viable solution to either an intellectual argument or one of faith. No, I simply didn't think the film challenged the problematic assumptions of either the atheist or theist position.

  • @featheon your a douche, keep going to your psyche so he or she can keep telling you what to say.

  • @mdw7122 You'll have to put your argument in different terms. I haven't any idea what point your making here, especially since I'm not a patient of psychotherapy.

  • This scene is a hoot. Robert Duvall certainly put in a masterful performance in this movie, but Billie Bob Thornton's portrayal of the redneck troublemaker was spot on, too. Great movie.

  • I absolutely love this movie. It is one of the few movies that I never get tired of watching.

  • I love the Children singing.i love the singing ! i saw brother Duvall in

Lonsome Dove.he wopped the devil in this one.i Love the old song,

    " I Love To Tell The Story " it's beautiful.You Sang Brother Duvall.Love You.

  • This in my opinion is one of the finest american films ever made Robert Duvall an actor of stunning capabilities financed it himself I think

  • Many Thanks!

  • This is such a wonderful movie. It really shows how the Pentacostal word works.

  • I'm from Britain, and I think this film is about the only secular made film I've seen which actually understands much about Christian faith.

  • @flexdream --- one of the cast members is from Britain. (the young lady who worked at the radio station)

  • If you're not Southern you don't understand this way of life

  • @craspe357 true

  • @craspe357 You maybe right but even if from the north like me you can immerse yourself in southern culture and come closer to understanding it--you can certainly appreciate it as something of great worth --one comment here I know comes from europe and the writer thought it wonderful. Duvall found a southern evangelicsl group which permitted women preachers--very small but authentic and traditional--do you know by any chance the name of this penacostsl group,

  • Whoever developed the plot for this film was spot-on. My forebears produced a number of rural southern preachers, and they were just like this...compassionate, dedicated, and willing to throw a punch (and buddy, they'd win the fight) for the sake of their congregations.

This is an accurate portrayal of the kind of committed dedication that was once part of American religion, but no more.

  • @moproducer "Whoever developed the plot for this film was spot-on." I should point out that the reason the main character E.F. isn't revealing his full name in this scene is that he's a wanted killer, who is arrested and put in jail at the end of the movie. Part of why this movie is so great is that the filmmaker understands that we are ALL of us sinners. THAT is the part of the Christian faith missing from so much modern-day American religion.

  • @NearbyPlovis Growing up in rural Arkansas, we actually had a character like this...a fervent evangelist who was also a felon. Makes me wonder if the screenwriter wasn't looking into my old neighborhood.
