This Is were I still have to waste 33 days of my life, costing to the Swiss society more than 800.- chf a day, doing nothing else than waiting and drinking alcohol... Open your eyes fanboys your dad's army is dead: try to move on!
@arduous100 well armies are useful many more things than just hitting another politician on the head with.. armies provide discipline for people to follow, and build muscular endurance and power. Especially since this army is mandatory for men, everyone gains from the discipline point of view and physical! so stfu and stop being a coward. u should be shot as a traitor..

Each year 44000 Swiss males are reaching 18, amongst them only 24000 are entering the army. Those who may require discipline update mostly escape it easily.
Most of the troops practice their drinking skills, not physical, power or endurance, sport at the army may be true at boot camp or some peculiar troops but not in general.
@arduous100 and going to college doesn't get you to drink more? AS WELL as learning what you must? Okay i agree the less disciplined ones are skipping military service, which is not good. Also, i was just joking if you couldn't see about being shot as a traitor... I am also expressing my free speech now, but lets stop annoying people who want to admire the power of this Air Force.

I am then a citizen using the free speech right, no traitor. For your information, death penalty was abrogated in Swiss Army even for traitors on 22nd of April 1991. I see much people here are not "up to date". Actually the swiss army is testing some of the best jets. The new jet will replace the F5 Tiger. And the FA18 Hornet can also attack ground targets!
The swiss army helicopters are not armed, but they can easily install some.
Of course can an aircraft destroy a tank. But in the battle they are protected by an AA battalion. And of course the AA systems are limited but we have enough to protect switzerland.
Sorry but the swiss air Force has the IR targetvisor pot for theF/A-18 , i knew they us it only for recconmissions but its a ferst step to precison ground attack, the F-5E is only as fighter in use but in the late 80 the F-5E carryet also free fall bombs, like the Hunter, the P-16 had a in build system for unguidet air to ground rockets, swiss vampires practis to drop napalm bombs
@Fruitjoke No idea. Probably even Ueli Maurer does not know it :-) And for the moment it is difficult from the financial point of view for the swiss army to get some new stuff. So also the F5 replacing project is unfortunately frozen. But finally I think also the Eurofighter will be the best solution.
The swiss have very good aircraft, but that can only engage in air to air fights.
They have the best tank in the world, yet which can easily be destroyed by ennemy aircraft.
Their AA systems are limited in numbers and their only helicopters are very old Puma transport helicopters (which emit huge heat radiations, therefore making them vulnerable to attacks, + they are noisy)
and finally, they have no attack helicopters! why? they would be best in a mountainous area like Switzerland...

well you must add, that the swiss air force never officially bought any Air-Ground weapons for their Jets or Heli's.
So they would only be able to attack ground targets with their guns... Kind of risky but will do in the worst case.
Switzerland has a defensive Armee. So we do not need any Air-Ground weapons...
